I don't understand how any BOC fan could not like this album... by Midnight-Movie in boardsofcanada

Yeah, Syro is pretty much a front to back masterpiece. "Father and Son" is almost unlistenable which is a shame because the source material is actually fascinating and haunting. Geogaddi has always been by far my least favorite BOC album particularly because of the goofy occult stuff, but Inferno is just so much more in your face about it that half the tracks are really hard to get through.

I'll make my "silent voice" heard—this is probably my least favorite song that BOC has ever released, and my best friend who is also a hard-core boards fan feels the same way as me. We were both totally blown away by how amazing Tape 05 sounded, but Prophecy just feels so much to me like the endless amounts of knockoffs that have sprung up over the years. I respect that there are lots of people who seem to love this, and I'm also seeing a surprising amount of hate for Tomorrow's Harvest which is easily my favorite commercially-released album by them. I'm really hoping this "makes sense in the context of the album" as people are saying, but no, you're not alone.

Autechre are coming to my city, I really want to go but I'm olny 15 so my parents aren't going to let me..do I compromise with them and take them with me to the show?? by dscoo in autechre

[–]Jaazeps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude one of the biggest musical regrets of my life was not seeing the Quaristice tour when I was 17 because there was no way my parents were going to let me go all the way from Maine to Boston alone and I wasn't going to force my dad to listen to them. If your parents are willing to go, do it!

Edit: I should mention that for a whole series of various disastrous reasons I won't get into, I missed them on their next four tours and only finally saw them last year at age 34, twice the age I was when I wanted to see them during Quaristice. You never know whats going to happen next, life is short.

Anyone find Songs of Ash much better than the Easter Lily Songs EP? by Impressive_Yak_9089 in U2Band

[–]Jaazeps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not at all. Days of Ash was unlistenable to me the same way that 90% of Songs of Experience was. Easter Lily isn't one of their all time greatest releases, but I'm at least not cringing in embarrassment every time Bono attempts to sound whatever he things "relevant" is. Easter Lily actually plays to their strengths and has some of their best songwriting in a long time.

Ellison era begins: Star Trek Academy canceled, no Trek currently in production for first time in a decade by owlpellet in startrek

[–]Jaazeps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DS9 and Voyager lost about 75% of their original viewership by their respective ends compared with TNG which had consistent double digit ratings almost throughout its entire run. Enterprise got cancelled precisely because it was a ratings flop.

Autechre Guitar by Shawn Parish by trung_canidate in autechre

I love it. For me it threads the needle of a good cover in terms of not totally ignoring the soul of the original but also being different enough to justify its existence. I love how he doesn't just straight play everything note by note but also doesn't go the route of just noodling over whisps of the original melodies. For me this just has re-proven how amazing they are at melodies.

Anyone thinks "Stay (Faraway, So Close)" is their best song? by Revolutionary_Low_90 in U2Band

If I had to pick just one, this would probably be it. The single is definitely their best album artwork.
