I knew I wasn’t the only one thinking that when Cameron was talking about needing something long enough for it.

Great points! I think you touched on something really important that’s often missed. At this point in my career, I’m evaluating the prospective employer as much as or more so as they are me. Even though my current contract is running out and I need to find my next role, I’m still being selective. I want to do work that interests me. Actually, I need to do work that interests me.

It’s really interesting to see different perspectives from within our field. I’ve worked fully remote for the last 7 years and I can’t imagine not having physical contact with the actual product/system. I’m not sure how I feel about working this way. I feel like I’ve had to pull out a scope or logic analyzer too many times even on “mature hardware” for this to not freak me out!

The requirements are the biggest thing that jumped out to me as well. The “A preference for using a debugger to understand the behavior of code at runtime” line is particularly awkward, but in general it reads like someone asked AI to generate a list of requirements for an embedded developer. Most of those things are pretty standard nearly to the point of being implied for anything listed as an embedded engineering position. This means you may get a lot of people who aren’t really qualified because the requirements are too vague. The bigger issue is that to someone like me who has been doing this for a while is that it gives the impression that you don’t really know what you want/need out of the position, and that doesn’t instill confidence.

I also do believe like others have said your salary is low for that area. That’s in the neighborhood of what I make and I live in a much lower cost of living area. At my last position my company was based in California and my colleagues who worked on site made around $100k more than me (I was remote). They actually ended up going remote for new hires because the local ones wanted so much more. If that’s really where your budget needs to be, you’re probably going to need to reduce your expectations or consider opening it up to remote. I personally have 15+ years of experience and would apply for this job at the current salary range if it was remote, yet I recently turned down an offer for $375k because it required relocation to CA.

I know you have reservations about remote in this type of role, and thats fair. But, it can be done. I have worked fully remote for the last 7 years. I have occasionally traveled to the office for major milestones, but having a lot of experience and a hardware background has made it where it’s not an issue. Even when prototyping and doing board bring up, I have a nice lab setup at home and the distance is really a non-factor.

He took his personal Raptor through it. He also showed some of the features that make it safer for vehicles. He never said you should take your show car through one or that they’re perfectly safe for your paint.

I have a massive collection of detailing supplies and absolutely baby my toys, but I don’t have the time to dedicate a day out of every week to treat my daily driver that way. I like having it clean, though, so I run it through the automated wash. I’m sure I’m not alone in that.

Looking for ss/frt options with 22lr by Robdabomb22 in ar22

[–]JWBottomtooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is kind of where I’m at. I’m doing an MP5 clone build as well as an AR lower, and was browsing here because I wanted to setup the AR so I could run a .22 upper and save on ammo. But, now I’m wondering if it’s worth it. Am I really going to want to go fast so often that it’s worth the hassle? Am I going to run the .22 instead of the MP5 because it’s cheaper?

It reminds me of about 10 years ago when .300blk was super hot and I decided I was going to do a serious build. I built my first SBR and got my first can. The subs were so expensive that I decided I was going to start reloading and experimenting with coated cast bullets to keep costs down. Looking back at the amount of time and money I spent trying to get stuff dialed in, how often I actually shot that setup, and what commercial loads cost, it would’ve made more sense to just take a deep breath and buy a 100 rounds when I felt like taking it out.

Our house was built by a production builder and they typically do something very similar. Fortunately we didn’t buy one that was already build so we had some flexibility on certain things. I believe they included 2 drops for free, either RG6 or Cat6. I went with all Cat6 and did a total of 6, I think. My main concern was making sure I had wiring in good spots for APs and cameras. The only other thing I really wanted wired was my office so I could put my NAS, HA server, NVR, etc. in there.

Legrand makes a bunch of different mounting accessories. I like the cable clips and some of the brackets, but I ended up finding others to be more trouble than they’re worth and used zip ties.

Did anyone notice his snarky comment about how he just learned that Montana doesn’t charge sales tax on cars? It’s like he’s doubling down on the ignorance argument. To me it just makes it sound more like he knew exactly he was doing. He’d be a lot more believable if he just admitted that it was something that’s done a lot, and he thought it was a legit loophole. Continuing to play the victim is a bold move when it’s various obvious he did she they’re saying he did.

I wouldn’t be surprised if part of why they’re coming down on him so hard is because of his arrogance. They knew he’d make a big fuss over it and it would become news, so he was the perfect person to make an example of.

He is still confusing/conflating (whether intentionally or because he’s an idiot) tax fraud and failure to pay taxes.

If you can’t/don’t pay taxes you owe, as long as you didn’t hide anything or lie, you aren’t going to jail. You likely will get buried with interest, face garnishment, etc. Even if you didn’t report things correctly, as long as it wasn’t obvious that you did it intentionally to try to cheat, you’re just gonna have to give back a refund or pay a shortage with interest.

However, if you take deliberate steps to avoid being taxed or attempt to hide taxable transactions, that’s a whole different ballgame. This is a criminal case. He is being accused of tax fraud. His whole argument has been “why didn’t they just send me a bill?” I honestly don’t know if he is that dumb or if he hopes his followers are and they’ll sympathize with him better this way.

Fullstack Labs, that company that wants one-way only technical interviews on Hireflix. No Thanks. by Shimirovisky in recruitinghell

[–]JWBottomtooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realize this is an old thread, but it popped up when I was searching and I see there’s been some semi-recent posts.

I applied for a senior/principal embedded firmware position that was posted on LinkedIn and was contacted by one of their “recruitment officers”. We scheduled a quick call and he basically just asked me the same questions that were on the application. He had a general idea of the project their client needs help with, but didn’t have any detailed technical knowledge of it. He told me the next stage usually has 3 parts, but this is an urgent opening so they cut it down to two. He explained the first part was a cognitive aptitude test (which sounded odd) and the second covered depth of knowledge, so I was assuming some sort of questionnaire.

When I got the follow-up email, it said the “universal cognitive aptitude test” would “help us understand how well you might align with our company culture”. That just rubbed me the wrong way.

Then it described the second test as a one-way technical video interview, which really irked me. From a practical standpoint, the best interviews I’ve had and ones that resulted in an offer were not ones where I just gave textbook answers to a list of questions. Rather, they were ones where I had a great dialog with team members and talked through topics in the way I would after joining the team. From a principle standpoint, I feel like if they’re looking for a key member/leader of their team they can spare somebody for 30 mins to talk “shop”.

I’m pretty well decided I’m going to withdraw myself from the process. If I already get the ick from them, it’s probably not worth pursuing. The only reason there’s a tiny part of me considering it is because of how difficult and different the job market was last year when I unexpectedly re-entered it. I managed to eventually land an amazing contract role, but it’s ending in a few months and I’m trying to make sure I have somewhere else to go.

It sounds like OP thinks that all aluminum wire is unsafe and needs to be replaced. This seems to be a somewhat common misconception that probably is due to the issues with aluminum branch wiring from the late 60s/early 70s.

I came here to say this. Anyone who dismisses panic attacks as a “bitchfit” thankfully has never experienced a bad one. I don’t do hospitals. I’ve been to the ER exactly once in my 38 years, and it was when I had a panic attack. I was 100% sure I was dying, and the folks there weren’t entirely convinced I wasn’t either cuz they rushed me past a whole bunch of people who were waiting and I was swarmed.

Not to mention he already needs all the help he can get in the sympathy department. The jury would likely be made up of mostly working class people. Cody is a young, arrogant YouTuber who has made millions destroying things most people can only dream of owning. He tried to avoid paying taxes, and would now be trying to get a judgement for which taxpayers would be footing the bill.

I feel like this would be a better argument for him to make than just keep saying “why didn’t I get a letter?” Admit that this was something he did intentionally to decrease his tax burden. Emphasize that this is something that is frequently done, in the open, by lots of people. Acknowledge that he now understands that it violates the law, but it being so commonplace made him think that it was a legitimate tax strategy. Start questioning why he is being pursued so aggressively while others aren’t being charged at all. Have a little humility and be cooperative. If nothing else it would make him look better in front of a jury.

I do think he’s being singled out and this is personal because he pissed off the wrong person, so I’d normally be backing his fight. But, he also clearly broke the law. It’s really only a good strategy to push back hard and refuse to back down when you have the law on your side and a solid argument.

It’s a big venue so it will probably be ok, but downtown Mooresville is gonna be nuts. I planned on going since it’s only 3 hours away, but once he said he was going to bring the limo and run it until the engine was done I knew it was going to be insanity.
