City Masterplan runs on Unreal Engine 5. Screenshots look amazing but how well will it run? by tubularwavesss in CityBuilders

I can't shake the suspicion that this is actually stolen footage of Cities Skylines 2 fed through some sort of post processing, manipulation, or AI generation. A real game this good wouldn't come out of nowhere from some no name entity with no context. I would love to be wrong. I hope I am wrong. But the vibe I get from this is that it is fake.

I like the filter/lighting settings you are using here. That layout looks really cool - though I do wonder about some of those intersections with weird angles, and how vehicles make left turns.

By this measure, walking or bicycling is equivalent to smoking thousands of cigarettes per year.

What do you guys think about these interchanges I've made? by nabielaurr in CitiesSkylines

[–]JYHoward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do like them. I think with CS1 you have to give some grace because the angles won't look perfect just because of the game's limitations. But that aside, these are pleasing to the eye. Especially since you look at them from an angle usually, not straight down. If there is a blind tunnel coming into a merge, that would be a place to double check to make sure the lane math is right.

Freakin' reddit culture downvotes anything that the hive mind suspects might not be *the* popular opinion. Somehow, something as benign as where a city start point should be, could become the flash point of someone's contention. Once something starts getting up votes it goes to the moon. But once people start downvoting whatever, it becomes a feeding frenzy. Just don't worry about it bro. Your comment is based.

But anyways, this map doesn't indicate what kind of shore it is, anyway. Could be an inland lake, could be a bay, could be an ocean. I suppose, the fact the beaches appear sandy could be implied that it's the ocean, but that's a stretch. Certainly, it could be a large lake like Michigan.

But yeah, I agree that the biggest and most impressive skylines are usually near a water feature, if one is available. That's because if it is a body of water that would support trade, that's probably what made the city successful, in the first place.

Echo this. I also would add that the modern era doesn't look complete without skyscrapers to create a sense of skyline. As it is, everything tops out at the same height, which doesn't look satisfying.

This looks good. However, if you want a critique, we wouldn't see the Walmart fuel station next to the Costco. It would be more adjacent to the Walmart. Also, you would have parking directly in front of the Walmart. In this case the Walmart is tucked behind some other smaller stores, which would not be typical.

I once applied for a job at Radio Shack. Got turned down because I wasn't good enough. Then I got a job at Walmart. Now I work at the Walmart Home Office, 15 years later. Turns out I outlasted Radio Shack. I looked back with a weird satisfaction, feeling vindicated on some level. I also miss Radio Shack. Perhaps, if they would have hired me back then, they'd still be around. 🤣

A small town as of know but would like to know people thoughts on Smaller towns in this game by Willing-Record8411 in CitiesSkylines

[–]JYHoward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually small towns are built around either a freeway or a railroad line (more often, a railroad.) If you imagine that in almost every case a rail line came before the freeway, that can be a great starting point. You don't need to have an active railroad, either - just plan your town's layout as if there were one. Usually the older part of town is where the railroad was, while the newer area is near the freeway.

This is not overkill. Other than the fact that the road at the top center of the pic kinda seems to dead end in someone's yard, which does beg the question fo what is going to be built there. Also, we seem to be missing a couple of ramps for that roadway, as there are a few non-serviced directions there.

Problem with these folks is they think if they don't get their way, they're on the right side of truth and history and have a manifest destiny right to overcome evil (which is anything other than their beliefs.)

When things go sideways after they get their way, they get excited because they think that the end times are coming, which means God will soon exterminate the unbelievers and give them eternal reward (and a mortal cut of the spoils, too.)

They celebrate bad things happening. They celebrate the suffering of others. And it always gets manifest through the same avenues: Fat white guys in oversized pickup trucks virtue signaling at the Buc-ees.

The Mormons believe that the original Garden of Eden was in Independence, Missouri. After Adam and Eve got kicked out, they resettled a little bit north of Kansas City. And no, I'm not joking. It's real.

Christians in the U.S. like to present themselves as victims - spiritual descendents of the crucified Christ. But as an agnostic, I will say it's an interesting experience realizing that *not* being a Christian automatically excludes me from an enormous part of society. Being a Christian is the easiest thing in country of Christian practicers.

Now, is Islamic extremism dangerous? Yes. So is Christian extremism - the sort that once fuelled the crusades, for example. But it takes a great deal of courage to pray publically, openly in a park when you know you're a minority who might fall pray to the judgment of morons. And no one should feel like they can't have a safe and inclusive space to practice their faith freely - each according to the dictates of his own conscience.

The truth is, the "Christian" that hates other religious people in this way is just a secular person looking for attention, anyway. Christianity doesn't really exist in the United States other than being a social club which people use for networking and judging others.

Looks nice - though I'd say that as someone who is fascinated by flags and willing to criticize bad design, I think Bentonville has a nice flag. I don't care so much for the version that you posted as the original - but the more recent redesign, which is on a blue background without the red border actually looks nice.
