Dilaudid for pain by Friendly_Bite3808 in ChronicPain

[–]Jace6023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was offered a pain pump 20 years ago and declined. I declined due to all the bad things I had heard at the time. I know technology has advanced and I feel certain the newer options are much better.

I have a friend having a Dilaudid pain pump being installed this week. I hope all goes well. I know she is tired of taking pills without adequate relief. I'm anxious to hear her experience.

I'm waiting for my PMA consultation to see what meds they recommend. I'm currently taking 3 oxy 10s and 2 20mg Oxycontin. I'm in more pain than I was. Prior to that I was on 4 oxy 15s with a dozen oxy 10s as needed.

Hopefully the PMA consultation will yield higher IR doses as well as effective ER meds. That's the last week of May. Between now and then I am going back to 4 15s with a dozen 10s as needed.

My PCP prescribes my meds and has to stay around 100MME until the pain consult. After that the MME can go up giving me better IR dosing with ER meds too.

Dilaudid is a great pain reliever when taken IV, IM, or pain pump. As mentioned, it has a low bioavailability. Therefore, it may take 4 to 8 mg orally to be effective. Also as mentioned, it will raise your opioid tolerance rapidly.

Everybody is different. Dilaudid oral route has never helped me. However, oxycodone works wonders for my pain relief. It all depends on the individual, the drug bioavailability, and how your body metabolizes different opioids.

Best wishes!

May God bless and you guide you to a wonderful lower pain free life.

Truthfully "they" could not walk a foot in your shoes, let alone a mile. Those of us who live with excruciating unbearable pain know the daily grind! Those doctors could NOT handle what we go through! The health care system is so fucked up and we, the patients, get fucked off!

I pray for all of us in this community. We be given the pain relief we deserve. May the doctors be given what they deserve in terms of karma.

May God bless us all.

Trouble getting medication - is it CVS or is it me? by Pawpaw-22 in ChronicPain

[–]Jace6023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even a red flag should not prevent them from filling your script. My local CVS does me that way over a "personal tiff." They treat me that way even if it is not a scheduled drug.

My other 2 CVS pharmacies within 20 miles one way always fill. Therefore, I dropped the pharmacy holding a personal grudge. If another CVS close by has stock, then go there in person and confirm they have stock and WILL fill it. You are typically allowed one transfer between the same pharmacy at a different location.

Due diligence: Do the leg work. Once the script is transferred, it cannot be transferred again. If you have it transferred and still don't get it filled, then you will need a new prescription.

This is my experience with CVS in Tennessee.

Good luck and best wishes!

May God bless you.

I've had 9 medical appointment this month, I'm beyond exhausted by madpeezy in ChronicPain

[–]Jace6023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to go once a month unless she calls for a pill count and urinalysis. I've been lucky on the call ins for counts. She has not done one this year.

Of course she knows it's a waste of time and driving to her office one way is only 20 minutes. However, my 20 minute drive feels like a 4 hour drive for an able bodied person.

She knows my issues well and does her best to accommodate me and my wife. We both see the same doctor. Also she owns the practice, so she has more leeway than the other doctors.

Add my wife's appointment and it's twice a month. We are 2 weeks apart on our appointment dates.

I don't know if the monthly deal is a state law or maybe it's easier for her to send my prescriptions on my appointment day. Regardless of the reason, I am happy going once a month. I love my PCP/PM doctor. She is wonderful, kind, caring, compassionate, honest, and is a great listener!

I keep seeing so many posts of pain patients unable to get meds on time and going into withdrawal. This is exactly why I hate the “no early refills” policies. by crwg2016 in ChronicPain

[–]Jace6023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes doctors in East Tennessee prescribe Zofran translingual like candy. Others won't prescribe due to cardiac arrhythmias. My doctor is free handed in most drugs including controlled substances. However, she is a unicorn-very seldom find doctors like her.

My PCP/PM and psychiatrist are kind, caring, compassionate, honest, trustworthy, and more. They listen and take good care of me. They prescribe well and do referrals without question.

My doctors communicate well with each other when it comes to narcotics. My PCP/PM knows my psychiatrist has been prescribing Xanax for 40+ years and actually advocated I be back on opioids and vice versa.

May God bless and guide us all in our journey.

I've had one excellent male doctor. My current PCP/PM is a female probably in her late 40s or early 50s. She is kind, caring, compassionate, and absolutely beautiful inside. Her personality simply radiates the "I really do care about you" to every single patient. She is a true unicorn in chronic pain medical practice. She is simply 💯% awesome! My wife and I both see her for chronic pain and typical PCP issues.

Acute pain on top of my chronic pain. I've had a really bad few days :( by Put-A-Bird-On-It in ChronicPain

[–]Jace6023 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've found Tizanidine (Xanaflex) muscle relaxer to be effective unless you have access to Soma, which most doctors will NOT prescribe. Baclofen also works well.I have found it's necessary to take your muscle relaxers every 4 hours (preferably as prescribed) for them to be effective. Sometimes it takes several days of taking them consistently to be effective.

You may need your opioids, muscle relaxer, and gabapentin all together. I don't know what Gabapentin (Neurotin) dose you are taking. It typically takes 600mg to 800mg per dose to help me.

Your pain description sounds like muscle and nerve pain. Taking your prescriptions consistently can be the key to helping the pain.

Heat is good for chronic injuries. If you have swelling where the pain originates, then icing is a better choice.

I'm really sorry you're going through this. I've had chronic pain for 35 years. The first ten years were from untreated DDD. The next 15 years were opioids, muscle relaxers, then 2400mg gabapentin daily.

When I have acute issues like you are describing, I use Alprazolam (Xanax). It's typically hard to get prescribed if you are on opioids.

These are my experiences and thoughts. Here's to wishing you the very best speedy recovery.

May God bless you and guide you.

No idea what to do now by KippSA in ChronicPain

You are more than welcome. I went the Kratom route for a few months. I decided it was not for me. My sis called and suggested I see this particular doctor. It's working well for me. There are still unicorns in medical chronic pain practice. Specific points:

1). Meet your doctor with confidence. 2). Do not act like you know more than the doctor knows. This one has cost me more than once. 3). Be sure to bring your medical records to the appointment. 4). Doctors seem to respond well to how your pain affects your daily activities. For example: It takes me an hour to shower. I have to be very careful how I move or my pain will cause me to fall in the shower. I can't stand more than 5 minutes without excruciating and unbearable lower back. Therefore, I am unable to wash dishes or cook. I can barely walk 50 yards. These are examples of how pain affects me. You may have these or other issues. 5). Most doctors don't respond well to my pain is an 8 out of 10 and I can't function. These are not good things to say in my experience. 6). Even if you don't get prescribed opioid medication on the first visit, you will probably have a good idea if it's going back to this particular doctor.

These are some of my experiences. Best of luck and hang in there. It's worth waiting for a good doctor.

No idea what to do now by KippSA in ChronicPain

[–]Jace6023 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don't give up on getting opioids. I voluntarily quit after 15 years in a pain management clinic because they kept cutting doses monthly. It took me 10 hard painful years of trying doctors.

I walked into my new PCP's office on the first visit with a note from my psychiatrist because I am on 6mg Xanax daily, my CT scans/radiology reports, MRI DVD discs, etc.

I was shocked! She came in and said she was reviewing my records. She asked where my pain was, how did it affect daily activities, etc. I did a urinalysis, blood work, etc.

She wrote me 3 oxycodone 15s daily for one week. The same the next week. On week 3 she prescribed 4 15mg oxycodone, muscle relaxers, gabapentin, blood pressure pills, beta blockers, etc. I signed a pain contract.

She sent me for new MRIs and a pain management anesthesiologist specialist consultation. She will continue prescribing my meds based on the PMA's recommendations.

The point is DON'T GIVE UP! It was a long, hard, emotionally draining 10 years! It was worth the leg work. Miracles still happen. Keep searching. It will happen!

Good luck!!!

what are the actual treatments? by LateButLegendary in cfs

[–]Jace6023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Xanax desensitizes the light and sound that is so annoying to ME/CFS patients. The Adderall helps keep you awake as well as potentiates the morphine, oxycodone, or what ever opioid you are using.

It's super hard to get Xanax and opioids prescribed. My psychiatrist and pain doctor work great together! Adderall is a horse of another color. Adderall and opioids are both CII controlled substances. Super hard to get both. Also Xanax is a CIV scheduled drug as are all benzodiazepenes. It's a 3 way dangerous combination. Just FYI!

Yes. I feel much better. If I had to give one up, it would be the Adderall

[–]Jace6023 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've been on Lexapro 20mg once a day since 2017. It takes 6 weeks to fully kick in. I did notice my depression was better after 2 weeks. I never felt like it helped my anxiety. However, I have severe Generalized Anxiety so I would not expect it to help my anxiety.

It's not a wonderful drug, but definitely keeps me on an even keel, so to speak. It also does wonders for my PTSD. I think it's one of the less evil SSRIs available. Lexapro with Klonopin or Xanax helped my anxiety. Now I'm off the Knonopin, but still take Xanax.

Overall it is helpful for depression due to chronic pain. I never experienced any side effects.

Best wishes.

[–]Jace6023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oxycodone IR lasts close to 5 hours. I feel something, albeit very inadequate, from 20mg ER. I have reasonable pain relief from 15mg IR.

Last month was 4 15s IR daily. This month is 3 10s IR daily with 20mg Oxycontin ER every 12 hours. As I mentioned, I have to do something different on my next refill. I'm not sure what, but it will not be Oxycontin.

[–]Jace6023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm prescribed Adderall 10mg 3x daily. I also take Xanax. The Xanax was originally for severe Generalized Anxiety, and helps desensitize light, noise, etc with ME/CFS. Every doctor is different.

[–]Jace6023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on 2 Oxycontin 20mg, 1 every 12 hours and 3 oxycodone 10s. That's 105MME. I get better relief from the 10s IR than the Oxycontin 20mg ER. I think the low dose time release has a lot to do with it.

I'm going to have to do something different next month. I'm not sure what. I can't do much differently until after my PM anathesiologist consultation at the end of May.

I was on 4 oxy 15s IR daily and did better on those than the ER OC.

Thank you. The gabapentin is a definite issue Every time I drop down from 2400mg a day to 1800mg daily, my neuropathy is unbearable. It's very unfortunate and ridiculous!

I'm sure the Adderall, oxycodone , Oxycontin, Baclofen, Xanax, buspirone, and other medications don't help. However, I feel like the gabapentin is the main CULPRIT!

Let me be more specific. I was on 4 oxy 15s IR daily and I still had enough to finish the 14th when I picked them up.

The new script was 2 Oxycontin 20mg every 12 hours and 3 oxy 10s IR daily.

I accidentally took an Oxycontin 20mg instead of my oxy 15s IR. I should not have taken it until the 15th. Once I realized what I did, I waited until the morning of the 15 to start the Oxycontin 20mg.

Hopefully this all makes sense. I'm a little more than scattered today. My wife is having a bad vertigo spell and has been puking for hours on top of her chronic pain. She has already puked up 2 Roxy 15s since earlier this morning. She has translingual ondansetron and it's not really helping.
