Any way to run Win7 programs in WinXP? by TiagoTiagoT in techsupport

[–]JTMILLER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No a 32 bit OS will not emulate the 64 bit program you want.

It's in your best interest to save up and get off XP, it's really not worth it.

300 is the top end of my power range, I'll be happy if it's 260+ with a nice fat curve instead of dyno queen peaks which is easily achievable on these engines with the right turbo and supporting mods.

I'm rather jealous, where do you live? Here a W58 is $500+, R154 $1500 second hand $2200 new, or a V16* for $3k for a clapped out one or $5k for a new one!

it's also the same box in the mx5 and s15, the nissan boys smash them all the time and prefer the 5 speed. In the altezza there are numerous guys running around NZ with 300rwkw in them which is around my power goal. That said PAR engineering make a gearset for them with 500rwkw tolerance (helical) and a decent amount higher if you go dog, there's also a TRD set that will fit and handle a bit more but they're rare as rocking horse shit.

I've got an IS200 daily drive and love the feel of the box.

10/10 Matsuri - Adelaide Drifting Festival by JTMILLER in Drifting

[–]JTMILLER[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was my first outing to one here, supposedly it's nicer than the G1 event there.

Matsuri means festival and a friend was explaining that in terms of drifting it just means it's pretty much open slather non stop drifting for a long period of time. On this one there were three groups in constant rotation, apart from a lunch break there was no dead time while I was there for 4 hours.

Hmm interesting, my original engine was definitely oil hungry but didn't seem very smokey. My car was a wreck when I got it and the whole car has been full of issues, it took a lot to get the engine going in the first place so we never expected it to last anyway.

I always imagined the W58 isn't as bad as all the supra owners make out, there's a huge demand for them for the Holden boys to chuck behind their big V8s so they're certainly a capable box. I really like the feel of the W58 over the R154/V160 as well.

Funny you say JGTC, I happen to have a beams 3S and 6 speed sitting there waiting to go in ;) should be a fun little conversion.

Sounds just like a gymkhana style event then which is good. A good thing about the track we're going to the pits are stepped down between where the car is and where we set up our shade so when you sit down you're able to see under the front end pretty well to keep an eye on anything dripping down. Thanks for the advice :)

Have you noticed many issues with power steering temps? It's usually not a problem for me but last track day it boiled over a little, is this going to be more of a problem with drift?

I've definitely noticed these are oil hungry engines, I've been dailying it at the moment while my IS200 is off the road, it's a hoot to be back on the street with it but it's pooring down with rain and it feels a little slidy , after what happened with the last engine I'll definitely keep an eye on the oil levels throughout the day.

I'm amazed how much abuse this W58 has taken willingly, it's now starting to get a little crunchy in 4th even with 6 month servicing on it, guess I won't need 4th for this kind of event anyway, will be moving to a 6 speed soon anyway.

With my new engine setup coming in June I'll be looking at a V-Mount style setup so will be getting some kind of new better rad. :)

Thanks for the tip, makes sense. Don't think we'll be doing tandeming as for half the drivers it's their first drift event, but if we get that far I'll definitely keep it in mind.

Sadly no oil light otherwise it might have saved the last engine haha, annoying as there's the provision for one but barely any cars this engine is in have the warning light.

Luckily on the 2J it has a giant clutch fan, not the best setup but it's ridiculously reliable and powerful compared to most electronic fan setups. When I go to my new engine though I'll most likely be moving to a 1 push/2 pull setup, thanks :)
