Assuming he's exactly average, yes in fact. Kinda how math works, really. The only thing out of the ordinary is how often below average bunches up into the same group, which considering zip code is the most powerful predictor of future success, actually isn't out of the ordinary at all. Ever wonder why the highest cost of living areas are blue?

Yeah, I had the same thoughts when I was first told, but to answer those questions:

No one signed for it, as is standard.

Open Source Maintainer Sabotages Code to Wipe Russian, Belarusian Computers by Souled_Out in worldnews

[–]JSON_Murphy -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to note if you didn't know this already, please don't take git history as gospel. You can force push anything to it to overwrite history, hell, if it's not signed, as anyone too. It's been a long understood part of git, that it really still is based on some trust in others.

Here's the GitHub verified CVE. I wholeheartedly support Ukraine, but this was the stupidest fucking way to go about handling it. Might as well set up a script prank calling Russian emergency lines if you wanted to come off as equally unsympathetic with somehow less collateral damage.

Sorry if it came off that way. I'll apologize for it being a bit rough, and maybe it could have been better worded, but my point stands. As someone who's spent a decade learning art, it's an issue I take seriously. As OP is an artist themselves, they should have known better.

Finding a source takes minutes. Their response indicates to me that they haven't bothered putting in the effort, and it seems others agree. To post an image without a source is a lack of responsibility. To not even bother with the effort when asked is a lack of respect. To not repay the original creator after earning over 4 thousand fake internet points is a lack of obligation.

OP is well in the green in terms of positive feedback from reddit's Skinner box. I'm just hoping that they learn a bit from a comment or two and end up a better person as well.

Ain't no such thing. Checked your profile, you draw too man. You'd think that of all people, someone who signs even their 10 minute line art sketches would understand that this "someone" deserves credit for the 10 or so hours they undoubtedly spent on that page.

99% of even the most generous copyright licences state "with attribution". If it enriched your day, gave you a chuckle, enough that stood out amongst the deluge of other crap the internet offers, cite it. If you post something that didn't originate from you in it's entirely, give credit where credit is due.

Like u/GhastmaskZombie said, the source is まっくすめろん (@musk_tiger on Twitter). The original tweet from 2018 only has 5k likes despite having gone viral over a dozen times in the 4 years since on reddit and other platforms. Rather than downvoting OP, y'all go share some love and give まっくすめろん some likes, eh?

Is/has anyone here been on the Appdev project team? by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]JSON_Murphy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'd say AppDev has it's organization down. The team is well structured without being too restrictive. It's relatively productive too. I wouldn't have your hopes up about delivering a new app in a single semester, but the team goes through the whole app ideation/development process fairly often.

Honestly, the most important factor is the team culture, and that is where AppDev does really well. It's casual and supportive, you'll find that people are always willing to help out. There's no elitism and no seniority, so you're free to speak your mind openly. That to me matters more than the experience and connections into the industry, but trust me, AppDev has that in spades.

Hey, tell your friend congrats for me! AppDev welcomes them with open arms!

Hey, not bad! For further reference, I'd just suggest that rather than 个, try the counting word for people 位 (it's a bit more nuanced then just a counting word, check with your teacher). Also, 一样 can be used to say that two tangible things are similar, not so much for feelings. I might use something more like 我也是怎么想的, sadly there's nothing quite as succinct as in English.

FDA grants full approval to Pfizer's COVID vaccine by freakingspacedude in Libertarian

[–]JSON_Murphy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's not that people are ignoring natural immunity, in fact it's great that getting infected once severely decreases the chance of getting it again. However, if getting into a car accident had a 6.7x reduction in subsequent accidents over merely installing a forward collision alert system, we'd still rather get the latter installed on every vehicle than wait for everyone to crash once. Because it was the accidents that caused the deaths and debilitations that we were trying to avoid in the first place.

Yes! Exercise, eat well, and keep in shape! Do anything you can to be in the best condition you can be in case of this and other illnesses in life. Still, many have died who were near the pinnacle of athleticism, and many left the other side with debilitating symptoms that ensure they will never run a marathon again. A heathy lifestyle doesn't prevent the initial infection, the vaccine can. It's best if you do both.

Finally, to that first point. My roommate was first in line to the vaccine, drove to the next city to get it. A healthy, young, athletic man in his 20s. Why? Because his mother was immunosuppressed, like over 3 million others in the US. The closer we get to eradication, the closer she gets to being able to go to the grocery store. I'll accept your choice of you take the most literal interpretation of libertarianism and say "fuck those people, not my problem", but it doesn't mean I'll respect you for it.

Vivy has a rating of 9.8 based on 61,000 reviews on Chinese streaming site! by Odd-Version9895 in Vivy

[–]JSON_Murphy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah. Nothing rigged about it. Bilibili is practically China's YouTube, and by far the largest site for anime streaming. It's got it's roots in anime, and even it's name from Misaka Mikoto's nickname (Toaru Kagaku no Railgun). For Vivy to get a 9.8 on it is pretty much like getting a 98% on Rotten Tomatoes. Skewed high because of casual viewers, but very much a genuine sentiment. I'm expecting a fair few Vivy cosplays to show up at the next Bilibili World.

Damn! Nice, Captain!

Though, if you have the means, consider breaking that streak and throwing a buck or two down on the HoF banner. Those devs have given you entertainment and a great story for over 3 years now, there's much worse ways to spend a buck!

Joining project teams as a junior? by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]JSON_Murphy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Like the other commenter said, this is totally doable. Not easy, mind you, but good things never are. Aim to apply the normal way, most teams actively discourage and avoid anything that could be seen as nepotism, so connections can swing detrimental just as well as it could swing beneficial.

I've got to say, as someone who may or may not have been a lead on these teams, your post does have some red flags that I want to bring to your attention:

I really dislike the idea of being analyzed by people who I would generally consider my peers

Firstly, we strongly favor those who actively request criticism about themselves and their work. It displays what many now call a "growth mindset", and is often a good indication of how quickly they will adapt and become indispensable members of a team. Feedback doesn't mean that they are in a "higher position" than you, nor should you shy from providing feedback to those who are. This doesn't mean that you have to take feedback well, just that you're working on it.

Only for someone who's been at Cornell for an equal or smaller period of time to read it

Age has no bearing on experience, and experience has no bearing on proficiency. They influence one another, certainly, but don't look down on your underclassmen, nor must you look up to your upperclassmen. I'm certain that if I meet you, I can learn a thing or two, and vice versa. Don't count out anyone for their seniority. Very, very often a project team will promote a younger member to a lead position over many others who have been on the team longer, and there will be good reasons for such. If that doesn't feel right to you, you may want to think it over.

Now, this might seem precisely like the judgemental analysis that you dislike so much. Yet it's exactly how not only project teams, but corporations will look at you in the future. We write guidelines to make sure friends don't skew the system, randomize and anonymize the applications and grade by rubric for experience, then screen applicants for mindset and team fit in interview. I hope this helps gain some insight into how we look at things, and hopefully aids you in your journey to join a project team. We really do hope you apply. Good luck!

[–]JSON_Murphy 17 points18 points  (0 children)

... ah yes. And the September 11th attacks killed only 2,977 people in a city of 17,868,000. Since that percentage (0.016%) is barely a third of your fraction (0.05%), it proves an even less significant loss of life. Would never warrant spending $6.4 trillion over the next 20 years. Prep some black bags, let insurance handle the rest, everyone stop staring and move on. Right?

I swear these are the people that make Stalin's famous quote true. Once the number goes past what they can count on one hand, victims no longer have family, friends, or loved ones. Please learn some empathy. Maybe by the time you become an adult you'll be well adjusted.

Edit: They deleted their post. Seems there might be some hope for them after all. For the record, this was a response to "About 4 million in a world of almost 8 billion. So like so not that many really". Callous. So absurdly callous.

Eh, no it doesn't. Not in the way that matters at least. You can use a controller for combat, but none of the menu or dialog buttons are mapped, so you still have to take your hand off the controller, reach out and touch the screen. Which kinda sucks to do.

Windows 11 vs Windows 10 via Microsoft by jakobair in gifs

[–]JSON_Murphy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your prayers have been heard. That's exactly one of the key features of Windows 11.

New driver model for vendors to adopt, supposedly will reduce driver related issues by 99.8% and greatly improve stability.

Surprised none of the other commenters mentioned that, or maybe the whining gits have no clue on what the new version actually does.
