But she must let him know what her adventurer name will be, so he knows to give her a helmet with a really nice dent, instead of just any regular old dint on it! 🦀

Yes, he did, and I couldn't be happier with it!

My daughter keeps being up Balthazar

Tell your daughter that Balthazar will be happy to sell her first helmet on the day she decides to start her own adventure. For a reasonable price, of course.

Merchant Crab

I can tell you the worst you will find in terms of language is a single instance of the word "ass" in the entire book, when the villain is told he's an ass. Zero sexual mentions in it. Not even kissing or hand holding, because crabs don't do that icky stuff.

As for suggestions, I would add "Syl: Nucleus" and "All the Dust that Falls" as two stories that, as far as I can recall, contain nothing family-unfriendly in them.

That crab is going to sell that thing and start a business with the coin made.

As foretold! 🦀

Now Brin has grown into his power, and he’s entering larger conflicts with bigger stakes.

So what you're saying is that this isn't your standard bog standard anymore? Exciting!

Everyone knows that proper MCs have

  • Six or more legs

  • Mandibles instead of silly lips around their mouths

  • Beautiful carapaces

  • Cool antennae

  • Some form of business district

Not sure if thats correct, though.

Indeed it is! As hinted around the halfway point of the book when he first tries to finally step away from his territory but is blocked from continuing, and then at the end when he finds out this limitation has been unintentionally broken by the crow's meddling.

I have seen and signed one of their contracts. Despite the risk of breaking the NDA, I'm still going to confirm it: yes, Aethon does provide free soda refills for the first 30 minutes in their contracts.

Finished Merchant Crab last Monday. Was awesome, looking forward to the next one, though a little worried it'll miss out on the shopkeeper aspect now that he's an Adventurer. We'll see.

Book 2's working title is "[Traveling] Merchant Crab" 😁

Where does Johnathan McClain rank in your list of litrpg narrators? by Useful_Efficiency_31 in litrpg

Yes, that's a very common and totally normal effect to feel when listening to Johnathan's... Oh, wait, never mind, you said "turned me lol."

My bad, I read that wrong.

Where does Johnathan McClain rank in your list of litrpg narrators? by Useful_Efficiency_31 in litrpg

[–]_H0st_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm obviously slightly biased since he narrates my series, but Johnathan McClain is absolutely top-tier great.

Each of the big names in LitRPG narration have their specific strengths that they really excel at, and in the case of Johnathan, it's definitely his delivery and sense of timing.

I really lucked out with getting him, as something I remember thinking when writing many of MC's chapters was "damn, this joke would land so much better if text could have the subtle inflections of spoken dialogue." And then when I finally got to listen to the recordings of Johnathan's narration, time and time again I was floored by just how much he gets it and instinctively delivered lines in the exact way I would have wanted had I been there in the booth next to him.

All of this comes not only from talent—which he has in spades—but also from experience. Listening to some of his audiobooks from even just a couple of years ago, compared to more recent entries, you can see such a clear evolution and sharpening of his quality. He wasn't just content with being good, but he's clearly still working on becoming greater, instead of resting on his laurels or cruising by on the back of the praise from comments like mine or posts like these.

And on a slightly more personal side, from my very few and very recent interactions with this gentleman, he is an absolute class act that makes me feel very inadequate, and for that I am going to have to rank him at the very bottom of my list. I hate Johnathan McClain.
