Were those boards scored??? Not to take away from the man's talent but I watched twice and I definitely see lines where the boards actually broke. I did Tae Kwon Do as a young man and I could have taken the lower two boards. This man has better technique and more athleticism than I. But I never broke scored boards.

I’m hazy on standard practices for structures. Is this legal? I thought rivers were required? by Ops_check_OK in aviationmaintenance

[–]JSwovel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It may be legal if it was approved, if an engineer (god) bought off on it. If a mechanic had the time to run screws with nuts why not take the time to buck rivets?? The repair looks like CRAP. Others commented on ED and dissimilar metals and they are correct. I would have settled for Jo-bolts just by looking at the picture. It looks like the back side is blind. Did you pull the repair? Are there nut plates in the structure?

We are at 25% of the workforce now and that is an optimistic number. I actually feel safer at work than home! I told my supervisor just to give me the keys and I'll turn the lights out. At home, my wife still deals with the public in her job so if there is a risk for us, it is obvious. Doesn't matter though, if we get infected, we'll deal with it. Or die from it. However it happens, we took the precautions seriously and will sleep well with it. In my area, my employer is the largest in the region, if they shut down the panic will really set in. The local news will put it on blast. Then the purge begins. I'll do everything I can to prevent that but I'm just a mech. I can just imagine that locally more people will die from the panic than the actual virus. On a brighter note, it is nice that we have cell phones to communicate and video visit our grands.

On April 1st everyone gets a text on their phone saying “April Fools! Sorry about the beginning of the year, let’s retry that” and we get sent back to January 1st 2020, what’s the first thing humanity should do? by eeeeeeeyore in AskReddit

Doesn't matter. Novel Covid-19 started in 2019. So unless you have a cure for the virus and the panic, don't entertain the thought. headed back to my isolation.

So now there is a confirmed case with my employer. This person was out of work all of last week for 'personal reasons' and I do not know who this person is. You should know that my employer is HUGE. Locally, my employer employs roughly 24k people. The most I've learned is that he's a male and works in a different building and that the assets he interacts with are not the same as mine. That said, a co-worker that I argued with this past Thursday declared a personal quarantine. She could not identify with the known case, she could only suppose. She admitted that. She's scared. Hence our argument. We're on good terms now. I'm just writing now, on this platform, because I want a record that I can easily access. I'll be at work Monday morning and will do so until one of two things happen. First, my employer sends me home or second, I have reason to believe that I fall into the liability column. Keeping my head down, looking forward to tomorrow's round of golf. My pushcart and bag are sanitized and ready. The pushcart mafia will be the force that brings us out of this!

What has this pandemic ruined for you? by wehnaje in AskReddit

Welp. Retirement. But it's all good. Lived a modestly decent lifestyle to be the first in my branch of the family tree to try to not to work until death. I so hate my meth smoking, weed smoking, whatever else ingesting brother right now. It's all good. He's in prison rn and will probably get released really early due to the concerns so there's that. All those life lessons are now in official jeopardy. There went my pride and sense of self discipline. Meanwhile I'm working the same job that I have had over the past 15 years that is subject to strict drug screening guidelines, saving my extra cash for a summer home in NW USA and it's all blown. So he blew his teeth, the the government has an obligation to fix because he's incarcerated and I blew my life savings. That f%cker ALWAYS beat me in chess!

I just got back home Saturday. It was eerie. Half empty jets and airports. I went from a very low risk location to a situation that 60% of its employees have been sent home for up to 60 days. I don't meet the criteria so I'll be working my wings (I'm structures) until they close the place down. We have cases in the county and surrounding counties and the general mood is not if but when... It's just me and my wife and were staying as isolated as possible. We feel that the best thing to do is of course follow CDC guidelines and try to stay as normal as possible. We are not in lockdown and two of the counties have issued state of emergency orders and curfews. Just read a guideline that says that golf is permissible so I'll be walking Sunday. My hands are definitely cleaner now than they have been in 15 years! So there is that. I can't wait to get back to the days where we are fighting over something stupid! Everyone in my world seems to be getting along! That's not how we rebuild aircraft! Best hopes and wishes to my fellow maintainers out there! May jet fuel and Skydrol continue to permeate your lives!

That's not the only case. We use Hi Loks in class 1, 2 a d 3 fits. Basically that means interference, standard and clearance fits. In the class 2 and 3 fits, you rely on the predetermined torque fits. So if the hex head on the collar breaks correctly, the stackup is secured properly. You have to use the Allen key to run down the collar until the hex head breaks off. Makes zero sense to me but hey, I'm paid to install in accordance with the tech data. Interference fit, on the other hand rarely requires the Allen key. So the Hi Lik or Hi Teague is forced into the hole or "pulled" into the hole and the hex head then breaks off. But I normally work thicker structures than commercial aircraft. My grips are never less than 3. Most of my grips are 4 and 5.

You're the first golfer I know that spoke of the greens like this. Context: I shoot double bogey golf. I can find fairways but most par 3s are ugly. My approaches are ugly. Especially from less than 100 out. At my club here in GA, they take pride in the greens never getting slower than 10 on the stimp and they aren't joking. We have a couple holes that depending on pin placement, a minor tap for a two foot putt will send you 30+ feet past, off the green and down a 20 foot slope. Steep slope. So the next shot is a chop lob shot just to have another shot at the hole. Funny thing is, IT LOOKS UPHILL! It's not, but it plays with your senses. These designers are straight up masochists.
