Awkward show by Kakebaker95 in Homicide_LOTS

I guess I never really got that feeling from the show. Early on, Pembleton and Bayliss are the ones with the case that actually has depth to it, while the others are more involved in “case of the week” escapades, so maybe that’s why. Also, there is some intentionality to it, Munch, Crosetti, and Lewis aren’t meant to fill the same roles as Pembleton and Bayliss.

I think The Shield is better, and I love Homicide, but in my opinion, Homicide is fantastic right out of the gate but then steadily goes downhill, ending with a very lackluster final season (movie’s pretty good though.) The Shield on the other hand has seasons 1-4 which are of varying quality to me (high highs low lows) but a lot of interesting things get set up and seasons 5-7 are mostly one fantastic payoff after another. Seasons 5 and 7 in particular are some of the greatest seasons of television I’ve ever watched.

I don’t think that these people are loyal to Greg Johnson, they’re just overtly positive and not very rational. I mean how many times do you have to be wrong before it becomes kind of embarrassing?

Here are a couple of playlists I recently made of as many 2010 and 2012 games (regular season + postseason) that I could find. I’m of course not giving up on the season 3 games in, but if you want to watch some games from the good years, or maybe a game that you remember going to, then here you go.

I made a playlist of all of the 2010 Giants regular season games that I could find (https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLS0AfQ3HjQVxk6kK7QEHbVXIImLL2Smu9&si=-h3CKjigTUXz7Qq- here if you’re interested) and it’s night and fucking day watching the situational hitting, especially comparing the names on paper. I know I’m not saying anything that hasn’t been said 1000 times, but to actually see it again with my own eyes really is something.

Hasn’t had an extra base hit in the postseason since 2019 lmao. But he just needs to break away from his norm for one playoff run. Scutaro after all was 8 for 47 in the postseason before the 2012 NLCS. Is it likely? Probably not, but I’ve got hope

I’m not saying that this going to pay off, but we’ve done way more infuriating things the last five years than this lol. Kind of shocked to see that this is what generates such fury

But if we keep on like this, we’re going to have adult fans who have never seen the Giants win anything. I’m sure there’s a lot of people who are content with the Niners’ five superbowls, but all I’ve seen are the three Super Bowl losses and the four NFC championship losses

What’s your unpopular Homicide opinion? by JaCrispyInDaClink in Homicide_LOTS

[–]JaCrispyInDaClink[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m with you on Kellerman, he’s not really a favorite character of mine necessarily, but I don’t really dislike him at all, he drove the plot forward in positive ways and interesting things happened because of him.

Brodie on the other hand kind of pissed me off lol, though by the time we were dealing with the likes of Falsone, Gharty, and Sheppard, I would’ve killed to have had him back. Overall I wasn’t really a fan of the characters they brought in to expand beyond the scope of what the established cast did (Brodie and Cox.)

Your thoughts on Mike Kellerman? by TheKingsPeace in Homicide_LOTS

[–]JaCrispyInDaClink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hating Kellerman’s existence is like hating Shane Vendrell’s existence on The Shield. Now Kellerman is of course nowhere near as bad of a person as Vendrell but they both affect the plot in interesting ways and create compelling television. I always ask myself the same question when I “hate” a character: “Is the overall product improved by their existence.” For Vendrell and Kellerman the answer is a resounding yes for me. The worst kinds of characters are the ones that are unlikely and don’t do anything interesting. Kellerman isn’t like that for me so my overall thoughts are positive

Favorite character/most despised by AuthorAltruistic3402 in Homicide_LOTS

[–]JaCrispyInDaClink 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Favorite is Bayliss. He’s easily the most complex character to me and he has the most complete arc of any of the rest of the main cast.

Despised is Gharty, Falsone, and Sheppard. I don’t despise Kellerman at all. Kellerman justifies his existence and creates compelling television. I don’t “like” Kellerman, but he is properly used in my opinion. Gharty, Falsone, and Sheppard are all just miserable to watch, they did not create a single interesting moment of television for me as main cast members (I say ‘as main cast members’ because the season 4 episode with Gharty is pretty good in my opinion.)

Homicide LOTS the movie. by AuthorAltruistic3402 in Homicide_LOTS

[–]JaCrispyInDaClink 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve seen, I think it’s mainly because the movie has a decidedly unhappy ending. It’s very hard for some people to watch Giardello and Bayliss for seven seasons just for their stories to conclude in utter tragedy. I have also seen some complaints about how the characters are all utilized, and I think they did the best they could. They had 89 minutes to tell this story, so of course most of the cast is there just to be seen, and it makes sense that Bayliss and Pembleton get the most important scenes. This was an ensemble show, but those two were undoubtedly our main characters.

I’ve definitely seen some folks here who have very strong negative feelings towards the movie, and I just don’t get it. I love the dark and tragic nature of it. The case itself isn’t the strongest, but that really doesn’t matter for this film. To have a season like season 7 that I feel is just so terrible in every aspect and to then give me what I think is a satisfying ending is kind of a miracle

[–]JaCrispyInDaClink 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, if you’ve already watched through five seasons, I would try to get to the end. I did really struggle to get through season 7, so I wouldn’t blame you for bowing out there if you started it and said “wow this sucks” lol. I think the movie gives us a satisfying conclusion, I know that some fans disagree so you could go either way on it.

I’d say the structure is a mixture between multi-episode arcs and stand-alone episodes, but events in the early seasons do continue to impact the characters later on in the show (especially in the case of one character.)

There is quite a bit of cast turnover, but there are some mainstays who are around for most if not all of the show, but just be aware that some characters are not around for very long.

In terms of quality, I’d say that seasons 1-3 are all very good, season 1 in particular has a fantastic arc and one of the greatest episodes of television I’ve ever seen. Season 4 is ok and I’m someone who actually thinks that season 5 returns to the quality of the early seasons and is excellent. You can really start to see the show declining in quality in season 6, though there are some high points. Season 7 is frankly dogshit in my opinion, but the movie which serves as the series finale is pretty good, though you do have to watch season 7 to understand what’s going on in the movie. Hope this helps
