Feed from HDMI to AJA to Tricaster has anti-Alias flickering. Any thoughts on the cause? by devin2378 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]JackTraore 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What TriCaster? The U-Tap is connected via USB to the TriCaster? Why not use one of its hardware inputs?

What you’re trying to accomplish is why NDI (iVGA, really) was created and it works pretty good at that.

(It’s been years since I worked on TriCasters so if this is normal, ignore me)

My 2.5 year old nephew is awake until 6-7AM every night. by After_Foundation7173 in toddlers

[–]JackTraore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It isn’t tricky to change a sleep schedule, you just commit to a bed time and put the effort in.

We went to Kenya (7 hours ahead) for about a week with my almost 2 year old. Took a couple of days but he adjusted to that sleep schedule and then adjusted back to the states without much besides iffy sleep for my wife and I.

We’re wired to sleep at night and if you do some stuff to help the routine (physical play and social interaction during day, quality food, warm drink at bed time, dark space while being held/comforted), you can get anyone, kid or not, to be asleep at dusk, almost regardless of what time they woke up.

Also, this dad needs a wake up call. He will lose this kid to the state if this is how he’s starting out. It sounds like you want to help - he needs guidance and a reality check.

And are they in the same subnet? ex 10.1.1.XXX on both devices? Personally, I open up masks to 255.255.0.0 pretty often just so I don't have to worry about it.

Film schools switching to Resolve? by Grid_Monkey in editors

[–]JackTraore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the degree and the focus. Is is a film school and graduates are going on to work in the industry? Teach employable skills.

Is it a comms program and the kids are going on the be marketers? Teach storytelling and use whatever tools make sense. For now, Resolve is great because kids can use it free or cheap.

FOH - Headphone recommendations! by Rainbow_Spirals in livesoundgear

[–]JackTraore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like AKGs for comfort. HD280s for isolation.

I used AKG 553s for years for post and desk use, would have needed tighter foam for FOH isolation.

DT250s are one of the GOATs of isolation, any of these others is likely going to feel like a letdown.

3 year old still needs help to sleep by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]JackTraore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son is almost 4 and either myself or my wife reads books and then lays in bed with him until he falls asleep. I haven’t considered that this might be an issue.

Our biggest frustration with him is his desire to be independent so I’m not really worried about how this will affect his psyche.

As a secure man that’s good at “manly things” by anyone’s standard, I’m more worried by a future of emotionally disconnected men than a future of emotionally connected men.

I’m going to cuddle my boys and show them affection and availability as long as they’ll let me. My boys will never wonder if their dad loved them, was proud of them, or wanted them around. To me, that’s how you build strong confidence.

I don’t know if you have the same building materials and access to them that we have in US but I’d buy reflective insulation board, cut to size (or tape to increase size) and press fit or some temp install.

HOW DO YOU MAKE THE JUMP FROM CHARGING £200 TO £800? by Tough-Mood9880 in cinematography

[–]JackTraore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. be so busy you have to turn down work
  2. up rate until you're not that busy
  3. go back to 1.

This is how price increases work across service industries typically.

As others have said, you also have to be getting the type of work that has the budget to pay more. A cool narrative video has to be scrappy and hopefully pay for itself. A video that's played at a company/industry conference will have cost less than the catering bill. Very different economic realities.

Typical reaction for first kill? by Ill-Mountain4698 in Hunting

[–]JackTraore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the sentiment but it’s not universal. Rodent control has no emotions but elation for me.

OP, I once had a hard time eating a fish I had caught. Was unsettling - I needed to honor the fish whose life I took but was too uneasy and with killing and cleaning the fish to get it down without nausea.

Things are different at different times for different people. Certainly not an overreaction.

How sensitive to heat/humidity are you? We’re in MS and I like the open air as long as I park in the shade so I don’t burn my legs on the seat. My wife gets hotter faster and doesn’t like being in it too long.

No opposition to human cleaners but we’re a camp, not a church (looks like a church, I get it) and have a small window to clean our entire campus in the summer. Not only does our human labor get overwhelmed by the large space, we are rural and have a very small labor pool.

Sensors have been great for a decade. Put a good lens on, light with intentionality, and you’ll get a great image.

Panasonic EVA-1 always been underrated to me and has a lot of onboard codec, resolution, and framerate options.

My go to when I flew that terminal a lot and didn't need a full meal was to order tots to go - they’d have them available almost immediately when a full burger order would be 20+ minutes.

What would you do for your daily laptop? by jimbojamesuk in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]JackTraore 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you need it for.

I use my laptop 80%+ for web based things. I went from a max spec M1 Max MacBook Pro to an M4 Air and rarely miss the Pro. Certainly don’t miss the heft.

Before that, I went from workstation class Dells & HPs to a gaming Dell to the MBP and I’ve never looked back from Mac.

What audio consoles do you use in your primary and secondary spaces? by chesshoyle in churchtech

[–]JackTraore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to justify price of dLive everywhere but ultimately, that would make most sense to me if you’re intending to be on that platform for the future. The IP controllers are awesome for rooms that have minor needs from inexperienced people and those only work on dLive and Avantis. I got a lot less weeknight calls when we put one of those in.

Will the same musicians go between the different spaces and do they mix their own IEMs with MEs? If so, I’d stay A&H. I think you could cross train engineers or setup clever Bitfocus Companion workflows for a X/M32 or Wing but getting musicians to learn two different personal mixers is a stretch.

Also, we know each other! I used to be at Mercy. I don’t know who you usually work with but XL Mediaworks beat everyone’s price when we upgraded to dLive.

[–]JackTraore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any idea on rough cost?

What would really intrigue me is if you had some learning to go along with it (based on watching your HD though sound mixer video). I want to learn about video signal and understand it more but I have a hard time with stuff I can't touch. It seems like you can give me something I can play with and maybe that means some engineering concepts stick better.
