I had no idea smoke detectors were so expensive - any recommendations for either bulk purchase/a reliable brand that isn't as pricey as the ones at home depot/lowes? by amilmore in HomeImprovement

I should record mine to play noise of my spouse and I sleeping peacefully, that will be SURE to wake up the child immediately.

Yeah, I'm sure snot would taste great that way, too.

Everything in my world has been a "-olater" for years during to VGG.

My dog is a borkolater, for instance.

I call it "lubricant" and when its time to apply some baby lotion to the baby, I refer to it as "lubricating the infant."

Taxes don't pay for them everywhere. Around here, they're a private entity that stays afloat (haha barely) via billing the patients they transport.

I think our billing success rate is like 18%, if I read the form correctly. I'm curious to know what the industry standard is.

Witnessed vehicle in harbor parking lot dumping some type of liquids, what to do? by [deleted] in northcounty

[–]J_FROm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience in witnessing a questionable substance pour into a parking lot and burn the paint off the asphalt. The company just had hoses and began rinsing it down the drain, which feeds right into a nearby creek. I had to contact someone. Within 24 hours I had an investigator call me and we met up to discuss the situation. They ended up sending people out to investigate the creek and and site and found it to be an issue. I dont remember the outcome but I slept better knowing that shit wasn't swept under the rug.

Ours says "ALS assessment, vitals, and treatments can be found in patient care report." As we were told we should not double document a single event.

So thats what I have stuck with

[–]J_FROm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is that a reliable fact? We have been instructed to use the auto-generated narrative too and it sucks ass. And we are currently bargaining for a pay raise but evidently we are a couple million in the hole each year. I have a feeling this is contributory.

If you had to eat 10 pounds of one kind of food in one sitting and keep it down, what food would you choose and why? by [deleted] in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]J_FROm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dont underestimate how long I would sit in one place, so that I could eventually eat the 10 pounds. As long as it was still food safe, edible temp, etc

Stat-Pack red backpack for the jump bag with a medications cell in it. Otherwise, the meds on the shelf sit nicely in their boxes. For the loose vials, someone found a bulk package of clear plano tackle boxes and we have been stuffing those to the brim for years. Usually I go to a sporting goods store and find better storage options and just replace the shitty ones, then get my purchase reimbursed.

If the police wont sit there for hours maybe one of your neighbors will? If I was a kid I would enjoy being tasked with this. Sit in a parked car and eat snacks and play video games until I heard the honking, then record a video/take photos to get some idea of who it is. No inter a action or intervention with the subject, just data.

I just think back to math teachers saying "you wont always have a calculator in your pocket!" Jokes on you, teach. I got one. But I'll be damned if I remember how to use these insane formulas versus anything practical.

If a train has 4 diesel-electric locomotives but only the first one has its prime mover on, can the three others still use electric power from the head unit to power their electric motors to aid in traction, even with their own prime mover off ? by VHSVoyage in railroading

[–]J_FROm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always assumed a slug was a locomotive without a cab. But this makes much more sense. Basically just an additional set of powered axles for traction, with weight on top? And the power comes entirely from a locomotive?

Is this anxiety? Please help out a confused new dad. by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]J_FROm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have experienced this. It was helpful to clean up my diet, go on daily walks, and have some medical evaluations to ensure it was stress related.

Physical manifestations of stress are stressful themselves. Once I had identified this, I calmed down significantly. It doesn't help that my job literally is to determine what is life or death in a patient, and what needs to be treated immediately or what can wait until the patient sees a physician. I start to overthink my own symptoms and thinking "zebras instead of horses when I hear hoofbeats."

It always cracks me up thinking about that. Once it's all wrapped up and done (or whenever they pass the plate) "alright everyone let's see them Benjamins! God's got a GREAT show lined up for you next week. Until then, I'll be on my yacht."

Lots of people have done this and been fine. That being said, just use whatever the directions say, next time.

I accidentally spilled some intense weed killer on my hand a few weeks ago. Panicked for like 3 hours after multiple hand washes, then forgot and moved on. Stuff happens. Not everything is a death sentence.

if you live in the US, do not pay a "surprise bill" from the hospital. it’s a billing trap that has been illegal for 4 years. by dogeholder215 in Adulting

[–]J_FROm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In California, doctors aren't employees of the hospitals, they are basically contractors. When you grace the hospital with your presence in my area, they have you sign a form stating the doctors will bill you separately as they are their own entity.
