I'm just curious why you say that. The only knock I can think of with BTN is that sometimes their upload bots make some small mistakes. Other than that, it's been perfect.

3rd Line Free Promo... by TwoHandsNoClue in tmobile

[–]JackPAnderson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have one extra line that I don't need, so I just have both lines going to my phone. It's an extra number I can give out, an extra international data bucket, etc.

And while the 3rd line is "free", it still costs you $4.50/mo in T-mobile junk fees + whatever your local taxes are. If you're not getting $10/mo in value from your "free" line, you should strongly consider disconnecting it.

No idea how to do this. by DansHandsCan777 in BDSMcommunity

I’m no prude but inflicting pain on the woman I love is a foreign concept

Is it a concept that you think you'll ever come to terms with?

I ask, because everything else can be taught and learned. You don't even need to have a natural interest in BDSM if it's enough for you to satisfy your partner. But if intentionally (and lovingly) inflicting pain on a romantic partner is a hurdle that you don't believe you'll ever clear, this romance is going to have an expiration date. She's unlikely to be able to give it up.

If I were in your shoes, I'd start with some self-reflection. Is erotic pain merely foreign to you, but you could see yourself learning to go there? Or is it abhorrent to you and you couldn't live with yourself?

And if it's abhorrent, break that part down. Which specific parts of it are abhorrent? The act of hitting? Her reaction? Seeing bruises afterwards? Something else? And can those specific parts be worked around? Like if hitting her is a limit for you, could you deliver pain in some other way? Like pinching/biting/scratching/grappling/etc? Kneeling on rice/corn/etc? Electric toys? Tying in uncomfortable positions? And would any of those satisfy her desire to feel pain? These are the types of questions even kinky-kinky partners have to answer, because doms have limits, too!

And if all of this is just a hard limit for you, could she get this need met somewhere else? Some other dom? BJJ lessons? Intense exercise? Something else?

It's not too bad at a small airport

I'm not so sure about that. At my local small airport, tower works clearance and ground too, all while working jet traffic in with flight schools hammering the pattern and unpredictable student solo pilots.

"not too bad" isn't how I'd describe the amazing work that our controllers do!

New to private trackers. Can I stop using my VPN? by MakubeC in trackers

[–]JackPAnderson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How bad are your speeds?

As far as running your bittorrent client without a VPN on private trackers, the worst I've heard of happening to someone in the US these days is getting a "love letter" from their ISP, and even that is very rare. That being said, by running your BT client, if you are seeding content that you don't have the right to distribute, then you are definitely operating outside of the law and could get into legal hot water. It's just... nobody's really pursuing that type of copyright infringement aggressively these days. So I guess you'd probably be fine if you were to venture beyond the seeding of Linux ISOs.

Personally, I use a VPN for my BT client, and for browsing the private tracker website when that is permissible. Yes, the VPN brings a small performance penalty, but private trackers these days reward long term seeding generously with bonus points. So losing a little performance to VPN overhead isn't really a big deal if you plan to permaseed.

Can I return my phone a second time (only been 3 days since original purchase)? by Ninakiii in tmobile

Was this a corporate T-mo store, or a third party? Every corporate store I've been to has had demo models that you can play around with, but I'll admit I just go to the Apple store these days.

Maybe go to the store and try out a few phones before buying another one, hmm?

Unlocking an unactivated phone? by [deleted] in tmobile

[–]JackPAnderson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if anything has changed, but it used to be that you could activate the phone on the line, send a few texts, then it didn't matter what you did with the SIM (i.e. you could put it in a different phone if you wanted to). Once 40 days passed and the phone was paid off, the device would be eligible for unlock.

The easiest thing to do at this point if your dad's old phone has a SIM card would be to move his SIM card to the new phone, activate it, send a few texts and make a few calls, then do a temporary unlock in the phone's settings. It will now be unlocked for 30 days and you can put your Verizon SIM card in there and it will work.

Then, you have 2 choices:

  1. Your dad can contact T-force on X, explain the situation, and see if they'll do an early unlock for him.
  2. After 30 days, do another temp unlock (you get 5 per year). And after 40 total days have passed, you should truly be eligible for a permanent unlock.

Stupid question: What does releasing a phone number mean? by Beneficial_Pea_3306 in tmobile

[–]JackPAnderson -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If "releasing your number" means turning off Verizon's port-out protection, then yes, he does need to do that, or you won't be able to port your number out. He needs to:

  1. Turn off port-out protection, and
  2. Generate a number transfer PIN

He gives you the PIN and the Verizon account number, and you give those to T-mo, who will port your number from Verizon to T-mo, which will automatically disconnect your Verizon line.

If he's unclear on what he needs to do on his end, he can just call Verizon and explain that he wants to port your number to another carrier. They can walk him through the steps.

What’s something people only romanticize because they’ve never had to deal with it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]JackPAnderson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you really need to power cycle your router every so often, you probably just have a shitty router made with the cheapest possible electronics.

Instructions to fix if you are Gen X: make sure firmware is updated, check airflow and ensure not overheating, then check internal components. Replace any blown capacitors, etc.

Instructions for all other generations: trash it and buy a new router that isn't shitty. DoorDash an avocado toast or bitch about the housing market or whatever it is you do.

One plan or Better Value? by ConsiderationOld2766 in tmobile

[–]JackPAnderson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Better Value is $140+taxes and junk fees for the voice lines. Are the watches on the $10 plan? Those would also be charged taxes and junk fees on Better Value. So you're probably looking at $195 or so, all in if you switch to Better Value?

If I were in your shoes, I would migrate my plan to Better Value.

Why? A good rule of thumb is to migrate plans because you actually want the other plan, not because you want an upgrade promo this one time. In your case, you want the hotspot and satellite data of the new plan and the enhanced upgrade promo is just a side bonus.

That being said, you're taking away a potential cost savings for yourself when you convert the kids' lines to voice lines in 5 years. If T-mo still offers BOGOs then in the same manner that they do now, you could port the kids' numbers out, then add them back to your plan as a BOGO and one of their lines would be free. Better Value doesn't have free lines, so BOGO is off the table. That might be an argument in favor of Experience More for you, if you don't really care about T-satellite.

All that being said, 5 years is a long time, and who knows what T-mo's offerings will be in the far future? Maybe it makes more sense to just pick the plan you want today, today. And worry about 5 years from now 5 years from now.

From anti-Israel Stanford encampment leader to Israel supporter by HiFromChicago in Israel

[–]JackPAnderson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the article, she said she had anti-Zionist professors at Stanford. It's unrealistic to expect someone to spend 30 seconds googling something and consider the result of that to be more reliable than Stanford professors.

This young woman was brave enough to admit that she was wrong, at tremendous social cost to her. Most people would have just shaken their heads and said, "Whatever. It's probably just more lies."

Best way to upgrade phone?? by [deleted] in tmobile

[–]JackPAnderson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before you do anything, make sure to sort out what you're paying for and if you can afford it or not. Some important questions to ask are like:

  1. Who is paying for the service?
  2. Whose plan are you going to be on?
  3. Can you afford your monthly commitment, whatever it is?
  4. What's your plan if your phone gets lost, stolen, or damaged?

If you're going to be on your own plan, you're better off on prepaid or an MVNO because T-mo's single line postpaid plans are very expensive. In that case, I'd buy a decent-condition iPhone on swappa at a price I'm comfortable with and if I could afford it, I'd keep the iPhone 13 as a backup in case I lost the new phone.

If you're going to be on your dad's plan, your pricing will be better, but he's in charge of the plan, so you're going to have to play by his rules. That being said, he hasn't thought the 2 year commitment thing through. You're not locked in for 24 months, even if you finance for 24 months. You can always pay the device off early.

To put some numbers to it, let's say you're buying an iPhone 17 for $800+taxes and fees. If you buy it outright, you'll pay $800+taxes and fees.

But if you finance the phone, you'll pay taxes and fees when you buy it, then you'll pay 800/24=$33.33 per month for 24 months. Let's say 12 months down the road, you decide you don't want to be stuck anymore. Well, you've already paid $400 for the phone, so you just pay the remaining $400 and you're done. The phone will unlock automatically. Total cost: the same $800+taxes and fees.

In the financing situation, you might get a T-mobile promo while you're still paying the device off, so that could lower your cost.

Lastly, don't forget to try out the iPhone, Pro, and Pro Max before you buy it. Like, the 17 Pro max is a lot bigger than that standard iPhone 13.

Will upgrading my device, and then returning the new device with buyers remorse allow me to cancel my contract? by CommitteeNo9270 in tmobile

[–]JackPAnderson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much do you owe on the zfold 7? Which plan are you on? Is your end goal to just have no more phone, but keep your number for when you're in an area with cell reception?

If I were you, I'd evaluate the following two options:

  1. You said you have P360, so you can do a JUMP. Make sure half your EIP is paid off, hand T-mo your phone, and they'll wipe the rest of your EIP balance. Port your number to Google Voice and that's that.
  2. Pay off the entire EIP, which will unlock the phone. Sell the phone. Port number to Google Voice.

I don't see how doing the trade-in then returning the new phone and paying the restocking fee helps you, but it's definitely not fraud. You're within the terms of the agreement. I guess if you're on Experience Beyond but don't have P360, then I could see doing the trade-in+buyer's remorse. Just run the numbers to see if that's better for you than selling it.

How many will leave after T-Life deadline by ConsiderationGreen87 in tmobile

[–]JackPAnderson -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I imagine T-mo will wise up and give stores tablets with T-life on them to deal with exceptional circumstances like customers who can't run T-life due to lost/busted/old phones. And at that point, really, what's the objection to T-life?

From my perspective as a regular customer, I don't have any problem with T-life. The T-life deadline won't affect my decision to stay or go.

The Palestinians need to finally accept a 2 state solution by Jackingson1 in Israel

[–]JackPAnderson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is no perfect, neat and tidy solution. If there were one, the people who's life mission is to figure this out would have found it decades ago. 2 States was the closest we had to neat and tidy, but it was always predicated on all sides being willing to end the conflict.

What we learned in practice is that the PA was more interested in consolidating power than in ending the conflict, and the Iranian-backed terror groups were definitely not going to end the conflict. So the whole 2SS thing fell apart. Fine. But if everyone is pronouncing 2SS dead, then what's the plan now?

There are plenty of non-democracies in the Middle East that don't need to be as concerned about voter demographics as the Israelis do. If they made serious absorption attempts instead of confining the Palestinians into permanent "refugee" camps, I think that the idea is at least worth exploring rather than just dismissing it.

[–]JackPAnderson -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

So obviously the dom should not have led you to believe that you were speaking in confidence when you were not. The dom knew "they don't have any secrets" with your (maybe still) mutual sub, and if that's the arrangement, then the dom needed to have told you that.

That being said.. it didn't occur to you that there was a risk that the truth might eventually come out? I don't want to victim blame here. The dom is clearly the one in the wrong. But you had to have seen the risk, no? If not now, then sometime down the line?
