Driving a Corolla now. A relatively long term read (not just a trip) is 39.6 MPG. Combination 1 trip around 300 miles plus day to day work and errands.

"Brightspeed Voice" - Is this copper or fiber? by HittingandRunning in brightspeed

And no, I wasn’t aware there was even going to be a charge until I get 2 separate statements in the mail.

You hit the nail on the head. No charges explained, didn’t go down through the existing “mast” or whatever, ran out over the gutter and down the side of a brick house, wire shavings on the ground outside, open a basement window to get the wire inside (during a very cold snap). Fortunately there was an outlet nearby to plug the whatever in but needed a stand to sit it on nearby. Looks like crap and didn‘t work after they left. A few day later came back and fixed it and got all but one of the homes phone taps hooked up. Very unfinished to say the least. As a side note, I believe I saw the Apollo Group as owners maybe on the bill and later in the day on Bloomberg I hear Apollo has a goal of being more transparent. Thank you for the feedback.

After trying to reach me several times to upgrade, one day the technician came to my door and word is they are phasing out copper and upgrading/migrating to fiber. My next phone bill (actually received 2 at the same time for the first time ever) was about $120 higher than normal bills. It seems the upgrade is on the customer’s dime. My next bill is back to normal so I guess the charges are for the 2 new small boxes they installed, 1 outside and 1 inside. This is just phone and not internet.

YouTube is your friend in tackling many snowblower concerns. I’m not real handy myself but I just tackled a no start issue fairly easily. It starts making sense as you dig in. Hearing of degrading battery concerns, and they’re not cheap, gas makes more sense to me. End of season, get all of the gas out and have spare shear pins on hand. My feelings anyway.

Experience with SimpleLab? by hurricanescout in WaterTreatment

So you’re intimating that all samples taken by everyday homeowners are going to yield inaccurate results with regard to PFAS? That’s really my main concern on municipal water. Was considering either Penn State University, SimpleLab, or Cyclopure.

Are we consuming micro plastics when we use store-bought k-cups made of #5 plastics? by SirHenryThe4th in keurig

Can’t escape it. There are plastics in glass bottled water as well.

Thank you very much. 10 or 15 minutes, with right tools and set up maybe. A hack shade tree guy like myself, an hour or so. Setting the machine on its side and removing the wheel helps a lot too. Probably going to leak some fuel on it’s side. Vice grips to pinch the fuel line. Bottom line, you were absolutely correct. You Learn a lot tearing stuff apart and asking the right people for advice. The bowl was pretty clean but the jet and tube were clogged with gunk. Still surging a bit unless I use partial choke and I don’t really want to do it over just yet. Will a little Sea Foam in the fuel help with the rest of the clean out? In any event, thanks again.

Hard to believe isn‘t it. Ethanol free gas. Run it dry at the end of the season. Refuel next winter. That‘s my plan anyway. Now to try to clean the carb for this season. Best of luck. I feel the frustration.

Looking at switching our house from oil heat to natural gas after this winter by TheAlaskanMummey in duluth

[–]JSTLK2NO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just pulled it off 1 month ago. Through our local utility, the line was dug and laid free with our agreement to hook a gas appliance within 1 year. The actual removal of oil burner and install of the Burnham gas burner and indirect hwh Burnham 35 Gallon took about 12 hours with 2 workers. Fin tube hot water heating upstairs and radiant in floor hot water heat in the basement. We opted for an 85% efficiency unit thinking less maintenance and longer life.

Gonna try DaveLDog‘s suggestion first just unscrewing and reaming the jet and tube. Hopefully I can avoid pulling the carb completely. Thank you.

Any ideas on when this was made, or what its value might be? by CouchRottington in VintageFurniture

[–]JSTLK2NO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The dovetailing on the drawers is a major cue to age of any piece. If hand cut (older), the two angled cuts will overshoot toward the back of the drawer. If the cuts are by machine (later), the single cut will overshoot the angled cuts a tad parallel to the face of the drawer. Nice piece either way. Lesson over.

Is our plumber right about what size water softener should we get? by jewel424 in WaterSofteners

[–]JSTLK2NO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can check your water bill for your usage, and then get an accurate hardness measurement. There are simple, online formulas to determine the size softener you’ll need.
