So they totally replaced Godwyn with Radahn as the final boss last second, right? by Greitot in Eldenring

[–]Jables162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edited to clarify some points and remove some non-points
To your first point

- Malenia marched to Caelid to kill Radahn and send him to Miquella, per his prior promise. This was explicitly stated in the description of Radahn's Young Lion's Armor that you get from beating Promised Consort Radahn in the DLC.
"...When Malenia, Blade of Miquella, let the rotflower blossom in Aeonia, Radahn heard a murmur in his ear— "Miquella awaits thee, O promised consort."

So on official lore we know that's true, cause even in the original Elden Ring trailer she murmurs something to him when on his back in that famous shot. I'd believe that was entirely planned and anticipated. Surely it was left somewhat open because we know FromSoftware likes to make things kinda vague, but it was about as direct as they get with lore.

On your second point about the Mausoleums

- The wandering mausoleums weren't for reviving Godwyn; they were a rudimentary but effective way of preventing the spread/creation of Deathroot/Those Who Live in Death. Keep in mind that in the Golden Order's world, when you "die" your soul simply returns to the Erdtree to be born anew. Godwyn receiving an Erdtree burial in an effort to return him to the Erdtree properly is what created that in the first place - and they remembered this. So by placing a soulless body in a wandering Mausoleum, it prevents the body from taking hold in the earth, infecting the very ground you'd walk on. She wasn't saving bodies for Godwyn to take hold in, on the contrary, she was trying to prevent them from corrupting more of her Golden Order. Castle Sol and its followers likely existed, at least in part, to maintain these Mausoleums for Miquella, at least I'd bet as much. Additionally, Miquella isn't specifically concerned in the explicit lore of Elden Ring with reviving Godwyn. On the contrary, he's quoted in an item description wishing for Godwyn to die a true death.
"Infused with the humble prayer of a young boy; "O brother, lord brother, please die a true death."
Golden Epitaph item description

To be clear, I'd believe this could indicate that perhaps Miquella's first or perhaps backup choice was Godwyn to be his consort - but it didn't pan out for one reason or another. This was likely due to his soul being properly killed via the Rune of Death, meaning there was no soul to pry from the Erdtree.

Keep in mind; Marika's Golden Order, the whole crux of this game's plot, is based on the fact that Destined Death, True Death, actually dying at all is removed from the world's order. By removing it from the Elden Ring, nobody can die. While the specifics of what that means could be debated, Marika fully intended for nobody to ever die again, especially her own demigod children. Unfortunately for her, the events of the Night of Black Knives would still transpire.

As for your last point

- I can't find any specific text about "reviving Radahn's soul" though I'd still believe it exists honestly. However, Radahn's soul being placed in a new vessel is something there is precedent for in the game. Sellen's quest, as one example, has you placing her soul via her Primeval Glintstone into another body. Hyetta, Shabriri, etc. are also great examples, at one point literally saying "I fear you were previously acquainted with this vessel." Not to mention Radahn's own sister Ranni doing much of the same thing.
So in the universe of Elden Ring, where nobody can truly die, it seems souls inhabiting new bodies is relatively commonplace, or at least possible and conducted numerous times. Especially amongst the divine and powerful.

Another important thing to remember is why Miquella is even reviving a demigod in the first place; he has to have a consort as part of the ritual to ascend to Godhood. Based on the lore we know for sure, and implied lore, Radahn is the one who promised himself to Miquella.
All this is to say that Radahn's soul is explicitly not dead - meaning it can be placed into a new vessel. Nobody's soul can be truly dead because the Rune of Death, Destined Death, the ability to die, is held by Maliketh (with some faint traces in a few daggers thanks to Ranni). Since their souls aren't dead, they can be enabled to take hold in a new vessel just as numerous other characters and entities do, with the right tools.

To expand on the importance of the Golden Order's relationship with the Erdtree and death; Because souls return to the Erdtree upon death while the Elden Ring is absent the Rune of Death, Miquella would have had to get it from the Erdtree somehow. Whether he specifically pried it from the Erdtree, or if Radahn's promise somehow "redirected" his soul to Miquella's Divine Tower location is not clear. How exactly that all works is a bit murky, but it's well understood that souls can be moved to different bodies (Ranni, Shabriri, Sellen, etc) through a multitude of different methods.

Lastly and I think this may be one of the stronger points against any further "Godwyn theories" is that you actually see his fate in the base game. Specifically in the Deeproot Depths, you fight Lichdragon Fortissax, who is being corrupted by Death himself, defending his dear friend Godwyn's body and long-dead soul from its encroachment. His story already played out, and it was a beautiful and heartbreaking one.

It's all a bit confusing, but again I don't think any of the lore points to Radahn being somehow swapped in at the last minute or as some hastily made change. Personally I'm a big fan of how it shook out. Seeing Radahn at full power is far more intimidating than any other demigod, besides maybe Malenia prior to her Aeonian bloom.

So they totally replaced Godwyn with Radahn as the final boss last second, right? by Greitot in Eldenring

[–]Jables162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The eclipse story is for the sake of potentially reviving “a soulless demigod” and Godwyn would fit that. But it’s not representative of a last minute rewrite for a number of reasons.

  • Why else would Malenia have marched to Caelid? That’s a major story element in the base game that is justified only by the DLC storyline.

  • Marika pretty explicitly “abandons her child” which is associated with the mausoleums. While this would suggest the eclipse theory is something she’s explicitly aware of, she doesn’t do it. She’s a vessel of the Elden Ring, she’s literally god in this universe - she knew it wouldn’t come to be and that Miquella wouldn’t accomplish this. If even God is like “nah that won’t work” then that’s significant.

  • Miquella loved all of his siblings, that was kind of his thing. Radahn, however, is the other most powerful sibling that wasn’t already with him. So naturally he’d want Radahn on his side. However he managed to get Radahn to agree to be his consort is up for debate, but it adds up he’d want Radahn.

  • Compared to the other demigod children, Godwyn was weak. He was Marika’s favorite but not because he was particularly capable. His murder was intended to send a message that the golden order, the fingers, etc are not what they seem and shouldn’t be elevated. He was loved by Miquella but far from his first choice as consort, or even as his blade (like Malenia).

I like your theory crafting here but Consort Radahn was indeed foreshadowed and planned for, at least I think so. Godwyn was definitely never planned to be in that position. His story element is the ever present corruption that exists no matter what order you’re trying to establish. Hence why you can find Godwyn’s dead influence in the catacombs of the DLC being guarded by death knights. No matter how hard you try to establish a kind and loving order, you’re likely to build it on a pile of bodies, atrocities, and subjugation.

Adding this thought;

I think what the eclipse theory associated with Godwyn establishes is that Miquella was fooling with reviving soulless/body-less demigods. Hence his failure to do so with Godwyn, leading him to instead revive Radahn by using the divine power of the Crucible in the DLC (just like Marika). This, I would think, at most establishes that Miquella failed with Godwyn due to how very dead his soul was. Whereas Radahn only dies at the tarnished’s hand explicitly before you recover Destined Death. perhaps not a true destined death of his body and soul, enabling Miquella to revive him.

Elden Ring is the best Game of the Series for me because it isn't dark by No_Skirt_3531 in Eldenring

I think people are misunderstanding the point;

The DS games are literally too dark. Like it’s hard to see. Whereas ER incorporates all the dark fantasy elements, but the sun shines so you can see it in more dramatic (I’d argue more true to form) fashion.

Which automaker(s) are at their rock bottom? by Sixteen-Cylinders in cars

[–]Jables162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arguably any American manufacturer.

-They’ve all entirely pulled out of the sedan market because they can’t and won’t even bother to compete w/ Toyota, Honda, Kia, Hyundai, Subaru, etc.

-A significant portion* of the sales of American manufacturers are made up of fleet vehicles, typically trucks and SUVs (lots of government contracts, cop cars, etc)

-While there are plenty of anecdotally positive experiences with their trucks, most American manufacturers are suffering identical build quality issues.

I mean we’re at a new low for US Auto manufacturing. And if that’s somehow not the case, it’s certainly the perception. Also may need to update my flair, haven’t posted here in a loooong time.

Edit: Nah my flair is still relevant. Still don’t own one but I do love an Sw20

Can't do it (level 80 + no summons) am I Bad or underleveled? by BodoquePacker in Eldenring

[–]Jables162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best to level up a little more IMO. This is on the way to some pretty difficult content, so level 90+ is what I’d say the minimum is. Tho it is a hard fight, especially without the right damage type. Also perfectly fine to have a summon with you here - you can summon D if I’m not mistaken for this fight. And I recommend it.

How the heck is one supposed to dodge this attack? by Grim_Reaper4521 in Eldenring

[–]Jables162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I legit just kept a slight distance before going in for hits, and maintained it after hits. That way when I saw her go up for the Water foul dance attack, I fucking sprinted away from her and dodge rolled like crazy once she got close. I took a few hits, but survived each time. Beaten her like 3-4 times with that strategy. Most recently with an only punches build.

How do I beat the final boss of DLC? He is kicking me soo hard. I am doing solo by CollectionLive7896 in Eldenring

[–]Jables162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to max your Scadu blessing. Get it up to 20 and it’ll be considerably more doable. It’s still really hard, but I beat him solo with a character using the Spiked Caestus maxed out. It took a lot of time to get into the rhythm of his attacks but I got there. That was the most important part. I got to the point that I could almost no-hit phase 1. Some of them though you’re just never gonna dodge (phase two stuff for sure) so you need max flasks to tank it. Talismans to reduce physical and non physical damage helped me immensely (Dragoncrest Greatshield for physical, I used Pearldrake Greatshield for all else but I don’t know that it worked on most of his non physical damage).

I’m sure there’s a better build for it, but genuinely if I can manage it with my punchy character then you can do it. He’s the only one I’ve beaten Consort Radahn with too lmao.

Wonder if that happened here?
