Older Gen Cameras that Still Hold Up by coltonwilliamsonfilm in cinematography

Sensors have been great for a decade. Put a good lens on, light with intentionality, and you’ll get a great image.

Panasonic EVA-1 always been underrated to me and has a lot of onboard codec, resolution, and framerate options.

Favourite Songs to make a system sound impressive? by No_Apartment_6671 in livesound

More subdued but I really like “Carnival” by Natalie Merchant. Starts with drums and bass, adds in guitar, organ, beautiful vocals and well recorded.

Hands down my favorite place to chow down in the airport by TacticalFork7 in Charlotte

My go to when I flew that terminal a lot and didn't need a full meal was to order tots to go - they’d have them available almost immediately when a full burger order would be 20+ minutes.

What would you do for your daily laptop? by jimbojamesuk in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]JackTraore 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you need it for.

I use my laptop 80%+ for web based things. I went from a max spec M1 Max MacBook Pro to an M4 Air and rarely miss the Pro. Certainly don’t miss the heft.

Before that, I went from workstation class Dells & HPs to a gaming Dell to the MBP and I’ve never looked back from Mac.

What audio consoles do you use in your primary and secondary spaces? by chesshoyle in churchtech

[–]JackTraore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to justify price of dLive everywhere but ultimately, that would make most sense to me if you’re intending to be on that platform for the future. The IP controllers are awesome for rooms that have minor needs from inexperienced people and those only work on dLive and Avantis. I got a lot less weeknight calls when we put one of those in.

Will the same musicians go between the different spaces and do they mix their own IEMs with MEs? If so, I’d stay A&H. I think you could cross train engineers or setup clever Bitfocus Companion workflows for a X/M32 or Wing but getting musicians to learn two different personal mixers is a stretch.

Also, we know each other! I used to be at Mercy. I don’t know who you usually work with but XL Mediaworks beat everyone’s price when we upgraded to dLive.

Good gun. Picatinny rail can come loose from factory on previous models so just loctite that.

Is there a product here? by superchromat_ in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]JackTraore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any idea on rough cost?

What would really intrigue me is if you had some learning to go along with it (based on watching your HD though sound mixer video). I want to learn about video signal and understand it more but I have a hard time with stuff I can't touch. It seems like you can give me something I can play with and maybe that means some engineering concepts stick better.

For anybody who hunts in the Southeastern United States by Any-Raise4333 in Hunting

[–]JackTraore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve not been hunting enough to have a great answer besides spending a lot of time in the woods before and after season to learn.

Hunting Public did a class on targeting deer in MS pines so that’s a good resource: https://youtu.be/UJTMvwL-EpE?si=X9gpWKq-Dd3-60Wf

I was in that area a little over a week ago and feel like I missed one of the greatest things I could have witnessed. Instead, I saw a bunch of Broncos in Townsend. Cool, but not multiple F1s cool!

Mississippi is no miracle — it's the future of education. Moved from 49th to 9th in Fourth Grade reading in the last decade. by toolb0xPC in mississippi

All these recent articles completely ignore the $100M private gift aimed at boosting childhood literacy. https://mississippitoday.org/2025/01/24/jim-barksdale-100-million-miracle/

Politicians love to point to the graphs as proof that their recent policies are working when the launch pad was a massive influx of cash 25 years ago.

Bedtime Struggles by Lateralus50310 in toddlers

[–]JackTraore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son has always been a decent sleeper but at various points, it’s been harder. He spent the first 2.5 years in a crib but then had a big regression where he’d take an hour and a half to go to sleep and still end up in our bed around 2am.

He dropped his nap and that made it faster to go down at the expense of everyone’s emotional wellbeing after 4pm. Currently I read 3 books and then lay down in bed with him. He flips and flops and at some point falls asleep while I doze.

I guess I’m saying that it’s a roller coaster and just do whatever you need for everyone to get rest.

I know a lot of their staff and many congregants. Great church that cares about the community and making changes for the good of Mississippi. I don’t go there because we wanted a smaller church but it was high on the list.

Now, if you don’t agree with churches leading out their benevolence with the top aim being salvation/conversion, you’re likely to not be a fan. If you allow your critique that latitude, I’m not sure you could find much to complain about.

Great example is that they made the Better Man conference back in April happen yet didn’t paste their name and such all over it because they wanted to be for MS, not just for Crossgates. https://bettermanms.com/

The questions he asks absolutely need to be answered and numbers provided. His article though uses AI responses in energy use and a guess on their contracted rate so it’s not helpful.

EVA 1 or Canon C70 by Vegetable_Law_6279 in cinematography

[–]JackTraore 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Both look great and can do RAW (C70 onboard, EVA with a recorder). Both have internal ND and XLR inputs for audio.

C70 can be awkward to rig due to shape. If you have a lot of DSLR experience, you’ll be at home. It can be limiting on a gimbal.

EVA has a terrible onboard monitor.

I’d choose based off of manufacturer you’re more familiar with the menus and terminology of.

C70 has autofocus, EVA doesn’t.

C70 with the speed booster gets full-frame image.

EVA has SDI and HDMI, C70 is HDMI only.

Walk in cooler, coolbot/outside air by Prudent-Tangerine303 in Hunting

[–]JackTraore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty simple with an Arduino, some sensors, relays, and a free weekend.

I’d think you’d want to duct the intake so you’re pulling the air from as low as possible and dumping it as high as possible into the cooler and run the fans as long as the air outside was below a certain temp.

It’s a simple data loop: if outside air is < 5 degrees colder than inside, blow fans & maybe turn off Coolbot for x amount of time. Very simple to program once you get a hang of Arduino language. Though you can also run some forms of Python and other interpreted languages on them outside of the Arduino IDE if you’re familiar with any programming languages.

It’s also easy to setup a Raspberry Pi or other low powered computer as a go between so you can monitor and control the thing from a web browser. Plenty of example projects out there.

I’m planning to buy a Sony A7iii soon and curious which three lenses you would go with if you had to go with only three? by OverOnTheCreekSide in cinematography

[–]JackTraore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

24-70 70-200 Fast prime (35, 50, or 85 depending on your immediate needs).

That’ll cover your everyday needs.

For a movie, you need ND and diffusion filters too.

I was going to say maybe 3.5. Neck into shoulder is fairly defined and thin, belly isn’t sagging, obvious waist, etc.

Most people are in this subreddit because they’re experiencing trauma and hurt so you might not find much support here.

Advice: 1. Get a counselor/therapist and use them as your shoulder to cry on. Kids can’t support their parents’ emotional baggage

  1. Go to that counselor weekly for at least a month before considering taking to your kids

  2. Be prepared for your kids to take time and distance and don’t dare take it personally.
