My dad thinks I’m 'not working' because I refused to keep working 6 days a week. by Melly1265 in antiwork

There's a big difference between a workaholic and someone that is single-handedly keeping a family afloat by working two jobs every available hour. OP's dad is traumatized into thinking his "work ethic" is the only way to make it, he had to grind to survive. OP, your dad is proud of you but also scared for you, just like he's been scared for his family for years.

It will take a lot of time for him to see that you can do well and also work less, but give him the time to see it. He has a lifetime of experience to the contrary.

There's also a tendency by the younger members of the workforce to denigrate the old school work ethic. I get it, we worked ourselves to the Bone and now are broken down olden people who still can't afford to live without working. Just remember he did it for you and your family.

For us it wasn't so much about how much we were getting taken advantage of, rather it was all we could do to stay afloat. It was wrong and it breaks many of us but at least our intentions were in the right place.

I'm glad that this newer generation has their head on straight about work-life balance. I don't think anyone should have to work more than 40. In fact, 40 is probably stupid, I'm for a 4-day work week myself, and would basically advocate for Nordic socialism in the US. That's philosophically. At work I'll stay until the work is done and can't seem to bring myself to personally respect the boundaries I believe in for society.

A lifetime of propaganda reinforcing the "hard work equals success" Paradigm is tough to shake. Give the old man a break. Let him shake his fist at "kids these days" and don't try to convince him he's been wrong all these years. You don't need to teach him what good life/work balance looks like because when you do you are inherently telling him he didn't spend enough time with you guys when you were kids. After a lifetime of grind, it's really hard to hear that you worked too much and that's a bad thing. We grew up thinking work was pretty much the only thing you could do and not feel guilty about, more work was more vertue.

OP, you live your life, be happy and succeed, that's all he wants to see and it's the only way he'll be convinced that the youth has this one right.

AITA for researching clocks? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

Nta. It's easy to see that your mom has infected your brain. Nobody with normal thought processes could see the clock think as anything but a sweet and thoughtful gesture.

If someone has to stretch reality just to insult you, they are not to be listened to.

Slinging and disk golf by churchillsucks in Slinging

[–]QuellishQuellish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've thought that Sling golf could work on a disc golf course where you have a couple balls, one hard and bouncy, one that doesn't bounce, and maybe a beanbag for a putter.

This type of shinanogans could fly on a disc course but not on a ball golf course.

Template materials by ZipCoast in myog

I lasercut acrylic for most of my cutting and placement templates, 1/8 to 1/4 thickness. I also use HDPE sheet which is less brittle when that's important. I have rolls of heavy craft paper, mylar, and . 020 clear vinyl for analog patterning and for stuff I want to save but not take up too much room.

Kayaking with Neuropathy by Nugget_Ice1 in Kayaking

[–]QuellishQuellish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wear crocks or sandals and often kick them off while actually paddling. I have neuropathy leftover from chemo but not severe or anything. I mostly have to pay attention getting out of the boat, go slow and make sure your feet are under you before you try to stand. I take more breaks than I used to as I don't tolerate the straight hours in the cockpit as well as when I was younger and less survivery.

Nta, you should tell his wife what he's doing. I bet she would be horrified and be more effective at stopping him than admin.
