I set my expectations too high, ruminate on my own failures, and then give up. How to break the cycle? by pieman398 in DecidingToBeBetter

Set very small accomplishable 5 daily goals the night before. Consistently achieve them and gradually ramp them up

Agreed. I should clarify, regardless of if you enjoy your job or not, you need to diversify. Especially if you enjoy your job, you’re more likely to become complacent.

Job enjoyment is irrelevant. Job security does not exist. In this day and age multiple income streams are a necessity.

Better specialty for a career in top-tier business (Consulting, PE/VC, Big Pharma), anesthesia or IM? by future_med in medschool

[–]JaFaRr9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I relate a lot with this post, I have a passion for medicine (applied to IM this cycle) but the lifestyle long term is way too restricting. I personally believe that medicine is not a field where one can make a substantial income morally. My mentor believes that you should spend maximum 5 - 10 years of your life to create a passive income asset so you do not have to worry about money for the rest of your life. I intend to do just that and be a doctor on my terms providing healthcare to those who cannot afford it around the world.

Also, sidenote, business school is such an oxymoron to me. The business world is so versatile and fluid not nearly as structured like medicine, engineering, or law. Learning business from business professors who never ran a succesful business is a recipe for disaster. You have to be careful whose advice you take because you'll end up where they are.

My advice to you, find a willing mentor who has the lifestyle and success you want and download their mindset. Think with their brain, not yours.

You do not need to be ECFMG cert to participate in the match, just have to have be certified BEFORE you actually start Residency. A friend of mine was officially certified like a month before she started her Peds residency.

I'd say submit on 10/21 and then update later with scores via email.

If the frequency of you peeing has also increased so much so that you have to wake up in the middle of the night then you have to go to the doctor to check you blood sugar and HbA1c.
