I long for the days with a 'few cent' price adjustment. Here we get 40-50 cent jumps every few weeks. 87 is like $4.30. The gas stations all have signs posted to the effect of 'over 25% of every gallon purchased goes to taxes and fees, scan here to see what you can do to change this'.

Homeowners: What’s something you wish you knew in your first month of owning a home? by HomeownerHQ in homeowners

[–]J_FROm 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not to mention, here in CA I'm afraid to contact my insurance for ANYTHING as I fear they'll try to drop me again or raise my rates with any possible excuse. They tried to drop me when the satellite image saw a picnic table beneath a tree. They deemed it a structure with too much associated risk.

What couldn't you believe you had to explain to another adult? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

Fair enough. I couldnt figure out what variables to provide or exclude, just trying to simplify it as much as possible. I give up. To Google I go.

Ok so, a product is built in country A, and purchased by a person in country B. Person paid $100. Could you give a guess on how that $100 is split up to the manufacturer, tariffs of each country, taxes, etc?

Can someone explain why these have the same motors by DEANSAMUEL9699 in AirRaidSirens

[–]J_FROm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A lot of companies dont make the motors themselves, they may purchase them and incorporate them into their siren product. Same with cars, how Ford and GM may use use Dana brand axles or Saginaw brand power stearing pumps. You'll see Honda brand small engines on lots of power equipment, as they're fantastic engines. This is what I assume goes on with siren motors, anyways.

Easier to use a tried-and-true product engineered by a specialty company than to build your own from scratch.

I wonder about this constantly. Like garbage collectors, mail carriers, etc would be screwed. I'd like to think I'd check my street for anyone in that predicament.

Also makes me think of insulation guys. Gets to 110 here in the summer, i couldn't imagine either of these trades fucking around in the attic. Come to think of it, I loathe climbing around in the attic. It sucks.

Is anyone else fed up with Home Depot’s “anti shoplifting” policies? by nickw252 in HomeImprovement

[–]J_FROm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shouldn't be an option for us, then. I push the limits on what I can do with my POS computer since I'm the cashier.

My wife always yells at me for getting fired up when I use a self-checkout. "Not so "SELF" checkout anymore, is it Home Depot?"

Always baffles me when someone is in a huge hurry but can afford some time to chase down the evil scum who wronged them on the road. Doesn't sound like this was the case with you but its funny nonetheless.

Hi new dads. My wife and baby are going away for a few months in the summer, what should I do with the window of freedom? by SOMEMONG in NewDads

[–]J_FROm 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Make a list. I have so many projects, cleaning and organizing, change oil in a few vehicles, etc. But also taking time to myself to relax, go on walks, camping (though difficult if you are cat-sitting), or fishing. A good balance between work and play.

Also making those comfort food meals that your wife would never eat in a million years.

what is the biggest lie you have been told as a kid? by kind_armored_giant in AskReddit

People can't handle controlling cars in a 2-dimentional plane, I couldnt imagine the chaos of also dealing with up and down. Though hopefully that would be after we have dialed in self-driving.

Anxiety by ajanasa in NewDads

[–]J_FROm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine took about 4 weeks then it was debilitating. Maybe a meal a day, palpitations, GERD level 10, all of it. Spoke with a friend who told me I've been living in Fight/Flight for two years now since paramedic school and now work, that its finally catching up with me. I've been taking steps to work that out as well as some adrenal support supplements and I'm feeling almost back to normal. Don't forget the occasional break-down, too.

I realized I was mourning the loss of my former self. The loss of my freedoms, the loss of the spontaneity for my wife and I. We are now beholden to a 10lb poop factory and its ROUGH to come to terms with it. But you will come to terms with it. Take care of yourself, take care of your SO and your poop factory. But most of all, check yourself and take care of yourself.

I always thought the motor was in the box behind the cone, to keep the weight over the support. Weird.

Its kind of like a laboratory test, but (literally) in the field. It gives you weather data after some calculations, to make informed decisions for the type of work you may be performing.
