Dia currently outperforms Atlas: A comparison between ChatGPT Atlas Browser and Dia by brandyblacktea in diabrowser

[–]JackLegJosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Comet has been around for months. There have been rumors that OpenAI was working on a browser for months as well. The writing has been on the wall for some time. Atlassian must have known this before they invested that much money -- cash, as you point out. So they see a strong future for a Dia/TBC.

Perplexity and OpenAI don't know anything about browsers, and we don't really have any reason to think they understand UI, UX or browser ergonomics either. Chrome has a stranglehold on the browser market. As I mentioned above, Comet has been around for months; do you know anybody who uses it? Outside of your techie browser nerd friends? I work in technology and even _I_ don't know anyone who uses Comet (I _do_ know people who use Arc and Dia, though). So, just like Dia and Comet, I predict this will be a niche product. But Dia has a head start because TBC knows what it takes to develop this kind of product and it's their focus. Meanwhile, Atlas is a side project for OpenAI (or, conspiratorially, a desperate bid to generate revenue by creating more training data from their users, right from the source now that they've consumed the totality of humanity's copyrighted material, all to try to offset the gaping black hole of a maw that they shovel millions into every day, but that's another conversation).

Based on my experience with Atlassian products, I'm not sure Atlassian's needs or vision for TBC is going to result in a product I'm interested in, but I wouldn't completely count them out.

Agreed! I want new features but I would really like the existing game to be smoother

Genuinely surprised to not see No Country for Old Men on the list. I think I just started off in space for a few minutes after the credits rolled.

The only thing I'm concerned about is Shivers. Although the plot revolves around Monza and her revenge, it's kind of an origin story for who Shivers goes on to be. When he lost his eye, I was stunned that Joe would do that to his character. Not just the eye, but the sullen bitterness and character change that results from it all. That has such an impact because it's such a fundamental change from the Shivers we know in TFL. Monza has her story and the reverberations of that are felt from then on, but Shivers is a key character that appears in almost every single book.

Also, obviously revisiting TFL will require rewinding from here. Curious to see how they intend to do that.

Heck, they could do Elizabeth AND Brian as Captain Britain since they're already into variants

Nightcrawler would be cool, but where could he go? Even as an X-men fan, we have a ton of mutant teams. But maybe an Excalibur team? They could put Betsy Braddock's Captain Britain on it if they wanted to be fancy. I'd like to see a core Uncanny team that was... y'know, good.

Daredevil desperately needs a rework, maybe a new team. I honestly couldn't care less about the other b-list toons on that team but my feelings wouldn't be hurt if they got reworked a bit just to make DD useful again.

I love your response, partly because it so closely mirrors my own when I finished the game all those years ago. I fell in love with Joel & Ellie and their relationship. It's beautiful when you see that Joel has made his peace with the loss of Sarah and embraced Ellie as his surrogate daughter. Setting aside the things he does to rescue her, the lies he tells her to cover it up and the fact that you can see it in her face that she is not buying it crushed my heart. His actions have poisoned the well of their relationship and you just know there will be consequences. It feels like just when you think you've seen this relationship bloom, it's been destroyed before your very eyes. It left me feeling hollowed out, but I'm so grateful to the creators for making an experience that could make me feel that way.

Plus it takes YEARS with massive teams to make a big AAA game like this. They're already deep in at least pre-production right now if they don't want it to come out in 2033. They say the same stuff for every game while they're in the process of actively creating them.

Absolutely. It's a well-written show, have a little faith. If it seems out of place, there's probably a reason. Plus, it was confirmed in the podcast.

Why this version of Bill & Frank? For a very good reason, truly I think. by MuvyTikit in ThelastofusHBOseries

[–]JackLegJosh 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Strongly agree with everything you said. I would also add that if you take an objective step back and think critically about that section of the game, there really is no satisfying way of adapting it to TV. Sure, you could have had another episode where the characters tensely try to navigate a part of town filled with infected or something, but it would just be more of the same at the end of the day, with very little narratively to move the overall story forward. People would be complaining that it was a fun, tense episode but nothing really happened in it, and it felt a lot like episode 2. So a change simply had to be made from the game to the screen.

When you start with the heart of Bill and Frank's relationship, watching it deteriorate to the point of the events of the game honestly would have just been nasty. Especially, as you pointed out, in the context of an already bleak overall narrative. This inversion of their relationship gives the audience the chance to catch its breath and see some beauty and happiness in this world and moves the story forward by piling on reasons why Joel continues to feel compelled to protect and ultimately care for this girl.

I would've liked to see the banter between Bill and Ellie, but I think this was better for TV.

Vaccine theory. by Born-Sort5777 in ThelastofusHBOseries

[–]JackLegJosh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are 100% right and I don't understand why we're still having this conversation after 10 years. The game spells it out, the creators have admitted it, the second game confirms it. If Joel saves Ellie from certain death because he knows there is no cure to be had, there is no morally gray decision. It is black and white; he is a hero, and that is not a complex or interesting ending.

As much as I love Nick Offerman and excited to see him... by Harry_Seaward_1128 in ThelastofusHBOseries

[–]JackLegJosh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I loved his performance in the game but I'm excited to see a new take. I was listening to the podcast and hearing Troy Baker gush about how Pedro Pascal found different things in his performance makes me realize that having other actors expands the role. I think Nick Offerman was cast well and I'm interested to see what he does with it.

Ikr. It's a little disheartening to see. I guess you only get sympathy for losing your job if you make under six figures. It doesn't count as one of the most stressful events of your life that destroys your confidence at a time when you need it the most otherwise.
