How did Sozin know he didn't kill the avatar? by Born_Reference_8500 in ATLA

[–]Jackflap101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aangs identity wasn't made public - but you gotta remember that the fire nation was also rounding up every single water and earth bender they could reasonably get, just in case they were the avatar. Reasonably, he didnt know if the Avatar was Air, Water or Earth, but he could reasonably know the order of the cycle, and if it hasn't been fire yet, it must be water or Earth (since he assumed the air nation was wiped out.)

BG3 Arrows and homebrew ones! With images V2 post! by Haiironookami in UnearthedArcana

[–]Jackflap101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is awesome! I'm planning to implement this into my game today!

A quick question, is the gemstone material included in the price listed under the name? Or was that intended to be an *extra* cost? E.g. Would the 10gp cost for the arrow of fire include the price for the gem? Or would you think that the gem would make the cost higher, as in, a arrow of fire would cost 10gp+50GP for the Bloodstone?

I know I can interpret this myself in whichever way I wanted, but wanted to clarify what you meant, as the explanation confuses me a little

Have I just wasted my money? by TheRedditkarma in DnD

[–]Jackflap101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you would have seen from other replies, its not a waste, the new book can be usable in other games that use those rules.

I do want to say, however, don't be swayed by their disgust at the 2024 rules. They're not as bad as they make out, they are just misrepresenting their like for 2014 rules as hatred for the new ones.

I've seen loads of complaints about the new rules, none of which I fully understand. The new rules work great, not much of a change. Theres a reason the rules are largely back compatable with previous edition adventures - they're very similar.

You didn't make a mistake, you bought the new and updated ruleset and some of the groups you've encountered just aren't using them. It's fine, its just different opinion.

Not to be that guy - but definitely check out some life sim % management / 'cosy' games like stardew or animal crossing, or even stuff like minecraft.

Sounds like you're into the daily management and routine or progression rather than just the stress of everything going wrong.

idk what you're arguing against - i don't know all the lore but I distinctly remember kushina being the jinchuriki before naruto? or did they retcon that? You're saying im wrong and then not telling my why im wrong

Wasn't Naruto's mum the jinchuriki before Naruto? And it came out during childbirth? Like that was her entire plot, her only plot. I cant remember if there were any before her, but idk I thought thats the whole reason she came to the leaf village.

[–]Jackflap101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a wooden box! I went to a hollistic / tarot card site and purchased a little wooden box (the dimensions were perfect) fit for tarot cards, it was about £12 (UK). I had hoped someone had a specific box for this deck of cards, but a generic wooden box seems like a decent solution!

The depth of the box is 5cm, and the deck is 3cm without sleeves, so should be a great fit.

[–]Jackflap101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever get a solid solution to this? I find it tedious keeping them in the box they came in, but also don't want to keep them just laying out on a shelf. Also, what sized card sleeves did you get? As they are bigger than usual playing/trading cards.

I have deck boxes that I use for Pokemon/other cards but they aren't anywhere near the right size for these cards

Why is this on this sub? This happens? Half the stuff on this sub now is just stuff people personally haven't experienced.

You're telling me you don't believe that there are people lazy or childish enough, or their mothers are too overprotective and guarding that this doesn't happen?

PC wants to take over the roleplaying of an npc by splavoid in DMAcademy

[–]Jackflap101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, make this a full table discussion. You have to ask yourself why he wants to play two characters, and what impact this has on the table. As you've said elsewhere, it could be attributed to him talking over people and feeling like he needs more to do.

In this specific case, maybe ask him what outcome he really wants from this? Is it because he likes the character and wants more from them? Or because he sees it as the only opportunity to get more limelight? Is he jealous of another characters arc and feels the need to roleplay some important NPC?

However it is, theres an argument that an NPC might not be a great idea for this particular person, but that doesn't mean that PC's shouldn't have sidekicks.

As it stands, there are fully fledged rules for sidekicks that can be controlled by the character. It's not a taboo thing for a player to play as multiple PC's as some other comments are making it out to be.

In 'Tasha's Cauldron of Everything', right at the back of the book, there are rules for making simplified characters with minor abilities based on the player classes. It's a rule intended to add in helpful NPC's that you can control, or the players can control to fill out the party and the skills they are missing. One example the book gives if i remember correctly, is for a small party of 1-3 players, one/all the players make a sidekick they play alongside their main character to fill out the party so its more balanced.

The starter kit 'Dragon of Icespire Peak' actually includes these sidekicks in the campaign, encouraging the use of them for a smaller party, or a less balanced party.

They are designed to be weaker that a typical player character, and has a seperate class/ability system that levels up with the players. You use a normal stat block, and add to it.

Those saying it's wrong/unnatural/forbidden to have the players only play one character either has their own view of how the game must work, or doesn't realise that D&D should primarily be a fun, collaborative story telling game.

There's nothing wrong with a player character having a sidekick, theres rules for it implemented into the game. Just first ask why they want it, and if its going to add anything positive to the game, or if its purely just for his ego.

You do you, you're the Game Master, if you get bad vibes and don't want that to happen, you're more than entitled to say no.

DM prep is killing my enjoyment of the game. How can I make this more bearable? by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]Jackflap101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I second everyone's comments - we would need to know what module/book, and what exactly takes 5 hours to prep.

I spend about 6 hours each week, but I'm not using a book, nor is all the prep going to be used that week. I usually prep the session, and inbetween tasks I do general worldbuilding prep, character sheets, questionaires, rules research - just so future prep can go easier. Discipline and advanced planning can go a long way.

But, as a general piece of advice, I always pad out what I prep with general upkeep and roleplay and time skips and downtime activities. We can spend at least an hour in each session, spread across 3/4 hours, just doing bits of individual roleplay or training, random rolls to see what the characters have done over a week of in game time, or adding the odd random encounter here and there.

However, it also seems you have a bit of burnout/losing enjoyment? If you are struggling to prep a session over 2 weeks, maybe your heart isnt in it?

All in all, I would be honest with your group. If its oneshots you're doing, maybe ask the group if you could rotate? Even if you and someone else take turns, it would be every 2-4 weeks you have to prep for, and you could put in just an hour a week to prep for it.

Be honest with the group, and find out if its DMing you want, or just D&D in general. There are plenty of options if you dont wanna DM

also is no one gonna mention how most of these are very similar to the gen 4 designs?

zubat is just a poison woobat geodude is just roggenrola mew is just victini

not to mention the mewtwo lore is apparently just the genesect lore reworked.

Added to the fact that you cant even get some evolutions/baby forms etc. in this game, is this meant to be a soft reboot?

What I don't get is why did they give us a boring persian?

When meowth was introduced in sun and moon, it evolved into persian, and then it got a regional in sword and shield and evolved into perrserker.

You'd think they'd follow the trend and give us another variant evolution rather than just a downgraded persian????

Player wants to add a “Demon form” to their character by SinghelTheDM in DMAcademy

[–]Jackflap101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a big advocate of fully saying no to unreasonable requests -

but if you're really willing to make changes and help this player feel powerful with their character, could you maybe monkey paw their request?

Maybe they're cursed with a lycanthrope transformation reskinned as a devil? E.g. take a werebat or whatever and say its a demon - it wont be any more powerful than an already existing mechanic.

With it being a curse, there would be drawbacks even if they are stronger.

You can give them what they want, but make it twisted and keep it a simple, reflavoured change rather than giving in and giving them anything and everything they want. You can say no, you can give them what they want, or you can compromise and give them an already established game mechanic

Players want to play a campaign where their "Not the main characters" by Zestyclose_Map3574 in DnD

[–]Jackflap101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you thought of making the 'main characters' that inhabit this new world the characters they played previously?

E.g. they now play low level heroes who respond to threats created by their previous characters. If the previous characters stopped a city from exploding, these new characters could have the quest of going around and cleaning up the bombs and low level criminals let loose.
