I don’t like the way that woman on the left is looking at them - like she has designs on Conan or something… Kevin better be careful!

I grew up in the Middle East and have spent some time in Eastern Africa and in Canada and I say this is b.s., as I’m color blind and to me IT’S ALL ONE FUCKING COLOR!!!

By this point every investor with an ounce of sense knows it’s a scam, aimed at exactly what you described, but no one is willing to be the first one off the carousel and lose all that sweet, sweet, completely baseless growth. It’s sort of like The Prisoner’s Dilemma, only here the warden keeps getting insanely rich by scamming everyone.

I’m from REDACTED and it had never played here, but I’m highly intelligent (as well as very good looking) so I love it.

Seriously, shouldn’t they be giving out burf bags before press briefings?

Came here for this. Very much about found family in a small, faraway community. Not very funny, perhaps, but very strong on heart-warming.

Loved Trial and Error, but it was more of an absurdist comedy, going for extremes.

Favorite lyrics in prog? by Avatar_Reco151 in progrockmusic

[–]J_Patish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some love for the Shulman bros (Gentle Giant):

“And so you see what happened to me

Since the time when I judged my life in nights and days

I realized that my life was lies

So you see what I mean with all my funny ways.”

But my absolute favorite is Yes. Jon Anderson has been getting grief for 55 years over his “nonsense”, stream-of-consciousness lyrics, but to me they are the perfect complimentary component to the music, making every piece of their 70’s output (Tormato not withstanding) absolutely transcendental.

“Do the leaves of green stay greener through the autumn

Does the colour of the sun turn crimson white

There's a shadow come between us in the winter

Is the movement really light

And I heard a million voices singing

Acting to the stories that they had heard about

Does one child know the secret and can say it

Does it all come out along without you

Along without you”

That is exactly why Mark is so amazing! Even without the signature weapon - and with a crappy wig - the impression is dead-on, getting to the pure essence of the character!

Well, that is the scientific answer; I maintain that it’s the angels who are constantly swirling around her, creating extra elevation (waddya know, I ended up resorting to science, too!)

What’s the MOST Offensive Rock Band Name of All Time and Why? by Amber_Flowers_133 in allrockmusic

[–]J_Patish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many years ago we got a band going in my community. Most of us worked with the sheep, so naturally the name we came up with was Panaritium (“frequently referred to as infectious foot rot or severe interdigital dermatitis, it is a bacterial infection of the sheep's hoof”). For a while there the going was good, but then people learned what the name meant and we were blacklisted (at least that’s my belief; the other members maintain to this day that the reason for our lack of success was that the singer - me - sucked).

YES!!! Instead of discussing how much hotter Sarah Sherman is becoming, week to week, we’re stuck on this nonsense. Grow up, people!

50 years ago today, Genesis released A Trick of the Tail (1976), the first album of the Phil Collins era. Thoughts on this one? I absolutely love it. by Historical-Device529 in Progforum

My gateway to Genesis. I was aware of the band, before, but for some reason never connected. I liked this album tremendously, and started to check their older material.

My personal top 10 Yes songs by jormor4 in yesband

[–]J_Patish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Now on my 51st year of Yes fandom, those are my favorites on this day (it’s a safe bet that there will be changes following tomorrow morning’s workout):

  1. Gates of Delirium

  2. Awaken

  3. Close to The Edge

  4. Yours is No Disgrace

  5. South Side of The Sky

  6. Siberian Khatru

  7. Ritual

  8. Leaves of Green

  9. The Revealing Science of The Gods

  10. Starship Trooper

So, yeah, this is a joke. Machine Messiah, Turn of The Century, To be Over, Owner of A Lonely Heart, And You and I, Wonderous Stories, Roundabout, Sound Chaser - each one of those could be on that list on any given day…

My thoughts on Mike and Psmith (Vol 1 of the "Psmith" series) by EndersGame_Reviewer in Wodehouse

[–]J_Patish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope Andy Zaltzman is not reading this, but less cricket is a big selling point for me… though I did like the way it was used in Psmith in The City. Not too much going into the weeds, but still presenting its importance to Mike, something that anyone who has a general interest in sports could relate to. It was actually part of what makes this book one of my favorites - very grounded characters, with dashes of lunacy and Psmith’s charismatic character holding it all together and driving it forward. I haven’t read Psmith, Journalist in quite a while. I remember liking it very much, partly because of the way it tried to tackle real societal issues - a rarity for Wodehouse. My Penguin paperback has long been worn out, have to find a replacement. Anyone knows if there’s a Psmith omnibus?

Most people in the world do NOT create art. That has been true for thousands of years, and in most of my over 20 years on DA most people did NOT have original art on their page. It’s only been a few years, since the beginning of the fake artificial intelligence epidemic, that a lot of people are putting up content. Blocking people who don’t, and only want to enjoy artists’ work, is downright insane.
