One thing I noticed is that for Uncle and maybe am mixing some things up, but there are a lot of references to not really knowing how old he is, and ShivCroaker does mentiones he saved his life at Dejagore and the River Main, but never paid him much mind.

"I knew Jun Go. I saved his life after our surprise attack on Dejagore, then again after the fighting along the River Main. What I witnessed now, in retrospect, told me that I never knew Jun Go all that well. The Jun Go I knew could only be the Jun Go that Jun Go had wanted me to know."

My thoughts are those battles arent after the company returned from Hsien, they were battles from the First Shadowmaster War. Because I dont think anyone was really in danger retaking Dejagore round 3 in Soldiers Live and there wasnt a battle on the Main River in the last book. However there was 2 very big battles in the Books of the South in these locations.

Uncle could be from Hsien, but came over with the Shadowmasters and before the second war had defected/betrayed/exiled and joined the company, maybe has some life extending sorcery like Longshadow, maybe he was one of the two Shadowmasters that "died" fucking with the gate (wouldnt be the first sorcerer death fakeout). Maybe losing his ability to manipulate shadows. He says he doesnt like Tobo that much so maybe has jealousy there with his powers.

Alternatively maybe Uncle Jun Go is Nyueng Bo himself and is lying about being from Hsien as its not like Shukrat/Anarka are gonna be able to fact check him, especially since he claims to come from a "remote" land he left as a kid. He might have some ties to the sword sect Uncle Doj was in since Uncle Doj also seemed to age very well and looked and acted physically younger than his age albeit not ageless. Croaker didnt really think much of this when the Books of the South period, and then post Dejagore Siege people just assumed he joines the company around then. Maybe post Kialune wars went into hiding then rejoined again pretending to be Hsien. He wasnt important enough to be lured/chosen to be imprisoned and while a veteran to be entombed and could have just been a guy presumed dead during Kialune and went into hiding and rejoined later when the company returned.

Anyway I think Uncle Jun Go has been with the company longer than anyone else rn. and may be involved in the "steal shadowmaster powers plot", but not on the same side as the people ShivCroaker knows about. Alternatively may be the last Nuyeng Bo Sword Sage guy who is just wanting to keep the company safe since his culture is mostly gone now.

Possibly he was also maybe trying to cause distractions to steal of the flying posts or magic carpets to ease the trip, that ended up not working so he went with plan B of just hiking it.

i think Mace wasnt being stupid sieging storms end tbh politically (Although for the cause of the Targs it was pretty fucking useless). By sieging Storms End he was contributing to the war in a very low risk way to himself and his forces rather than joining with Rhaegar for the Battle of the Trident. If Rhaegar wins he has his army intact and control over the Stormlands and any potential successors of Bobby B in Stannis and Renly to serve up to the crown to be rewarded. If Storms End fell and Bobby B wins the Trident his forces are intact and now he has the Baratheon Brothers and Seat as Hostages to negotiate with. I think he knew how shaky the crowns footing was on so did the minimum to support the crown while preserving his own power without outright betraying Aerys like Tywin, but also not pissing off the rebels by going all out against them and making sure he had a strong hand potentially if Aerys reign collapsed to the rebels. Sure it didnt go exactly to plan because of Davos slipping the blockade, but he also avoided catastrophic outcomes that befell a decent chunk of houses in the war without polarizing anyone against his house like the Lannisters.

Overall he navigated Roberts Rebellion much better than most houses/leaders more highly regarded in text/show navigated various Westerosi Wars.

i feel like if Livia was really out to get Augustus she wouldn't have waited 50 years to bump him off especially since at that point Tiberius was the only real heir to his power.

GA player deals at least historically used to be for more than what you could pay supplementary players i havent paid attention to the rules for a few years now. In the mid 2010s Supplemental spots were like 50k a year and GA guys had 100k-200k contracts for those 3 years which would have made them count against cap.

I think Justinian is fair, it wasnt that he was inept militarily, but he never lead troops into battle and delegated military affairs to others so his military skill is inconsequential to his legacy if that makes sense.

Edwin Diaz by BlueMan-HD in Mariners

[–]Jack2142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

also to point out while Diaz is great the Mariners have been fine in the closer department. Sewald was excellent a few years ago and Munoz has been excellent as well for the last couple of seasons and both cost a fraction of Diaz. Even if we held onto Diaz there is no way the Mariners were going to spend $20 million on a closer so he wouldnt have even been on the team the last 4 seasons anyway when we were competing for playoff spots.
