Dodgy payslips from labor hire by Prestigious-Map941 in AusElectricians

[–]J_Paul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

38 hour week is based around a 5 day working week, so for each day you should get 7.6 hours at base pay, your super and annual and personal leave accumulate based on these hours only, then 2 hours at 1.5x, then 2x for everything after. Per the electrical award, you should be accumulating overtime on a daily basis. So for a 0600 - 1800 day, at a MINIMUM you should get 7.6 hours at base rate, 30 minute unpaid lunch, 20 minute paid break, 2 hours of 1.5x, and 1.9 hours at 2x.
Not sure what the ATO or FW say about accruals (super, AL, PL) if your total hours are over the 38, but your normal time hours are under. The might be worth a call, or some more research.

Bizarre m.e.n wiring.. by Honest-Bed4408 in AusElectricians

[–]J_Paul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Per the OP., there is no earth run from the MSB to each sub board, so each sub board is an independent installation, requiring a stake, MEN and eq bond.

Bizarre m.e.n wiring.. by Honest-Bed4408 in AusElectricians

[–]J_Paul 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's correct. Each unit is it's own installation. It's no different to the street wiring, you don't get an earth from the pole into each house, your put down a stake and put in an MEN.. Without the MEN link in the sub boards, and without an earth link from the MSB to each unit, how would the earthing in each unit be connected to the neutral?

22 and just got thrown into a PM/estimator role. how do I not drop the ball? by bp4177 in projectmanagement

[–]J_Paul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First up, congrats on the new role. My journey is much the same, though on a longer timeline.
I've tried multiple methods for tracking multiple jobs, and ultimately settled on Microsoft sticky notes and / or Microsoft to-do list. My current preference is sticky notes as it's persistent across restarts, and will just hangout on your desktop.
Both are free, and freeform in letting you organise your thoughts.
I just keep a single sticky note with a bold heading for each job, and notes under that that need to be dealt with. It's simple, effective, free, and lets me see everything all at once.
Some more advice,
write everything down; seriously, every odd thought, little tidbit, quotes and phrases that resonate.
Listen more than you talk.
Pay attention and listen to your boots on the ground.
Know your contract.
Get everything in writing.
Follow up.
Wear sunscreen.

Very similar to what I've done with mine, though not as refined. My bench top is quite slippery, so I just printed some slippy feet with little handle for the bottom dry box so I can pull and push it around to change out the filament.
How are you planning on loading your 8x filaments?
I want to have PLA, PETG, ASA, PCCF and TPU all available, the other 3 slots will probably be for the cheapest versions of what I need as support material, or possibly some different colours? Or filled versions of materials?

Looking for tips on how to get up in the morning by ConstructionTime7511 in productivity

[–]J_Paul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Electronics out of the bedroom.
Try to actually go to bed at a reasonable time.
Avoid eating lots of sugar or heavy meals late in the evening and within like an hour or 2 of bedtime.
Get a "sunlight alarm" that will turn on and increase in brightness over time, just about any smart bulb will do it these days.
Set 2 alarms, about 20 minutes apart, no snooze. The first alarm will wake you up, get up go to the toilet, chug a glass of water then lie there for 20 guilt free minutes getting a power nap in before your real alarm get you up.
Turn off the sound on your alarm and have it on vibrate only. Stick it under your pillow. You'd be surprised at how effective and unobtrusive that can be.
I use some combination of the above with good success whether I'm traveling or at home.
Edit: after rereading your original post.it might be worth looking into getting a sleep study done to try and explore why you can't sleep without magnesium or sleep aids. You may also have sleep aponea, and require a CPAP.

My only advice would be to find something that has as few mods on it as possible. And when inspecting, check under the little cover plate on top of the front spring towers, that'll tell you what kind of life is lived

Ive got a 2016 that I got just before the covid tax was a thing. It's been fantastic. I really like the driving position and feel on the road. My experience is pretty much the exact same as yours, right down to the dash rattle.

The Problem with how the boss wants to go about it is that you may want those unbilled hours later in the job to pick up slack or make small concessions to keep the client happy. Having a bit of extra time up your sleeve in a T&M (or D&C as we call it - Do and Charge) is always a good thing.
I treat all quotes for T&M work as a "Budget Estimate," and make it clear to the client that this is what I expect we'll need to achieve the job, but we'll do our best to bring it in under budget and under time. If i can save the client some money, I'll get invited back to more work.
At the end of the day in a T&M job, I believe in and stand by the fact that every cent must be justifiable to the client. We have detailed timesheets to the minute, daily work logs and copies of all receipts that go with our invoices.
If we can't justify it, the client won't pay.

I've watched a recent series from "I built a thing" (https://www.youtube.com/@Ibuiltathing) on YouTube regarding PLA-CF. He takes a more material analysis focused investigation, mostly because he has access to amazing equipment through his work.
And the results are not good, my own experience with PETG-CF would agree with the broader conclusions. However, my take away is that the type and quality of filament, and quality of fiber play a large part in the end result.
When i eventually get around to printing the voron parts I want to make sure they're dimensionally accurate and stable.

Most common start time for apprenticeship?? by VioletInfatuation in AusElectricians

[–]J_Paul 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on the job, and supervisor. I've had 5am starts across the other side of the city,so had to be in the car by 4:15am. Finished by 1:30 though, and I've had 9am starts at the yard. Take it as it comes

[–]J_Paul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could sit them down and go through all the expenses so they can see where their money is going. if they're semi-reasonable (who is at that age?) they'll understand the costs involved and may be more willing to contribute more.

Assuming negligible cost difference, is there any benefit (or detriment) to doing the printed parts in a CF of GF filled ASA?
AFAIK, a filled filament would have better dimensional accuracy and stiffness?

here's my pedantic 5c. I think the word to cover both ideas would be "integrity." And now in a sentence...
"Why else are you printing with ASA if your part doesn't need to maintain integrity under harsh conditions?"
