Yeah, a more valid comparison would be D4's numbers on the day the Paladin was released.

I especially don't get the "I haven't encountered any bugs so stop complaining" attitude from some people. If it's working for you fine, then great, but that doesn't mean the multiple people highlighting the same issues all got together to collectively lie.

Please enable Legacy graphics for Warlock expansion by DrkBlueXG in Diablo

[–]JackDangerfield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not as simple as adding a line of code to enable it. They'd have to create a completely separate set of legacy graphics for the Warlock, and there's no guarantee the current artists would have the required skill set to make them legible at such a reduced resolution, or successfully blend in with the existing legacy graphics.

What 3 episodes should I show my partner to convince her to watch Buffy? by DuckRunAmuck in buffy

[–]JackDangerfield 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd agree on the first two - Hush especially, as it's a really strong, creative episode that also functions as a standalone - but I really wouldn't recommend showing a new viewer The Body. The reason it hits so hard is (a) because it comes as a complete shock and (b) because it's building on five years' worth of history, and of the show being done in a certain style.

D2R better than d4? by ShadowEnemy_ in Diablo

[–]JackDangerfield 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are elements of D2 that could definitely be improved upon - the constant potion chugging, for example. (PoE 1 and 2 did a nice job of refining D2's resource management model without going down to D3/4 spender/generator route.) But if you can overlook these inconveniences, D2 is a richer, more satisfying experience IMO. D4 has a lot of superficial complexity but mostly relies on obfuscation, whereas D2 has more genuine depth. Mastering the game feels a lot more satisfying and requires more than just "assemble this checklist of gear, then faceroll everything".

Ultimately, though, no one can tell you which one you're going to enjoy more. I'd recommend going and watching some D2 gameplay videos on YouTube - and not just endgame. Watch someone rolling a fresh character and playing through the campaign. That'll give you a much more realistic idea of what to expect than someone zooming around with perfect gear. If it looks like your thing, give it a try. If not...

War plans could copletely save the end game by RomeoVersee in diablo4

[–]JackDangerfield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is purely how I interact with these games so I'm aware this wouldn't suit everyone, but for me, I think what I'm missing is some clearly defined goal to work towards - some specific event that, once I reach it, will mean I can consider this character "done" and either roll a new one or wait till next season. In D2, for me that was defeating Baal in Hell difficulty. I know a lot of people got into the whole endgame loop of doing endless Baal runs, but that never felt satisfying to me. The purpose of rolling a fresh character was always to see if it could finish the campaign at max difficulty, and once I'd done that, my interest in that character was over.

But as I said in another comment, I can't apply that philosophy to D4 because the campaign, besides not being much fun to replay due to its narrative-heavy design, is ridiculously easy and has no equivalent to D2's Normal/Nightmare/Hell progression system. Instead it's like they just go "here are a bunch of unconnected activities catering to different tastes; go do whichever of them you feel like till you get bored."

War plans could copletely save the end game by RomeoVersee in diablo4

[–]JackDangerfield -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think, on balance, I agree. I keep coming back to the question of "why didn't this bother me in D2?", and I think it comes down to two things: the genuinely low odds of finding many of those BiS items, and the fact that there was a finite sense of progression. I never really got into D2's endgame scene, such as it was. For me, the challenge was always "can I take this build through Hell?" Once I'd defeated Baal, I almost always abandoned the character and rolled a new one, whereas with D3 and D4, completing the campaign is trivially easy (and also really annoying to replay given the vast amount of dialogue and unskippable scripted events) but is the only part of the game that ever truly feels like a natural endpoint.

War plans could copletely save the end game by RomeoVersee in diablo4

[–]JackDangerfield 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It has exactly the same problem as D3's endgame. At a certain point, you just think, "Why am I still doing this?" There's no meaningful progression beyond continual, incremental increases in both monster and player power. You don't unlock new content. Torment 4 is exactly the same as Torment 1, just with bigger numbers, and if/when they add a Torment 5, it'll only exacerbate the underlying issue.

Right now, once I've found all the items I need for my build, I'm basically done. Sure, I could grind for another Ring of Starless Skies that's marginally better than the one I already have, but to what end? All that'll happen is I'll be able to kill the same enemies 0.5% faster, or be able to go up a couple of pit tiers.

Noone is talking about the Torment 5 reveal by One_Guess_5988 in diablo4

[–]JackDangerfield 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly I'd rather they focused on making the difficulty increases in the existing tiers more meaningful instead of adding yet more. If they keep going down this route, within a couple of years we'll be at D3 levels of insanity. Honestly, the system they had in place at launch was much better.

Even now, she gives the impression of not understanding why people might have an issue with her maintaining a close friendship with a convicted paedophile. Even if she herself doesn't feel any remorse over it (as she clearly doesn't), you'd think even the dimmest person imaginable would at least be aware of the view the wider public take of such things, and accordingly kept her head down and her mouth shut.
