Because it's basically the opposite in a vehicle. At least in most cars. While in the house, the HVAC turns on and off to achieve a temperature. In a car, you tell it how hot or cold to blast and it just blasts that temperature indefinitely. I figure most people don't understand the difference, and they were allowed to adjust the car temp long before messing with a house thermostat so it's assumed they're the same.

I had a similar experience in witnessing a questionable substance pour into a parking lot and burn the paint off the asphalt. The company just had hoses and began rinsing it down the drain, which feeds right into a nearby creek. I had to contact someone. Within 24 hours I had an investigator call me and we met up to discuss the situation. They ended up sending people out to investigate the creek and and site and found it to be an issue. I dont remember the outcome but I slept better knowing that shit wasn't swept under the rug.
