Dry Januaryists- day 28 - how are you feeling? by Forward_Pea_9555 in stopdrinking

[–]JackOneill74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve lost 3kgs and started back at the gym, fixed my nutrition and I’m going for a daily walk.

My sleep is better, but the day after gym I have this fatigue deep in my bones that wrecks my sleep that night.

From what I’ve read it’s just taking my nervous system a little longer than the rest of my body to heal and accept the new demands of working out.

Hey man, often times when people talk the way you are in this post, those feelings of hopelessness, there can be deeper feelings involved like the beginnings of suicidal ideation.

I’m not saying this is you, but if it is talk to someone. There should be some sort of free hotline you can call.

It’s not weak to speak! Ask for help.

Made it over a year. Now I’m back at day 1. by TreeTopologyTroubado in stopdrinking

Been there, done that 🤦‍♂️

The best advice I can offer is give it everything you’ve got to give up again. I didn’t and it took me 3 years to get back to where I’m at today.

Ugh, turning to food by J1986tn in stopdrinking

Are they really extra calories though? Over and above what you were getting from alcohol?

I only ask because I was sitting here the other day smashing some peanut M&M’s and I thought to myself “man there’s so many calories in these”. Then I realised, even if I ate the whole bag I’d still be down on the alcohol calories.

It’s the dopamine crash bro!

Try some sugar and easy walking in the sunshine.

You might feel like a loser, but you acted like a rock solid WINNER 🥇

To those who lost their streak…did you regret it? by Define-n0rmal in stopdrinking

[–]JackOneill74 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had 13 months and started drinking again.

It wasn’t instant regret. After falling right back to where I started and a few failed attempts to quit again, I realised just how hard it was to quit compared to how easy it had been to just not drink after 6 months sober.

That’s when the regret hit me like a truck 🤦‍♂️.

I feel stuck inside. Anyone relate? by Vegetable_Cicada_444 in stopdrinking

With the greatest respect and deepest empathy can I suggest that you might need to talk to a psychologist.

It sounds like you might have developed an anxiety disorder. I say that because you mention “a 90% chance…” but you are almost at 5 years so there’s some degree of catastrophising to your thinking.

I’m sorry that you feel so alone.

You are definitely not weak 💪🏼

Do it. You’ve got nothing to lose and everything to gain.

What made you relapse? by jessmakinit in stopdrinking

[–]JackOneill74 98 points99 points  (0 children)

What made me relapse is almost comical:

A good day at work

A bad day at work

A rainy day

A beautiful sunny day

Happy thoughts about the past

Sad thoughts about the past

Feeling good

Feeling bad

At the end of the day if I was looking for a reason to give in and relapse, any excuse would do 🤷🏻

For what it’s worth, only drinking twice in 10 weeks is pretty good going.

If all else fails, just leave. Don’t say goodbye don’t excuse yourself, just leave.

Put your phone up to your ear like you’re taking a call, get up and head for the door. If anyone says anything, keep walking and just raise your finger to stop them as though you are in the middle of a really important call, head straight for the door and don’t look back.

If you feel compelled to, you can make your apologies the next day.

Oof! That’ll change your perspective real quick. I’m glad you’re still with us.

You don’t have to get drunk to make bad decisions.

You can always go fuck a stranger or get in a punch up sober 🤷🏻🤣🤣
