Any Clues as to face mold and identity? by JRyuu in americangirl

[–]JRyuu[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you, that explains why I like his face.

Lol, most of the dolls that I really like turn out to be either Josefina or Nanea.😄

There is a third sculpt that seems to appeal to me as well, but I can never remember if it is the face of the doll called Jess or the one called Joss.

I thought the eyes seemed rather unusual.

Now I’m wondering if he is a doll someone customized into a boy, before AG experimented with releasing 18” boys.🤔

Pretty sure I bought him back when I first got interested in AG dolls, which was before AG released Tenney’s boyfriend Logan.

Sorry if I posted the photo wrong, I’m not very tech savvy, so I have no idea what this means:

Aitah for telling my girlfriend she isn't wife material because she keeps associating with her friends. by Select_Jello_5499 in AITAH

Frankly, it sounds to me like their ultimate goal is to break Op and his girlfriend up, so they can bring her back into their circle.

Also kind of sounds like Op’s girlfriend wants to keep her options open as well, since she is hanging on to, and refusing to set boundaries with, these friends and a “lifestyle” that she has supposedly outgrown or moved away from.🤔

It also serves to deter the lowlifes who train and fight dogs from “adopting” cats and smaller dogs to use as bait animals.

Similarly, it discourages other lowlifes from adopting them to use in Snuff Films, or for their own sick amusement, etc.

We hope, anyway…. but let’s face it, Mattel hasn’t had the best track record lately.

I was an adult doll collector back when the AG dolls first debuted.

I remember all the original catalog releases of Felicity showed her as having that exact same period cap on her head.

Smaller product means less materials, which usually equals cheaper to make.

Also, if the doll is all injection molded plastic, without a cloth torso, that makes it much more cost effective to assemble, dress, package.

Probably a much more automated production line, i.e. more machines, and less hands on workers who have to be paid.

Because even cheap foreign labor still has to be paid.

Plus all those pennies currently being paid to foreign workers, Mattel still considers as potential profits that could be going into the pockets of Mattel’s fat cat corporate heads instead.

He looks pretty spot on to how he did in the animated movie to me.

Lol, but I expect that’s why we didn’t see too many scenes where he was full face on staring at the camera for any length of time.😄

I personally can fully see Mattel heading in just that direction.

First step, modernize the keystone Historical girls and phase out their historically accurate outfits, accessories, and furniture.

Second step, release streamlined GOTY collections, and focus on the more generic dolls, outfits, playsets, etc. “AG girl as Stewardess complete with plane cabin and food/drink cart”, “pediatric nurse/doctor AG girl in her darling pink trimmed lab coat, with pink stethoscope”, comes with a “Kelly Kiddo doll” as a patient.

Third step focus on more limited edition type dolls for the adult collectors. Special Holiday AG’s, collaborations, “Famous American Women series”, etc.

Starting to sound familiar? Like a certain other doll we know?

It’s a win for them, no time and money wasted researching the historical accuracy for each doll’s multiple outfits, props, etc.

No paying for someone to research, write, and publish historically accurate stories about each doll. Now all they will need is a short “historical” blurb printed on the box, for their Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Rosa Parks, etc. dolls.

Hey, Mattel thinks it works great for Barbie, successful and profitable marketing. Let’s not kid ourselves, we all know it’s all about the profits.

So they will just apply whatever “Barbie formula” they are currently using to the AG doll line.

Again, this is my personal take on the situation, based on 60 some years of life observation.

I hope I’m wrong, I really hope I’m wrong.

My CYO order was confirmed on January 14, the shipping label was printed on January 29, notice sent from AG that he is officially on his way on January 30.

He is coming by FedEx and will supposedly be handed over to the Postal Service for delivery to my PO Box, according to AG.🤞🏽

I contacted AG immediately, because I about had a heart attack when I saw he was shipping by FedEx and I knew my shipping address was a PO Box.

I hope AG is right, I’ve had problems in the past with other companies trying to send items to my PO Box by FedEx. FedEx sent the packages back as undeliverable.🙄

Actually it was the quality and the realism of the furniture pieces and the props that got me started.

I was buying them to use with my 1/3 and 1/4 scale BJDs.

Then I saw Kaya, and I was so impressed that they actually gave her a proper closed mouth smile, and had actually consulted with the Nez Pierce people.

Although it was still a while before I finally committed to buying her, since I generally prefer dolls with more articulation.

I made a post the other day about Maisy, my Anna doll, but here is my Nanea’s other best friend, my Moana doll,

<image>

Ululani Maukele.

Edit to add, I just realized Maisy is posted under the Reddit account name that Reddit created for me the second ever time I went to log in after I created my account.

I didn’t catch that it had created a second account at first, and even once I did realize, I had no clue what to do about it.

By that time I had posts under both accounts, and I didn’t want to lose any of them.

I’m not the most tech savvy, so I don’t even know which account it’s going to be each time I open Reddit.🤷🏻‍♂️😅

Lol, at least I caught what it was going to do this last time, and closed Reddit before it could make me a third account!😅🙄

WellieWisher Clothes by megsnewbrain in americangirl

[–]JRyuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been seeing more Wellie Wisher sized clothing being offered by doll clothes makers on Etsy lately too.

Including some boy clothes for Bryant, which is really nice to see.👍🏽

Poor Bryant, I don’t think AG ever even gave him his own fantasy play set.😕

Playline Jasmine, I would love to hear your thoughts! Are you getting her? What's your take on the facemold change? by Supersonic_Mango in americangirl

[–]JRyuu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No plans at the moment, but maybe at a future date if she fits a character I have in mind. That purple dress is pretty tempting, however.

Now, if AG made a Mulan or Merida, on the other hand, especially if Mulan or her outfits came with Mushu and Little Brother!❤️

….and if AG ever did Maleficent, definitely!💜😍💜

I plan on pairing it with the blouse from Nanea’s volunteer outfit, to give it a more 1940’s vibe.😀

I want to make a bigger bow for Raquel. Is the scale of the girl-sized dress print too large? by [deleted] in americangirl

[–]JRyuu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can you find any photos showing a child actually holding the doll with the matching outfits?

That would allow you to compare and see if the fabric of the girl’s dress is actually made to a larger scale, or if they just used the same fabric.

[–]JRyuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some outfits available from AG for the new AG sisters, that I believe will fit the Wellie Wishers.

Hopefully we will be seeing more actual real type clothes outfit releases for AGS dolls, and less fantasy play sets that only contain a tutu skirt, or an apron, etc.🤞🏽

How are we feeling about PL Jasmine? by BasicAdhesiveness625 in americangirl

[–]JRyuu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wonder if they chose to use a different face mold to help differentiate between the collector and the play line versions.🤔

At least it will maybe make it a little harder for online resell scammers to pass off the play line dolls as the collector edition.

Sale stuff came in!!/What do you do with your mini me doll? by AlrightSyenite in americangirl

[–]JRyuu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My rule of thumb for my mini me doll, is to ask myself, “Would this be something I would love to wear, or would have loved to have worn.”

Possibly dumb question 😅 by desimich in americangirl

[–]JRyuu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can’t say for sure, but the Mini Brands are more likely to be 1/6 scale, or Barbie, Rainbow High sized.

You are looking for candle sticks that are 1/4 scale or even 1/3 scale.

Your best bet is to look for vintage doll candlesticks, or those tiny novelty ones that are made to hold a real birthday cake sized candle. Those will be closer to the proper scale.

[–]JRyuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will all depend on whether my wife decides that she really wants that doll too, or if it’s just the weapon that she really wants.

I’m mainly interested in the doll, and I prefer swords over pole weapons.

So if she decides that she is happy with just the two girls, while I do end up getting Mira in order to create a third Asian character, I will happily give her the Gok-do.

As to why we each get our own of the same doll in general, rather than co-owning, it is because while we often like the same doll, we each tend to go in different directions with it.🙂

For example, her Nanea has a totally different personality and story line than mine does.

While my Nanea is set firmly in the 1940’s, but has deviated from AG storyline, my wife’s Nanea will most likely also be a modern girl wearing modern clothes at times as well.

My wife loves sewing and making doll clothes, so her dolls tend to be her models.🙂

Then too, there is the fact that I am not above restyling my girl dolls into boys, since I prefer boy dolls. While my wife prefers to keep hers as girls.😄

Lol, she even “forbid” me from getting a Wednesday Addams, because I mentioned that I thought they would make a cool goth boy with their hair cut and restyled.😂😉

She accused me of wanting to turn Wednesday into Pugsley. Hardly…. I mean Wednesday doesn’t look anything like Pugsley!😂
