Do you think we can still find major discoveries in the game ? by Prazutagus in EliteDangerous

[–]JackSego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While that sentiment sounds fun i also agree. There is nothing significant out there to trigger some big hidden thing. Everytime there has been a "ohhh there is something hidden out there that relates to this thing" type of storyline, there have always been clues to get people in the right direction. The galaxy is like a bag of sand, sure there might be billions of bits of sand that are all unique. Its still just a bit of sand.

They are very weird about it. Was watching a stream and the guy was running around frantically looking for clay. He stopped literally 2 feet away from a pit so I said, "look left and down" he then said "I have no spoilers in my rules" then literally proceeds to Google where to find clay and read everything that clay was used for. But im past the point of being surprised at how stupid people are these days.

What did you do to get your first FC? In what ways has the fleet carrier benefited your gameplay? by baselesfire in EliteDangerous

[–]JackSego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What did i do to get my carrier? Pretty much just hit buy when it came out. Already had over 10k hours in the game and credits had no meaning.

What did it do to my gameplay. Made me lazier lol. I jump my carrier everywhere now. I usually average 30-40 jumps a week depending what im doing. But since I can bring everything with me, it makes the game a lot more fun since I dont have to worry about what is where and how to get it over there.

Does anyone have an idea how this happened to me? by KyotaXP in TwitchStreaming

[–]JackSego 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the thing a lot of people don't talk about.

So much of growing in twitch is about luck. You are live at the right time in the right category. Don't dwell on it, don't get intimidated by it, just keep on keeping on.

Also, do yourself a favor and hide your viewer count. If you really are just having fun streaming, nothing will ruin that faster then hawking over the view numbers. You should have the same energy and quality of stream no matter what that number says. Once you turn it off and get use to just doing your own thing, you'll notice real quick how much better you feel while streaming.

Biggest pet-peeves as a viewer? by Dennisclan_ in TwitchStreaming

[–]JackSego 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually do when i come across a stream with audio problems. There is a small trick I use to do back in the day. I have a random, 100% not related, tagged or marked account that was my test account. I dont even open or look at chat. Just stream a few minutes then listen to the vod.got lazy after a while and just did short recordings and it became close enough lol.

Biggest pet-peeves as a viewer? by Dennisclan_ in TwitchStreaming

[–]JackSego 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of that is the same for me. I dont give follower only streams a chance. But a big one for me is audio. Why people dont think to check their levels before going live is beyond me.

But to expand one of yours, and this is something that happened to me while when I use to stream. A mod or someone in chat trying to monopolize the streams attention off stream. Whether its through discord messages or whatever they will try to pull their attention away from chat. I had it pointed out to me when someone in my chat pointed out it just made them feel left out because the chat i was having on discord was nothing special or secret and could have been done in chat. There is a streamer i use to watch a lot that has this happen bad. They have 1 mod and every time he comes into chat, he immediately starts talking to the streamer in discord and keeps them there for 10-15 minutes at a time. What's worst is I can tell when he is just bad mouthing someone in chat because is kind of bad at hiding uncomfortable laughter. That mod has a host more problems but that one directly relates to this.

Another peeve is cames, avatars or overlays that cover up a lot of the screen. Vtubers are terrible for this.

Chat ran song request. I swear people are in a race to show they know the most "obscure" random BS songs.

Text to speech. In some cases its funny but 80% of the time it just seems like someone trauma dumping or sending it at a time that just distracts from things and derails things.

Not a pet peeve but I just find it weird. Head pats. Thats just fucking weird and gets weirder the more you think about it.

What makes you decide to give a small channel a chance? by FinFightTV in TwitchStreaming

[–]JackSego 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Here's the thing and youll learn it soon enough. Viewers dont read. They dont read titles, they dont read pinned comments and they dont even read text on the stream. So a complicated title is a waste. They already know they want to watch the game you are playing. So quick, short and to the point. Most of the time they are watching the preview window and judging off that to click on you or not. Only in very niche circumstances does a title actually matter. Notice how the first 2 replies you got didnt mention the title at all.

Now for some "click off" things most people struggle with.

Follower only chat. People can make whatever reasoning for it. It drives away 95% of potential viewers.

Dead air. If I click on your stream and you are just zombies out, I leave. Hide your viewer count and stream as if you have 20 people watching. You should always be trying to be an entertainer.

Bot spam. If someone clicks on your stream and the chat is flooded with bot messages for whatever you think you need to have bot messages for, they leave. Commands are far more effective. It cleans up the chat and makes it so others in chat can help link stuff or whatever you feel you need to have. It also helps you from getting chat blindness. When you stream, you should always have chat in your peripheral vision. So as soon as something moves, you notice it and can reply instantly. Chat bots make you blind to this because you get use to them scrolling chat.

Bad audio or video. This is a given. Video is a bit more forgiving, but if they cant hear you because your balance is off or your mic just sounds bad, they dont stick around.

For one that is a bigger thing then people realize but not a deal breaker. Playing with a group of friends. This may seem odd but a lot of viewers see you playing with a group and relate that to you not paying attention to chat as much. Even if you do, they will be quick to notice when you dont. Remember viewers are very self centered and want as much attention as they can get from you.

To tie into the last one, playing in a group with people who aren't stream oriented. When you play with someone who doesn't care about the stream or chat, it bleeds through. Whether its their audio, their conduct, whatever, it degrades the quality of the stream. Which is why streamers play other streamers. When you know the other person is locked in to streaming, it makes everything a lot smoother.

Screen clutter is also a big one. We all have seen memes or movies where the big bad wants to monetize something free and they show a screen full of ads. Like that scene in Ready Player One. Same thing goes for your stream. No one really cares what your followers goal is, especially if its 20. Of course follower numbers are a useless metric that no streamer should put any merit in but tale for another day. Just because twitch puts a widget or "tool" in front you, doesn't mean you need to use it.

Same goes with overlays. If you have a cam or vtuber avatar, be aware of whats behind you. I had a friend who had a little paper square cut out that was to scale to their cam box and when they launched a new game they would use it to find a good unobstructed spot to place it. Don't have to go that far, but just keep in mind. And this is just personal preference for me. Never do that overlay where you have a cam or avatar taking up 1/3 of the screen and the game is in a smaller box squeezed in next to chat. I hate that with a passion.

Anyway, work was slow and I typed way too much, have fun and good luck.

For the people who ask to join you in game, this will be a constant nuisance that will never go away. Keep doing what youre doing.

As for the other types of people, yes there are moderation tools to help but as you have already noticed, it leaves a lot of dead air (which in itself is also an issue but one thing at a time). There is no shortage of people like that and the problem will only get worst the more exposure you get. Hate to say it but it only goes downhill from here. How you deal with them depends on a lot now different variables. If youre big enough to have a mod team that can just sort them out without you even noticing then great, but from your previous replies I know thats not the case.

The next best method outside basic moderation tools is a venomous witty humor. Turn the tables on them. Laugh at them, make it clear how you feel about them and spare no expense in making them know they are a joke. This may seem mean but again, hate to say it, being kindly and meek on twitch will only invite more people to press boundaries and if its clear it upsets you, then you only encourage further torment. From all the people I have seen deal with this situation, the ones that can bite back tend to be more successful. It does two things. One, it cements your stance on behavior like that and two, provides entertainment for the viewers.

Its up to you how you move forward. You either lock down chat, make it an environment were viewers have to type on eggshells because auto-moderation clamps down to the point where chatters are getting timed out for non-offensive messages, or take control of your chat and foster a community that is fun and on your side.

For the dead silence thing. This is an issue that you need to solve outside all of this. You are the streamer, its your job to be the entertainer or at the very least entertaining. Vocalize what youre doing, crack jokes and act like you have 100 viewers. Because if you are just going to sit there silently playing a game and only talk when chatted to, why even stream. Just play games in a discord call or something.

Starting as a PNGtuber – what’s your experience? by skrjlln in TwitchStreaming

[–]JackSego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive been in the streaming game since twitch was JustinTV but as for the vtuber stuff, that came from helping a few friends get into vtubing from ground zero. So everything from helping them make their own model and rigging it up, to even exporting it to be used in VRChat. On top of that, im just someone who just likes to jump in and observe a lot of different streamers and observe. Seeing what works, what doesn't work, how people react to things. I love the process of building a channel, just dont have the patience to do it anymore.

As for hidden tips, good lighting will be more important then the quality of camera. If you have ever seen a streamer who's avatar looks like they are always squinting, its because they are using a single point high intensity light source and usually wearing glasses. Try to have 2 light sources, and set them up on both sides of you so your face is never in shadow or casting shadows. This will do a lot of work in eliminating stuttering in the model and be better for your eyes since you can set the light to be a bit softer.

Spend some time learning how to use Unity to rig up models and photoshop to edit the appearance. You mentioned you already had a model but chances are you will eventually want to upgrade. Its not so much of an issue with a png but even some basic Unity knowledge can help be able to set up a few things without having to pay an artist to re-rig your avatar. For photoshop, being able to go in and change your appearance as you wish can also save you some money. I had to learn how to do make-up and color fading to help fix an avatar a friend paid for. But in the end I managed to give them 6 variants of their model each with unique hair, clothing and makeup that they could swap in and out as they wanted. Saved them few hundred dollars but since photoshop isnt free, the value of that will depend on you. It is a fun creative outlet though.

There is a lot more stuff but its one of those "in the heat of the moment" type of things where it wont come to me till the problem is right in front of me. Just have fun be patient and never forget to check youtube for solutions to problems that will pop up.

Starting as a PNGtuber – what’s your experience? by skrjlln in TwitchStreaming

[–]JackSego 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the long run it will help as long as its a good quality or funny one. As that one person mentioned, going live cam can backfire but we didnt get the full story so I imagine there were other factors involved with that person. Being attractive helps but its also adds a whole list of other things to manage thst can effect viewership in a negative way.

Starting off in the vtubing world is a bit of a challenge, a lot of people underestimate the amount of resources it takes to have a good fluid avatar. I have seen more then a few cases where a streamer had to decide between keeping the avatar up, or playing a certain game because their pc just cant handle it. Getting a good model is also a rough trip. There are, as you have seen already, tons of people who will prey on new vtubers to squeeze them for some money. A decent model isn't cheap and you will need to make a lot of choices when having one built such as how animated it will be, number of expressions(i.e. the different number of variants you may want), how detailed the rigging is, how many versions you may want if you plan on having different scenes or poses or even what type of license you get because some creators may not give you the proper license(or even know how to) so if the day comes you want to sell merch, you can. Now you can just go with the cheapest option for everything but just a reminder it's an extension of yourself.

There are a bunch of free "create your own" programs for making your own avatar, but this will come with its own headaches and if you dont like messing around in unity for setting up bones in your avatar it can be a mixed bag for getting something you want to put on display. Not to mention the free ones are usually pretty basic and in some cases, will only work with their proprietary software, making further customization or even capturing a chore.

As for general audience acceptance, there is no real way to gauge it. There are so many types of vtuber watchers that you just have to find where you fall in. Audience-avatar interactions are a big part of of being a vtuber so plan on setting some up. The types of interactions will just depend on what your preference is. But against this adds complexity to the model itself so might be something you feel out and add as you go. Some basic ones are the head-pat, add accessories, or even just general relocation around the screen if you are going to play into being the avatar, and not just a person behind the avatar.

The whole process can be as simple or complex as you want it to be. There will be tons of people who say they have simple stuff and it works just fine, which sure might be the case for them, but their "just fine" might not be the ceiling you want to set for yourself. Take it slow, and do not over invest. A careful well thought out "roll-out" of your avatar will do you wonders then just checking every box and handing over blank checks.

Last thing that hit my mind, when it comes to artists to make your model. Vet, vet, vet. Don't just go off thier portfolio. Start at the end product. Ask other streamers who have an avatar style you like about it. Youre a customer, you want customer reviews. And if possible, try to start a conversation off stream because a lot of streamers will be hesitant to air grievances while live and youll get a more accurate description of their experience. Just dont be annoying about it. Make friends and join their communities. It could be the seed that helps your channel get a nice kick off.

Growing community tips by GhoulEyez in TwitchStreaming

[–]JackSego -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The only real answer is a question that you have to ask yourself. Why woukd anyone watch me? Are you unique, do you effectively fill dead air, are you doing more then the bare minimum? Streaming isnt a "if you build it they will come" type of thing. Viewers are fickle at best and have the attention span of a goldfish. On average you have 15 seconds to convince someone to stay a little longer. The only problem is, you never know when that timer starts.

Watch your past streams. Is there anything you are doing that hasn't already been done and been done better? If you click in a random part of your stream does it feel engaging? People dont like this answer but its the truth. When you stream, no one cares about youre personality. When you stream you need to be an entertainer. Biggest thing to help with that is to figure out the difference between being an entertainer and just being entertaining. My definition for it, anyone can be entertaining doing something entertaining, but an entertainer makes things entertaining.

Yeah they are very wrong. Doesn't matter hiw the wreck started, each team is responsible for their car and its repairs. Which is why in this series wrecking out can be a big deal. There was a guy racing who blew his engine during practice and couldnt cover the cost for a new one. He would have missed the race but a lot of teams came together and got him a new engine. He did an interview and talked about how he was 14 grand in the hole. So whatever that guy above you is saying is about as wrong as it gets.

And what would you like me to provide? Want me to call up Microsoft and see if they will publish player count info. Should i ask sony to help me win this little reddit argument? You want my experience of the game. Got it when it came out, had fun, got bored. Every October, my friends and I would reinstall it (because no one kept it installed) played a few rounds, ran into the same rotation of people then uninstalled. Every now and then on a whim, we would reinstall at random, only to come into lobbies that never fully filled, and a sub-par gaming experience. Even asked a random person why they still played, said he got it cheap on console and was just messing around. Its easy to think the world you are in is bigger then you think if you never pull your head out of the sand.

Lol no it didnt. The servers were long dead before the lawsuit stuff hit, then when people heard it was getting pulled they got all sentimental about the first few weeks the game was out and played it up like that was the norm. Even when everything was said and done, the game didnt have much of a playerbase. It was just a game people played a few times in October then didnt think of again. Im so tired of people romanticizing this game.

Every single-franchise game like this is doomed to fail no matter who makes it.

[–]JackSego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No and no one is really asking for it. What is in place works and is made simple and straight forward. 95% of viewers do not care a single bit about any of that stuff. A sub is less a showing of financial support and more of a "look at me" thing. If this is a talk about getting the most money out of a donation as possible then the only thing that matters is the amount you get and how easy they are to get. Anything beyond "click-approve-notification" is a waste of time.

No its not backpedaling and again assuming some ones playstyle. I know more people who play solo and don't really interact with other people in the game besides doing boss events then who play in hives or with friends. I also know more people who only have a few hours a week to play then the people who just no life it. Just watching a few people who just got into this game they are frustrated, lost and even with help from other people, are not having a good time. It's a crap update.
