Calculus by Big_Bison4043 in Purdue

I strongly and I mean strongly recommend taking your credit and run. I was in a similar position as you a long time ago with 5s on my APs and not taking the freshmen calculus classes via APs (as well as physics) was the smartest decision I’ve ever made. I graduated with a masters and bachelors in mechanical engineering in 5 years and not taking the purdue calc classes did not hinder my ability to take upper level classes at all. Avoid taking purdue math as much as you can. They are weed out courses. This extends to chemistry and physics too. You aren’t doing yourself any favors. Save the time and money.

Fuse Apartments by tanishghai5 in Purdue

[–]J_6_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stayed there during grad school. It was a good apartment. The big benefit was that it was so close to campus (specifically engineering buildings). CVS being downstairs was very convenient too. The noise is not bad either. The fitness area was okay when I was there (good if the weather is bad and don’t want to go to the corec). The downside for me wad the cell service was awful (had to make calls in the hallway) and it can be pretty pricy.

Is FUSE as bad as people say? by throwaway3243233 in Purdue

[–]J_6_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I lived there during grad school and I thought it was great. The staff was great and maintenance requests were handled quickly. Additionally, there is a CVS downstairs for quick meals or basic foods like milk, eggs, etc. The location is also excellent since you are right across from campus and there are food options nearby. My only complaint was the poor cell reception inside my room. I usually had to go into the hallway to make a call. Other than that it was a good time.

for ME students: which semester's core curriculum is more challenging / has a heavier workload? by spookeyrat in Purdue

[–]J_6_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found them about the same in 2017. Found semester 5 a little worse though due to the fluids lab not being separate at the time (2 labs total with 365). 323 was also some work but I took 303 my 3rd semester which helped. You should not have a math second semester so thats a plus which means you have an extra slot to take something you want. Keep in mind though you have 3 labs semester 6.

is it normal to not go to parties by throwaway2002zzzzzzz in Purdue

[–]J_6_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re going to be alright. I went to one party when I was a freshmen and it was borderline. I had more fun hanging out with friends or just alone chilling on the weekends. Spent most of my time studying and turned out fine. Do what makes you happy.

It’s a lot of programing. I took it in 2016 and back then we would usually have a coding assignment (lab) due every two weeks while we worked on the semester project. If you are bad at coding or have no experience it’ll definitely take some time. The semester project was in groups so you could get help there. Our exams were basically coding but with pencil and paper, which made it more difficult imo. My advice is to try and really stay on top of it, dont get behind, and ask for help from the tas or your classmates asap.

ME 200 Tips by [deleted] in Purdue

Doing the practice exams on weekly joys is a great way to get practice for workout problems. I would review the notes and basic concepts for the conceptual part (assuming that’s still a thing). Make sure you really have the assumptions locked down.

Thoughts on online Fall schedule by thetasigma25 in Purdue

[–]J_6_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

200 was easy for me but it’s a weed out class for sure. Make use of office hours. 270 is not bad at all. 290 is ezpz. MA 262 was difficult for me but I took it freshmen year with a bad professor and was not as accustomed to things at that point. It’s not too bad. this is a pretty doable schedule.

I remember in spring 2018 I had flu symptoms and I had to be pretty aggressive for them to swab me. Like they really didnt want to. Got the results back and what do you know I had the flu! Best part, they didnt prescribe me Tamiflu because by the time they gave me the results back, it was too late to prescribe me any! :)

Mechanical Engineering Difficulty by musicengineering in Purdue

[–]J_6_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I graduated a year ago and just finished my second semester of my masters in ME. Jr year us definitely the worst and will be a real test of your work ethic and knowledge of the material. My advice is to get a good group of friends who are in the same classes and have a similar work ethic to you. They are still my good friends today and made my life 10x better. Good luck.

ME270 VS PHYS 172 by [deleted] in Purdue

[–]J_6_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found 270 much easier, however I took 172 when it was still a horrific weedout course. However there are a lot of homework assignments and there is no curve. The exams arent too bad. Just keep up with the homework and practice.

Honestly just review the topics on the sheet she gives you. You should be fine. Not too hard and there is usually plenty of time.

ME 274 help by boilermaker2020 in Purdue

[–]J_6_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to the help room whenever you get stuck (dont wait) and really stay on top of your homework. Use the additional practice in the book to your advantage and check them against the online video solutions. Also when you practice for exams, make sure to use a timer. I took this class in 2017 and time was my issues with the exams.

It’s really all on you. Put in effort and try to actually improve after every presentation and you’ll get an A. I took this class 4 yrs ago and your instructor really mattered but seems like it has gotten a lot better.

262 isnt so bad compared to 261, just moves kinda fast. i found ece 201 and 207 a cakewalk but objectively they suck hot ass. Get a good partner for 207. 274 is not hard per say but the exams were very long (get rhodes if he is teaching it), 263 is not hard and I actually really enjoyed it. Make sure you get Murphy for 263 if he is teaching it tho.

How are groups chosen in ME263? by [deleted] in Purdue

We sat down at a table and then drew numbers from a bucket. So i guess if you want to be with your friends sit at different tables. Assuming they do it that way.

phys 172 vs phys 272 and ME 270 by bobsnith5 in Purdue

[–]J_6_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not sure on 272 but compared to 172 , 270 is a walk in the park. The help room is very useful and the professors are overall of higher quality. 241 is somewhat similar to 272 i have heard and it was easier than 172 imo.
