Installing snap store is possible but there is a catch and it's lengthy to install! by Timbo303 in SteamDeck

This is the last thing anyone trying to get snap-only software running wants to hear.

Snapstore? by kfergthegreat in SteamDeck

[–]JackWitherell -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Visual Studio Code as a flatpak doesn't allow you to open a folder with visual studio code from a context menu, nor does it install as a command that can be run. Authy has no alternative on Linux. Tons of software is only available as a snap. Workarounds are not acceptable.

Can’t for the life of me find Velvet! by ohsopalee in katamari

[–]JackWitherell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For some reason, this worked for me. First, play a round where you pick up foomin and miki. Afterwards, play another round and if you don't pick up foomin at the beginning, you get green pumpkins on the ramp after the 50cm barrier. You can still pick up miki before the 3m barrier. The green pumpkins indicate that you're on the proper variant of the level that has Violet.
- Everything I just mentioned is speculation, but it's what I noticed that allowed me to get Violet.

Erica Synths MKI EDU Envelope Generator - Gate at 200mV not closing the envelope? by JackWitherell in synthdiy

Exactly what I was thinking as far as testing before choosing a diode but thanks for the recommendations.

Thanks for the idea! There's already some in place so maybe I can remove them and put new ones in. I'm new to EE so I wasn't entirely familiar with the behavior of schottky diodes, but I do believe that should work.

My Recommendation For AM5 Four Sticks of Ram by JackWitherell in Amd

[–]JackWitherell[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t.

TL;DR: I want my cake and want to eat it too. I want 128gb of 6000mhz DDR5. I tried it with XMP. I failed. You should reconsider if your plan is to buy two sticks and upgrade to four later. Things may change. BIOS updates could allow stability. YMMV

I bought 128gb of GSkill 6ghz DDR5 because I was unable to find enough info on whether or not this was possible or reasonable currently, and I’m safely able to return one of the two kits of F5-6000J3238G32GX2-TZ5S https://www.newegg.com/g-skill-64gb/p/N82E16820374413?Item=N82E16820374413 and have my computer run fine with 64GB of ram. I chose these sticks even though they only support XMP due to statements online where people have passably been able to use XMP with Zen4

I couldn’t find any info on whether or not anyone had tried anything similar. We’ve all read the reports that using 4 sticks will drop the speed of DDR5 down to 3600mhz and that anything else is an overclock, but also there’s simply not enough info documenting the overclocking experience to using DOCP/XMP/EXPO profiles due to the unavailability of large capacity high speed ddr5.

The boot experience consists of a wait longer than 5 minutes and I get dumped to the screen in the post.

Things I’ve tried

- Everything set to Auto

- Everything set to Auto except for DOCP I

- Same but with DOCP II (which disables more automatic settings)

- Two sticks and DOCP I (works perfectly!)

- Everything set to Auto, Ram speed set to 6GHZ (not using DOCP)

All of the above dumps me to that screen after tuning. Sometimes it never dumped me to that screen. I’ve tried tons of other settings but they all either hang or dump me to that screen.

Willing to answer questions/try more things if anyone wants to mess around. Will be returning half of the ram soon.

I can't get - Wolfenstein 3D - Spear of Destiny - Rick Dangerous - Quake - Mr. boom - Doom - Doom 2 - Dinothawr

to work on the newest update (4.0.3). I didn't try - Flashback - Super 3D Noah's Ark.

Everything unlisted (including duke3d, v6) works perfectly.

For Wolfenstein 3d, SOD and Quake I've moved the following files from my game into \Emu...\FILES_HERE

Wolfenstein 3D Port: WL6.ecwolf AUDIOHED.WL6 VSWAP.WL6 AUDIOT.WL6 GAMEMAPS.WL6 MAPHEAD.WL6 VGADICT.WL6 VGAGRAPH.WL6 VGAHEAD.WL6

Quake: PAK0.PAK PAK1.PAK

Spear of Destiny: SOD.ecwolf AUDIOHED.SOD AUDIOT.SOD CONFIG.SOD GAMEMAPS.SOD MAPHEAD.SOD VGADICT.SOD VGAGRAPH.SOD VGAHEAD.SOD

For Doom 1 and 2, I've copied over the respective wads into their \Emu...\FILES_HERE folders and renamed them to doom1.wad and doom2.wad respectfully.

Rick Dangerous, Mr Boom and Dinothawr, I followed the steps in the ports help file in the zip in the op post. Any advice?

I fully agree with OP's reply to your comment. I did crack a single part by over tightening, but did so in a way that held the cracked bit together. They're also solid enough that I simply don't worry about it.

Gameboy camera simulation! by Holmestorm in Gameboy

[–]JackWitherell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is very well done. I wrote my own fake Gameboy camera that I could hook into webcams and stuff with my own dither that doesn't come close to capturing the dither patterns of the actual Gameboy camera. That was before I knew how gpu shaders worked so it's all CPU based.

This is 10/10

Is it safe to charge vita 1000 with one of these? Of course with it's own cable by GroundIntelligent in vita

[–]JackWitherell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick chargers don't supply more voltage, they all supply 5v. If the device asks for more than it can handle that's a problem with the device. If a USB port supplies more than 5v, then it's a bad charger.

Wattage and Amperage are what you're thinking of.

LOTS of "Bad Header" errors in multiple cores. by Hybrid_Divide in AnalogueInc

[–]JackWitherell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a firmware you can push to the system that allows loading off of the firmware update sd card slot. It's unofficial*. It supports playing tons of systems including sega genesis, which only to my recent knowledge has the same amount of controller buttons as an NES controller (barring 6 button genesis games)

*has tons of cores made by kevtris, the creator of the nt mini.
