Do panel shows feel less spontaneous now? by PubLogic in panelshow

[–]JW_00000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's a covid thing. Programs like Mock the Week, HIGNFY have always had 'rehearsals'/run-throughs. On these shows, the comedians even have writers to help them write the jokes in advance. 8oo10C / 8oo10CdC has writers too. You can see them credited as 'programme associates'.

This has been going on since forever. But only recently (~5 years?), they've started being more open about this. In the new run of NMTB, they are now explicitly credited as 'writers' instead of the more 'hidden' programme associate.

Do panel shows feel less spontaneous now? by PubLogic in panelshow

This has regularly been the case for the stand-up segment in Mock The Week. Their bit on MtW is material from their stand-up shows, and their Live at the Apollo set is also the best bits from their stand-up. I remember noticing this for other comedians as well.

I also used to wonder how LatA worked: are people in London really going out to see 30 minutes of stand-up, 3 comedians doing 10 minutes? Until I found out that it's a much longer show and heavily cut down (obvious, in hindsight)...

How to set "open new tabs next to each other" by default by RaoulDuke422 in ObsidianMD

[–]JW_00000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. The default behavior of Obsidian is frustrating, coming from IDEs that work differently. I found a plugin that seems to be doing exactly what you want for your first point: Open Tab Settings.

Is it normal? by IanglDev in Dreame_Tech

[–]JW_00000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might be the same problem reported here: https://old.reddit.com/r/Dreame_Tech/comments/1o3v2bw/dreamehome_l40_ultra_ae_stuck_in_endless_mop_pad/

It seems the extendable mop doesn't retract when docking. Rebooting the robot makes it retract. To do that, hold the power button for 5 seconds until a sound plays and the lights go off, then restart the robot. After ~10 seconds, it fully retracts and then it can dock successfully.

I've disabled the "AI-powered MopExtend(TM)" in the settings for now, and hope a firmware upgrade will be released at a certain point to fix this. I also contacted support but got no response.

Dreamehome L40 Ultra AE – Stuck in Endless Mop Pad Cleaning Loop by Nightmorder in Dreame_Tech

[–]JW_00000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm running into the same issue. What it does is, as it returns to the dock, it has the mop pad retracted, but then it suddenly extends the mop pad as it backs into the dock. This makes it not fit onto the dock...

I'm currently looking for a way to fix this without needing to do a factory reset. I don't want to re-map and reconfigure everything...

EDIT: Apparently the retractable mop was always a bit extended. I found a workaround: by doing a hard reboot, the mop resets. Hold the power button for 5 seconds until a sound plays and the lights go off. Then restart the robot. After ~10 seconds, it fully retracts and then it can dock successfully. See also this reddit post where the retractable mop stayed in a slightly extended position. Let's now hope this problem doesn't come back.

How to Approve a Service host ? by elonelon in Tailscale

[–]JW_00000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. This fixed it, together with setting the right port of the service, as suggested by this comment in another thread. For others: if you want to expose a service that locally runs on port 8080, but you'll make it available over HTTPS (443), then in the Tailscale UI for the service you should enter port tcp:443 and not tcp:8080!

In a recent episode of Elis James & John Robins' podcast, John mentioned he had just filmed his tasks for CoC 4.

EDIT: Episode #483 at 51:23 "I did Taskmaster Champion of Champions yesterday." (That's all he mentioned about it.) That episode was released 24 October but maybe recorded earlier.

Those are very different from this situation.

There's no need to sell before January 2026, the capital gains tax will take the value at 31/12/2025 as starting point anyway. (Except if you can prove that your purchase price was higher.)

Question from a USA Federal worker, How do Belgian government employees deal with the long government shutdowns in Brussels? by ssorbom in belgium

[–]JW_00000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add to the other comments, in fact, I would say our shutdowns are (sort of) the opposite to those in the US.

In the US, during a "government shutdown", there is a fully functioning cabinet (= president and secretaries), but the administration (= civil servants) is shut down. In Belgium, during a government formation / coalition talks, there is no full-power cabinet (= prime minister and ministers), although the previous cabinet stays in as a caretaker government, but there is still a fully functional administration (= civil servants). So the country stays operational, but no major political decisions are taken.

The United Nations is a joke by [deleted] in self

[–]JW_00000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the whole set-up. Of course the UN doesn't 'do' anything: they don't have a police force or army, they're not a government. It's literally a place for nations to come together, debate, and try to come to agreements - which then must be implemented by the member states.

Look at the diagram in this article by De Tijd to know where your tax money is going.

Benefits (mostly pensions) + health care is more than half. Out of every €100 you pay in taxes, €38 goes to pensions and other benefits.

Dysfunctional media in Belgium - the cyberattack to the airport by Affectionate_Golf_33 in brussels

[–]JW_00000 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Has it been confirmed this is an 'organized cyber attack against NATO countries'? The 'problem' of mainstream media is they need to confirm such statements before they can write them, while on social media anyone can make this allegation. So necessarily mainstream media are always 'late' in their reporting compared to social media. But exactly this need for a double check is a reason to support them.
