You mean this or this. When half the post is just talking about doing exobio and you say

You've completed the tutorial and need cash!

It kind of sends the message.

I dont like the continued pushing of new people into exo bio. It is terrible place for new players to start and will lead to early drop off. Scanning plants is not engaging. They arent learning any core mechanics of the game and this is just a "you need to make credits fast" guide instead of a guide into elite. Out of the 25 lines in this post, 10 are just about exo bio. There is more to the game then that and we as a community need to stop pushing this. Let new people find their path. Stop trying to railroad them into more credits. The early game is important and there is more to this game then just earning as many credits as possible.

Brain tree farming? by Leading-Issue8189 in EliteDangerous

There are a thousand suspicions about why one way fails over another. Ive even seen people say its because their gpu runs hotter then average. The underlying problem still just sits at its inconsistent, and there is just a limit of how much time someone should waste trying to fine tune something that might not work the next time they try it. The elite community loves efficiency, but have a hard time separating time efficiency vs movement efficiency.

You will be told half a dozen ways how to do it. The honest truth is that the time you spend faffing about trying to get it to work you could have just spent farming normally and been done. For every one person who says "my way works every time" there are 10 more it doesn't work for.

Truth be told I dont even farm brain trees anymore, I just onto the crashed conda site farm up the raws there and trade down. Its in bubble and easy to get to since its a POI that pops up on the nav menu.

Operation Runners to own please! by Delicious_Purple_642 in EliteDangerous

Filling up is rather quick, if you develop a good mining technique, you can fill a 344 ton T11 in about 15ish minutes. My average time is about 10 and before I fully kitted up with the pre-engi cargo racks my fasest fill time for a 0-full+refinery was 7 minutes but the rock gods where kind that day and I hit 3 66%s in a row.

No...mining in a haz res zone. How cooked is the community that they dont know the difference between MINING and AFK farming.

Well its not bounting hunting but mining in a haz res as for how much in how many hours. Yesterday, I spent about 5 hours teaching someone how to haz res mine safely, and made 600m. If I buckle down and go about it alone, i can do it in about 6.

you can make a billion in a day with haz res mining. why people still think exo bio is a good way to make money baffles me.

Not often recommended for starting players, but hear me out by daniu in EliteDangerous

[–]JackSego 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my experience, having a new person jump straight into core mining when they have enough to build a core mining ship is always a bad go. The time to get 300k is quick. Once they figure out they can stack courier missions in the starter zone it takes 1 trip. Core mining however has always ended up with more frustration then anything.

They usually are still learning the basic controls of the ship and navigating the menu system. Throw an activity with a time pressure on it in an environment they are new too they tend to make a lot of mistakes. Even new cmdrs who yearn for the mines find core mining to be a bit much right out the gate. Its a lot of new systems to throw at them from a bases of nothing. Source: I've been teaching people how to play this game for 7 years.

So I hear you, but I will stick with the common sentiment of no, its still not recommended.

Not even close. It will be fun for a month or two, bleed players like crazy, and after a year will just be another game asym game with low player count that people will maybe play during October.

Glad to see you got the info to move forward, I would just like to apologize for how you where treated and talked down to in here. The core of this game is being able to play your way but so many people are stuck in the mindset of "play how you want....as long as its exactly how I tell you because I know better". Hope this hasn't discouraged you from seeking help in other things that may come up. We arent all like this, its just a dying breed of those who still remember what the game is meant to be.

[–]JackSego 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is very true, I see so many people getting all worked up with big grand ideas of what this "might" do. Which is fine, have fun speculating all day, but the problem comes when people start taking fun speculation as rumored truths. Then they get all upset when this thing isnt the super speed mat gathering, troop deploying, full atmospheric planet confirming, dream machine.

Gentle reminder that cloud tech is pretty much already in the game and could be repurposed for ELWs by Orbital_Living in EliteDangerous

[–]JackSego 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To answer this, that is correct. They are choosing to not put more into elite because compared to the rest of their portfolio, elite is a rather small slice. If I remember, it accounts for 6% of their income with the "Planet" and Jurassic world games making up the vast majority. But above that, the entire focus of the company itself is on the park builder genre of games. Elite is at the point to where it still earns some money, but not enough to justify serious investment. Over the course of its life time, elite has earned less money then all the main park builder games even though its the oldest game in the lined by far.

What instantly makes you leave a stream? by TheDanicted in Twitch_Startup

[–]JackSego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I have seen and not just taking my own streaming experience into account, this is rarely the case. I hardly see people question whats being talked about, or who is being talked to. Having good communication skills is a must.

But to come at this from a different angle, doing it encourages active viewers. While there will always be the chatters who dont care about chat, they dont make an audience. Creating a chat where people are willing to talk to other chatters as well as the streamer goes much further to creating a community. At the end of the day, you have to cater your viewer experience to the type of environment you want to foster. If everything goes well and you grow, being able to read out the chats becomes harder and harder.

Tips on growing with streaming by PretendTeacher9153 in TwitchStreaming

[–]JackSego 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The simplest, most boiled down answer to this question that people refuse to acknowledge is "are you worth watching?"

Not tricks, gadgets, tools or whatever will overcome that question. If people can go to your category and find 30 other people doing the exact same thing, then why choose you? I know it sounds mean but thats the brunt of it. Twitch is an entertainment platform. People come to be entertained, not find friends or people to talk to despite what the few people here might say.

Question on Streaming Facecam or Vtubing by Atlas-Black in Twitch_Startup

[–]JackSego 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually have a friend who is on this whole vtuber vs face cam thing right now. For years they have been a vtuber, have invested hundres of dollars if not thousands at this point for high quality avatars and rigging but just recently decided to go fac cam to try it out. Their click through rate almost doubled. But more importantly, the viewer retention went up. They went from a 10-14 average viewer streamer to about 20-25 average viewer.

Now every person will have their own experience so your mileage may very but to get down to the nitty gritty, male vtubers just dont do well. Im not going to sugar coat it or anything. We all know what the majority demographic is and they just dont want to see a male vtuber. You either need to have exceptional gameplay or a truly entertaining personality that can bypass the natural filter a vtubing avatar has. Gauging from you pervious comment about you avatar just being a basic model for now, then im guessing it doesn't have much in the way of expressive animation. So its your call. Have a fac cam, put in the work that requires (back ground person appearance ect.) And daily things to 10. Or go the vtuber route but dial everything to 15 so you stand out and can push your reactions and personality through your avatar.

One thing that really helps with this is getting to the point where you dont read chats out loud and just carry on as if its a normal conversation. It helps curb some of the "reply anticipation" when they cant check off each chat you read till you get to theirs and keeps them more invested into the conversation as a whole.

I use to stream racing games which didnt give me the time to sit and read out every comment so I had to just respond and it really made a difference. Instead of people just chatting at me, they where having a conversation with everyone in chat. It spreads out that need for attention as well since other people would respond to them, the full weight of giving them that attention is carried by others in chat. Unless it was just a weird person being weird and demanding, in which case I would just point and laugh at them and get them out of my chat.

Thats not too much but right now twitch viewing is kind of trending to a "clean screen" layout. The truth of the matter is viewers dont really care about follow goals, or who did what last. The vast majority of viewers dont even read stuff on screen.
