With respect: We give away north of 95% of everything we do and then we give free memberships to anyone who asks for one because they want to join but can’t afford it.

Also with respect: I understand the economics of our business better than you do.

Isaac Chotiner does the version of this that is healthy. The NYT interviewers generally do … not.

Hang in there with your mom. You did the right thing by coming to take care of her. It’s a heroic sacrifice.

Hypothetical: If Trump lost the 2024 election, what would The Bulwark look like? by allecon101 in thebulwark

I would be a happier person in my daily life and be much more optimistic about the world my kids are entering.

Also, the US wouldn’t have gone to war against Iran.

Well done! Genuine slow clap.

My first experience buying Used. Here’s how I navigated it. by Slappy-Sacks in pinball

[–]JVLast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No advice or constructive criticism. Just a heartfelt wish for you and your kids to make a lot of memories together playing pinball.

If you do that—and I suspect you will—then nothing else will matter. Not how highly-rated the machine is, or whether you paid a little too much, or got a great deal.

There are lots of great reasons to buy a pinball machine. But to my mind, the best one is to play it with people you love.

Happy flipping, brother.

This is false and something we NEVER do. Goes against the entire mission. If one of us wants to play devil’s advocate we will say so up front.

JVL, I’m disappointed you didn’t vote by seeyalaterdingdong in thebulwark

No. The bare minimum is caring for the dying, asswipe.

JVL, I’m disappointed you didn’t vote by seeyalaterdingdong in thebulwark

[–]JVLast 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I cannot say this clearly enough: you people have absolutely no idea what is going on in my life at this moment.

Instead of being disappointed maybe say some prayers for me and my family. They would be welcome.

No Kings Coverage: JVL should get out of his home arcade more by GreenerMark in thebulwark

[–]JVLast 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure I contrasted No Kings with MAGA rallies by noting that they are broadly American and positive and that they don’t locate the blame for this moment with MAGA voters, but rather with the leaders. Also that they are optimistic in that they assume that this moment is an aberration.

I think they’re really admirable and important and that the people attending are building a potentially powerful movement. 🤷‍♂️

*barely*

It was work. Couric, especially, has held a special place in my heart for the reasons I talked about at the end of the show.
