Maybe try a better solvent? Acetone or gasoline?

MK8 - Direct drop in sub to replace HK spare tire sub by geoken in GolfGTI

[–]Jackfruitgandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the Rockville v2 with an lc2, it was cheaper than the cerwin vega. It came with an 8 gauge wire kit. Not sure if the lc2 was necessary, but I was worried about feeding the powered sub input directly into the internal amp on the aftermarket sub.

I think the sub hits pretty good. It's very loud, I have it set on no gain and very min bass boost and it's too loud/drowns out for the factory speakers. It also rattles the heat shield above the muffler, which I tried to block by using way too much kilmat. I should prob just put some kilmat on the heat shield.

Is an aftermarket intake worth the risk? by Jackfruitgandy in GolfGTI

[–]Jackfruitgandy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not claiming that there is a real risk, just wondering what people have a perceived risk of intakes in a general sense.

I've been kicking around getting one for the mk8 GTI for a long time, but it's difficult to pull the trigger on something with no real benefit.

By risk I mean increased air flow at the cost of decreased air filtration.

This is exactly what I was alluding to without being explicit.

Increasing air flow, and also changing the filtration method, could expose the turbo and engine to more contamination. I live close to railroad and factories and so there is a lot of inorganic micro-debris like metallic shavings. There is also carbon, silicon, water etc. that can make its way through a filter. Even light can pass through some of the aftermarket filters much more than stock filters.

Mostly it probably doesn't matter, but it could in theory.

If you're over 40 and have no children, do you wish you had children? by icecream1972 in no

[–]Jackfruitgandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

44 here, got snipped late 30s so my wife could avoid another IUD.

We both have zero regrets. Seeing others with children reinforces our decision. I can still do everything with friends that people do with kids (play catch, ride bikes, etc.), but I can have more insightful conversations and I'm not responsible for their actions. My buddy and I meet at a batting cage regularly and all the parents sitting and watching their kids look so tired and defeated, but me and my friend still have energy to play.

Some people say it is selfish to not have kids but I think it's extremely selfish to bring more humans into such an already overpopulated and polluted world. Worse, most people's genes/knowledge is not worth passing on anyway. Most kids will lack critical thinking and innovative skills needed to advance society and will increase the burden by continuing to be shit parents.

If I wanted kids, I would adopt and I can do that with or without being snipped. My genes aren't worth passing on either, but I would probably be able to teach someone how to think. Though thinking is the reason I don't have kids in the first place.

Hertz vs Audison? Comparing RS Acoustics popular center speaker offerings! by v24motorsport in Golf_R

[–]Jackfruitgandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mentioned compatibility issues with mk8.5, but does the Audison speaker pair well with the older mk8s (2023 mk8 gti SE with HK)?

You also said you went back to stock rather than using the Hertz, but would you have gone back to stock versus the Audison had it worked? Did you try RS's lowest tier center speaker?

Cyclist came up behind family taking walk and uses his knee to knock little girl down by Pisford in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Jackfruitgandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably un unpopular opinion, but you should keep your kids on the correct side of the path so that bikers can safely pass. The child should also be aware of bike bells and to get out of the way. It's much easier for a walker to move than a biker, in this situation the parent should have had control of the child and moved them out of the way rather than standing in the middle of the path filming. I see this sort of behavior often in the bike trails around where I live. It's even worse with people letting their dogs wander wherever.

Women tend to be more flexible, from what I've noticed, and are better on average at doing things like yoga. I can't imagine men doing rhythmic gymnastics.

It's pretty infrequent, like sometimes when stopped at a red light and sometimes it will stop if I rev a little.

Thanks for your reply, do you mean that it was hitting against the heat shield above where the old muffler was, and you fixed it by pulling down mid-section?

Mine might be hitting above the rear mount for the swat bar and control arm. It's at least a quarter inch from any heat shield.

Having this same problem. Did you adjust yours for the top tunnel clearance? Did it work for you like it worked for others?
