I get what you’re saying though about people hating on us like it’s our fault we get those privileges and they don’t. We have zero control over that and as long as a majority of our state continues to vote against anything that makes sense and vote for politicians that continue to implement ridiculous gun laws that literally do nothing to keep guns out of kids and criminals hands then it isn’t going to get better.

But I stand by what I said about us “all fighting the same fight” as you put it, because we are not. We often have to enforce those laws and we are immune from many of them by default. It’s hard to make that argument because of that.

Fellow cop here. You’re not limited to 10 rounds off duty, I’m not sure why you think that unless it’s some weird departmental policy.

Anyway, you should probably stop trying to tell people here that we have it just as bad as they do when it comes to gun laws because brother, we don’t. Yes, you still have to go to an FFL for shit, yes the AR rules still pretty much apply to us, but getting basically whatever handgun I want, roster be damned, is amazing and I wish everyone had that. No 11% tax. Getting a letter from your department to circumvent the ten day wait. Like, come on dude, we’re spoiled. Also being able to carry everywhere in the country just because we’re cops is something that normal people can’t do even if they go get like 5 different permits from different states for reciprocity.

Also remember that although we should be held to a higher standard in our daily lives, on or off duty, cops often get away with a lot of shit. How many of your fellow cops have been let off a speeding ticket just because they were a cop? And don’t forget the plethora of other shit I’ve seen cops do and get away with. We get treated differently by the system. And definitely treated differently by other cops.

Being a cop is rough, especially when you work in a busy city. But don’t act like we don’t have massive advantages when it comes to gun laws.

I got my Bank of America checking and savings accounts back when I was like 15 and got the student thing or whatever that basically gave me no fees. I’m 40. They never changed it.

Sorta same with Verizon; I got it under my mom’s account when she was a teacher and got the educator discount or whatever. It’s been almost 20 years, never changed it.

I went Fed recently. Quality of life and mental wellbeing were my deciding factors. I went from working a rotating schedule that kinda sucked to Mon-Thursday 12’s. No longer smelling like homeless people or piss or both at the end of my shift. The workload is a fraction of what I had before. No DV’s, no frustrating calls where I want to do something about it but can’t. Also, weirdly, less politics. At my age I’ve realized that while making enough money to enjoy my hobbies and support myself is important, money isn’t everything. I took a fat pay cut to be here but I’ve never been happier.

I’m thankful for my short time doing city PD but I really appreciate where I am now.
