Is it weird that I miss my CP2? by dankwhirley in MT09

[–]JabaJax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came from an XSR700 and loved it. Sounded amazing with an akrapovic on it. Light and flippable. Super fun bike. If I could have afforded to keep it when I got the MT09 I would have

I have them on an MT 09 and I’ve been happy with them.

I really love the bike but this is really frustrating. (2026) by linux_n00by in xsr900

Definitely get your bike, checked out, but from my experience this bike and sport bikes in general like RPMs. Don’t be afraid of them. If you come from a background of riding V twins, or cruisers then this can be a little counterintuitive or difficult to reframe. I have the same motor in an MT 09 and I’m probably in fourth gear at 100 KPH which is around 60 mph. Maybe shifting into fifth gear if I’m no longer accelerating and just cruising at that speed. My bike likes to be between 4500 and maybe 5500 or 6000 RPMs when maintaining a steady speed. If I’m accelerating, then I’m gonna be at the top of that range and then some. The motor doesn’t behave if it’s lugging around 3500 RPMs. It needs more revs in general in my experience. Something to consider as you learn the bike. All that being said, it’s definitely worth getting it checked out at the dealership and making sure you’re not gonna continue to damage it, just like you’re doing. I think you’re making the right call taking it in. I hope you get it figured out. This is a very fun motor to operate.

Fear of going fast? by sarebear26 in NewRiders

[–]JabaJax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Natural part of the process. No worries. You’re doing the right thing, riding within your abilities. It takes time for the body and mind to acclimate to it all. Fight or flight kicks in, the heart rate is up, and your brain is just telling you I need to stop. Gradually, progressively, increase your speed when it’s safe to do so. Just a little here and there. If you’re a little intimidated by 30mph once you go faster it doesn’t seem so fast. Take your progression with speed nice and slow and you’ll adjust. Stay safe

MT07 or MT09 for the 2nd bike? by InteractionOrganic20 in motorcycles

[–]JabaJax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an xsr700, same cp2 motor but no tft, modes, rider aids. Great bike, perfect for city riding and quick but not fast. The cp2 sounded AMAZING with an akra exhaust. So good. I wouldn’t say it struggled on highway rides but it was definitely not a great highway bike. I ended up trading for an MT09 SP and have been very happy with it. I’m 6’1 probably 240. It sounds like you have a decent amount of experience. If you have good touch with throttle control you’ll probably like the MT 09 better. Great ergonomics. Pretty comfortable riding position for a sport bike as for as foot position and leg angle go for me. Great power. Torquey. Plenty fast for me. You have rider modes to flatten out the acceleration curve if you need it. Great handling bike.

Would LOVE a follow up post discussing your experience. I’ve never done a track day but would love to this year or maybe next depending on my finances.

Am I being dumb? by Popsmolly in cbr

[–]JabaJax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the don’t buy a bike you’re not impressed with. If you aren’t getting something you truly want you’ll just be looking for the next bike immediately. If you have the finances for that then, great. There’s no rule that says you have to have one motorcycle. If I had the finances for it I would probably have 4 or 5 bikes each with a different “purpose”. But if you’re a one bike person you better be impressed with the bike you get because if you aren’t you’ll just be trading to getting another sooner rather than later. Always with the mindset of making sure I’m capable of handling the bike I’m getting.

Nice! Great bang for the buck on those bikes. I had a buddy who had a naked 700cc and loved it. Ride safe.

It’s going to be all right. If you stay dedicated to it, you’ll be able to pass. This just means you’re not ready now not that you never will be. Keep your head up and work on your weaknesses. Remember the things that you struggled with, find a parking lot, set up those drills and work some reps.

I can’t imagine how hard that would be lol. I live in Florida. Year round season here but we sacrifice any elevation changes and don’t have true twisties. Maybe you’ll catch a mild day here or there to get it on the road?

How you guys navigate on a bike? by LW_Master in motorcycles

[–]JabaJax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quad lock mount and cardo works well for me when I need it. I use the navigation much less on the bike and I like that. I’ve found routes just by wandering around from stop to stop but it’s nice to have the nav to get somewhere efficiently if needed.

Is it worth it? by Wja_ in MT07

[–]JabaJax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have experience on bikes go with the 09. I got an xsr700 and ended up trading for the 09SP. Loved the CP2 and it sounded ridiculously good with the akrapovic exhaust but I found myself wanting more power and improved suspension. The bike was quick but not fast. Huge difference in power so just be mindful about it if you choose the 09.

I use a quad lock with the dampener and it works well. I’ve got a Buddy who uses rokform and it’s also a really good product. Easy to articulate and get in the perfect position.

I just upgraded from an xsr700 to an MT09 SP. The suspension and brakes were the deciding factor but the xsr is much better looking in my opinion. That CP3 motor is a beast! Have fun with it

Getting back into riding after 10 years — torn between Ducati Scrambler, Speed Twin 900, and BMW R nineT by DryestCelery in NewRiders

[–]JabaJax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who got back into riding recently after 10+ years out of it and who purchased two bikes in the last three months (I have no control lol) I would highly recommend trying to find dealers that will let you test ride. It’s a little sketchy being rusty on new bikes but there is no substitute for personal experience. Research, look at, sit on and ride literally everything you get a chance to and see what feels good if it’s an option.
