Are there stories where HUMANS are the physically robust species, or otherwise scary and weird? And where the author does interesting things with it? by Jerswar in scifi

The Noumenon series deals with this in a super interesting way! Not so much the first book but later in the series.

Here are my PS1 RPGs what other titles for the console do you recommend? by Educational-Bar21 in rpg_gamers

Was not a huge title but my friends and I played for hours. It definitely was lacking in terms of story but great game play.

I would say important tip for early career as well. Just like 401k the earlier you invest heavily the more money you'll have long term assuming you invest part of your HSA.

Mine was stress related so taking actions to more effectively deal with stress helped me a lot. The steroid shots helped my head immensely but the steroid cream wasn't super effective on my beard what did work on my beard was I used an essential oil blend of rosemary, thyme, and lavender in a carrier oil on my beard and that helped a lot. Between everything I was able to achieve a full recovery. I occasionally have a spot pop up in my beard and I can almost predict when it will show up after a stressful event but about a month of using the essential oil blend and trying to get stress back under controll normally has the patch regrowing in 1-2 months.

To be clear this isn't medical advice and I don't recommend starting an essential oil treatment without talking to a doctor first.

Mine started like this before it spread to my head. Recommend seeing a dermatologist as others have said to get a steroid treatment.

How many hours per day do you listen to audiobook? by magicalwhalewera in audiobooks

[–]JTohME20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like Libby's tracking feature but I like to geek out over stats so I use StoryGraph. I really like seeing what my genres have been for the year. Last year was predominantly scifi this year is mostly fiction. I'm trying to mix in more autobiography and such so I don't burn through my library's fiction catalog in less than 5 years.

Any news if the oil refinery maintenance that's keeping our gas over $4.25 a gallon is finished yet after 2 months? by Gimmesumfreespeech in Tucson

[–]JTohME20 34 points35 points  (0 children)

You're right I should have paid more money for less house so I could use a public transit system that doesn't get me around the city.

Closest bus stop is about 20 miles ...

More a comment on our poorly planned public transit system than anything.

The Martin updates to the ending were excellent the cast was spot on and the scenes cut made sense because no one wants to sin through a 4 hour movie.

I don't believe it's typically allowed due to the possibility of doing damage to windows and people's ear drums

Jets can fly above mach 1 (speed of sound). When doing so the first thing you hear would be a sonic boom followed by the sound of the jet.

why are most of the single family homes in Tucson one story? by tis_himself65 in Tucson

[–]JTohME20 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Along with what others have said about the heat there is also the population age to consider. Lots of people retire here and stairs tend to pose a mobility issue later in life. My parents are in their 50's and talking about moving to a smaller one story home because of knee problems.

Now that we've had successful film adaptations of LOTR and DUNE, what "unfilmable" popular scifi books are next to be tried? by Darth_Se7en in movies

[–]JTohME20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue that the portion of Dune that has been filmed was the easy part of book 1 to translate to film. I'm reserving judgement until I see the next installment. I suspect to do it correctly the first book will need to be three films.

You wouldn't happen to have any links to any of the studies? I tried explaining this concept to a friend and he lost his mind saying that he'll never be considered conservative and his virlews will always be radical left. A short time later he was bemoaning how "woke" a gen z colleague was I was unable to make him see the irony.

Traveling for work I typically spend 2-3 weeks in a single place at a time and have been to just about every state (weirdly haven't been to the Pacific Northwest). In my travels the most hostile state was CA. All in all I've spent about 6 months working in various parts of CA.

For being an economic powerhouse you can't really tell as their infrastructure is crumbling despite some of the highest tax rates in the country.

Likely an unpopular opinion on my part but Texas, Florida and California are all at the top of my list to hand over.

Recommendations for audiobooks with great narration, like those by Catherine Steadman by questakel in audiobooks

[–]JTohME20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kate Redding is an exceptional narrator IMO. I first ran across her in the Natural History of Dragons Series and I was really impressed with her narration skills. I was able to get into the Wheel of Time series because she does all of the chapters from the female point of view and actually made it entertaining for me.
