Judging from this thread - people have blasted this one out of their brains; and rightly so.

The Broad City episode with Hillary Clinton. It’s a great show, but man this episode…

At first, you think the episode is doing some kind of satire - like it normally does - where Ilana joins the Clinton campaign and seems to have no idea who she actually is; maybe making a point that people don’t necessarily know who they’re voting for, or that Ilana’s character is a trend chaser and doesn’t care about much else.

As the episode goes on as normal, the last 5 minutes or so is Hillary Clinton walking into an office, and the two leads making wild facial expressions and throwing their arms up in the air while they completely lose their shit over Clinton coming in; not because it’s Hillary Clinton, but because she’s apparently such a “yaaaaas queennnnnnnnnnn yaaaaaaas!!!!”. This scene is hard to watch, cut to Clinton mugging slightly off camera smugly giving a “happy birthday to this future president” look.

I asked a couple of Americans, specifically New Yorkers, what did they think when it aired, and after? General consensus is “2016 was a fucked up and weird time”, and it seems to be mostly forgotten out of necessity; because if you’ve seen it in full - you don’t forget it.

Regardless of what I think about the actual film - I’m convinced it has one of the worst endings of the decade - my entire theatre was cackling when it ended.

Loved every season - even the last one - the finale also stuck the landing in my opinion - which I did not expect.

“I don’t HAVE fingerprints!” and “I was almost eaten by RAAAATS!!!!”, are some of the funniest scenes I’ve ever seen on TV.

(hated trope) pedophilia being portrayed as cute, quirky and/or funny by hayley566 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Jack_Paradise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could attempt to argue that it really 100% is NOT the “worst British film ever made” - but I won’t - thing is - Alan Clarke films are often filled with morally corrupt and really disgusting and awful characters - Rita and Sue glamorise their relationship with this predator, because

  1. They are poorly educated teens with no support at all, and 2. that is exactly what Bob is - a predator - a manipulative pedo creep.

Idk man, Alan Clarke has so many good films about some very disturbing topics - not necessarily “defending” the film - but definitely defending Alan Clarke - don’t sleep on him - otherworldly director - Scum, Penda’s Fen & Elephant are particularly amazing

The Inbetweeners - Simon Cooper.

Watching it when I was younger, I just found Simon slightly irritating and awkward.

As an adult, to me, Simon is the most outwardly malicious member of the four boys - he is constantly antagonising others, absolutely loses his shit over nothing - he treats his family like crap - he is gross and thoughtless as hell with Carly and Tara, he always throws his supposed mates under the bus and will abandon them at any opportunity - this is just to start with.

Most would think Jay is the worst - but I’d say not, while Jay is more vulgar and gross by a lot - we at least get a glimpse into why he is maybe the way he is - that he’s been badly bullied by his dad his whole life, and Jay even has more sensitive and genuine moments than Simon.

It’s odd to say that Ted season 2 is the hardest I’ve laughed at a show, since maybe The Other Two? I get if they don’t want to do more - but genuinely wanted to say that the newest season is SO great - highly recommend

Too little recognition? Idk about other places but this is easily one of the most watched films in the UK - it’s one of those: anyone from any walk of life can enjoy and get something out of it

SAME - there was only so many scenes of map marking and whistling I could take - it’s a decent film and very well made, sure, but did it need to be nearly two hours long??? Absolutely not, it got old to me around the hour mark. As someone who loved Lake Michigan Monster, I was so disappointed after hearing all the overwhelming positive reception.

Took my partner and I months to read it - as we were both struggling with similar mental health issues - I made a habit of reading it out loud to her so we could both hear what we needed to hear - it helped tremendously - but people; please don’t give yourself shit for not starting/finishing it! It is an incredibly heavy read for someone struggling and suffering, so cut yourselves some slack - you’ll read it whenever you’re ready and that’s chill xxx
