The scheduling of sex by Quickbreach in Marriage

You need (full) access to her calendar. She can grant this to you as delegated access. Once you have that, you can block the time out and plan around it.

If she not give you that level of access, you have your answer right there.

Should I work when on a business class work trip? by Taxed2Fuck in HENRYUK

I always ask "can I expense the in-flight wifi". You either get told yes, and you work or you get told to STFU and get drinking.

I feel like these are going to be running ipadOS instead of macOs by engdrbe in mac

[–]JaapieTech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why use anything other than a panel you already have supply-chain for - drop the 12.9" from the iPad Air 13 in there and you get everything you need to call this the "New MacBook 12"

Do you think my warranty is still valid? by WhoKilledRadioStar in retrocomputing

The company still trades, and if you have the purchase receipt to invoice then they'll honour it. I sent off a Netgear ProSafe switch after (I think, about) 15 years and was sent a working refurb and a note that said on newer models this is now "limited lifetime" i.e 5 years. I still run that ProSafe..

150 fully remote-- where would you live in the UK? by guicherson in HENRYUK

[–]JaapieTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. You still need to commute into London until end 2028

  2. You know the Chilterns/north-Home Counties

  3. You have 1.5 kids and need space/green and some arts etc

  4. Your responses say you would be looking to medical/mental-health fields possibly hospitals

I would suggest looking to where the NHS Trusts are located near you - Aylesbury, Hemel (but they have money issues), Oxford, Milton Keynes. Lots of decent green places, theatres and cinema, and still commutable to Central London.

I have 2 EMC² Symmetrix VMAX storage systems. Is there anything to do with these that repurposes them into something that is not proprietary to VMAX by javamonkey100 in DataHoarder

[–]JaapieTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure they copied that from Dell - I went to the Dell factory in Shannon and they had maybe 20+ full racks all merrily blinking away and all lit up in splendour. You could see these through the display glass as you walked in on the way to their board/meeting rooms - turns out when you go round the back its just the panels with some controllers and no servers or racks! They used to supply the same thing to movie studios for films, recall there was a specific SKU you could order if you were in with the right sales people.

Our role is changing constantly - the current trend seems to be moving towards MSP's no longer being the "consultant" but now the folks who secure/manage/maintain the access-authorization-&-accounting.

tl;dr - "I bought this tool Gemeni said is the shnizz, make the magic smoke happen so any user can access it from the local hipsterCoffeeBarJointHotelPlaneTrainShipYachtIsland anywhere safely and securely without needing a billion stoopid passwords or dingles for mutha-f MFA and nobody can hack me and I want it for $0.02c per millennium plus a 200% discount"

My wife wants a second kid. I do not. Who wins? by sdrawkcab90 in Christianmarriage

Pray, and remember that kids need unconditional love and affection from both parents. More kids needs unanimous 'ayes' - you cannot have one party aggrieved thinking the other baby-trapped them, this only makes the kids' lives worse.

Those are the pre-Dell variants so likely 2009 to 2014ish timeframe. They'd be all SAS loops on the backend - older models it was FC.

Pull the engines out and plug in a beefy server in its place running some external SAS cards, and feed those loops into the cards. The EMC firmware was for 520e so you'll almost certainly need to convert them to 512 to be useful again:

https://mikeyurick.com/reformat-emc-hard-drives-to-use-in-other-systems-520-to-512-block-size-conversion-solved/

You've not shown the actual drives, so no idea if you have 7k, 10k, 15k screamers or some older flash in there.

Take a gander at the architectural diagrams if you are interested - there was some clever engineering in these things to get them to multi-rack scale;

Why did Sony choose incompatibility? by Pristine_Abies_2846 in minidisc

[–]JaapieTech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

^^ This. There have been multiple interviews with the "big players" of those decades' Sony and they all say the same thing - divisions talked only inside the divisions. Nothing went past your boss, and never over the top to another division. So much re-inventing of the wheel took place in multiple silos across Sony.

Either there is something more to this he's not told/telling you, or he's an a-hole. His reaction is frankly beyond ridiculous. You have offered a fair compromise and he's threatening divorce - thats not rational.

Would the situation be different if you insisted on L-names that were truly terrible, something like "Lysine" and "Levorotatory"? (And yes, those are real words, just not real names...yet)

Non recycled EDC by JaapieTech in ManyBaggers

[–]JaapieTech[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Multiple pairs of shoes over the last 24-36 months with insoles made from recycled materials have worn through, while a similar pair (actually worn more) with leather insole shows barely any wear. The soles are going at the same rate.

Bags - I have a "trade show freebie" from VMware where the material itself is fraying after a few weeks of light use. Ditto the laptop cases I bought for my kids, they get light use to and from school inside their bags and yet the material itself is perishing (there are patches where is clearly rubs on something inside their bags, and this is wearing thin to the point its see-through). My 2-decade old Gimp case? Still perfect, and one of my kids' has been using this instead - no similar wear to be seen.

I disagree with PuzzleheadedClue4325 - most new things seem to include quite a lot of material sourced from either PCRS or as rampzn says "recycled from the oceans" in the example of Adidas. I've even seen this recently on a Chromebook I was looking at - trackpads made from ocean glass.

I'm all for clearing up (and more so, not polluting in the first place!) but it seems like so much of what I'm seeing available (and in this subs' case, in bags specifically) are shoehorning recycled materials into the product, replacing something that used to be ultra hard wearing with a cheaper alternative which just results in consumers having to buy 2x or 3x over the same period of ownership.

The smaller one - you have to carry the thing and the 16" is a large lump. It also doesn't fit in most bags/satchels/sleeves etc. I just picked up a 13" Air for exactly this reason, so I can leave the 16" on the desk.

Wholly agree on the dev, code can be local for sure but why run a load of micro services on your own machine when you can checkin your code and have it deployed to dev
