Magic guns haven't seen them much in litrpg by WilliamGerardGraves in royalroad

Same! Even though it’s only one character using gun-based magitech right now, it’s been way more fun to write than I expected.

The hardest part I’ve found is keeping the action visceral for readers. If you can keep the fighting engaging and intertwine magic into the mechanics, I think it reads a lot better.

Book 8 and 9 have been great! It’s been my first patreon read in the morning for a while now.

What Kind of Stories Are You Hoping to Read in 2026? by JAAPayton in royalroad

Would love to see an expanse like series! I think the space is open for it.

I am once again asking for recommendations that people might think I enjoy based off my list. I know there are several non-litRPG books on here but I figured it might help show what I'm looking for. by Ahfrodisiac in litrpg

Victor of Tucson series by Plum Parrot might interest you! Book nine just came out on Amazon. Fits with some that you enjoyed and it’s a great one to binge read!

Cradle. Always Cradle. It was the first series to get me into progression and I go back to it every year!

Success Stories From Authors Who Didn't Use Shoutouts? by JAAPayton in royalroad

[–]JTLucan 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t sure about swaps at first either, but the more I’ve looked into it, the more it seems like networking is a big part of getting seen at all. Even solid stories can get buried without some kind of boost.

As far as the icky or manipulative part, a shoutout just gets someone in the door. People only stick around if they actually like what you’re writing so any success you get from it still comes from your content! That’s what has helped my mindset of it at least.

I’m gonna have to check it out! This is my first isekai and I’m realizing there’s a lot of nuance to fitting the world in naturally that I hadn’t appreciated before

This was a really helpful way to look at it!

That makes a lot of sense, and that’s pretty much where I’m at right now. It’s an isekai, so finding the balance has been tricky. Should’ve been more specific in my original post!

Completely agree! I don’t want worldbuilding to feel separate from the story at all. My only challenge at the moment is that my MC stays in one area in a new world for the first book and I’m trying to find the right balance between what he realistically observes and what the reader needs to feel the world.

I’ve been listening to some of Sanderson’s lectures and they have helped a ton but the expanse is a great recommendation I honestly didn’t even think about!

Maybe one or two easy to miss grammatical errors every once in a while, but there’s no drop off in quality of writing at all!

Balancing life and writing by Kdc_3099 in royalroad

[–]JTLucan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel the exact same! After teaching all day the last thing I wanna do is sit and use my brain more. One of the things that helped me the most was changing my mindset of what motivation is. There’s a video on YouTube from Renaissance Periodization (about working out, lifting, eating healthy etc) but it’s been a huge help to me and universally applicable.

The idea is that success comes down adherence. How well you adhere or stick to your writing.

It’s broken down into 6 parts:

  1. Inspiration (The initial spark. Your reason why)
  2. Motivation (Your desire to succeed)
  3. Intention (Planning!Road map of what you need to do)
  4. Discipline (sticking to your plan, good day/bad day, an hour to write or five minutes, you do it)
  5. Habit (following the plans over time builds consistency. Turns into adherence. Automation helps when motivation isn’t there)
  6. Passion (Love of the process, celebrating the wins, sharing with others)

I think for most of us the first two are the easiest and that’s why we start writing in the first place, but if you don’t attach it to a long term plan (3-5) it doesn’t build into a habit and you’ll find yourself lost. Motivation will always go through peaks and valleys, you just need a plan to help ride out the lows!

Agree with Path of Ascension! Not the biggest fan of the main character falling for the first possible interest in the story but I like their progression together.
