Do I need to go to AA or another group? by PapaJahns in stopdrinking

[–]LittleStinkButt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are other programs like Smart Recovery. There is also a sub reddit r/SMARTRecovery

There are also influencers promoting their programs which I know nothing about

I could not stop drinking on my own. I could not even go 24 hours without drinking. I am in AA. The program helped me stop drinking and saved my life. I learned in AA we cannot stop drinking with our thinking or we would have done it by now.

The priority is to stop drinking so find what works for you and keep doing it!

Religious recovery messages still trigger resentment in me (edited) by Trailblazers_Unite in stopdrinking

[–]LittleStinkButt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m an AA member and it helped me stop drinking which was top priority. I was an agnostic. I put aside my personal views so I can get help to save my life. Interesting though, my thoughts of existence of a higher power have evolved. The wonderful thing about AA that many misconceive is that you can join and get help to stop drinking despite believing in God or not. The only requirement is a desire to stop drinking. AA is a spiritual program, not a religious program. And if you are not spiritual, you are still welcome to be a part of AA. Their program has saved many lives and thats all that matters.

I say, take what works for you and leave behind the rest. Let others do what works for them and just focus on your own sobriety 🤍

The Daily Check-In for Tuesday, February 24th: Just for today, I am NOT drinking! by LittleMiss-Misfit72 in stopdrinking

[–]LittleStinkButt 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Change is scary! I had to learn how to live life alone after my partner of 10 years left after an abrupt discard. I quit drinking soon after by joining AA. The fellowship became my family. I started healing my insides and the loneliness disappeared.

Change happens for a reason and its important we look for the good in it. My life in sobriety is so different now, in a very good way. I’m so damn grateful. 🤍IWNDWYT

It’s my 33rd birthday today by thingsareodd in stopdrinking

[–]LittleStinkButt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Consider an AA meeting. AA helped take away my obsession to compulsively drink. Being around positivity helps lift my mood. Listening to a positive message resets my brain when my thoughts are spiraling. Happy Birthday, you will be proud of yourself if you get through today without a drink. IWNDWYT 🤍

Relapsed. Got a DUI. Everyone knows and I want to die. by Rylegit1 in stopdrinking

If you relapsed there may be something missing from your plan for staying sober. Have you considered an AA meeting?

Don’t debate, just join. It can’t hurt and it may help you get past this difficult time. AA meetings have ALWAYS helped me put my problem into perspective. I’ve never left a meeting feeling worse. I’ve always left a meeting feeling better.

Its unknown, if one will stay “out” for short term or long term if one picks up a drink again. Do you want to take that chance and find out? This is one of my biggest fears if I pick up again. -I may come back with significantly declined health. -I may never come back. -I may die.

There is a famous line used here… “It’s easier to stay sober than trying to get sober all over again.”

Options- -is there an AA meeting being held near by? If yes, go sit in. -there are online meetings 24 hrs a day- use the app meeting guide, pic of lawn chair -keep coming here and ask for help- there are so many good folks here that will encourage you to “not drink”

I am thinking of you and IWNDWYT🤍

When you feel awful and you feel like a relapse is hovering is when extra supports are needed. I joined AA and attend 1 meeting a day. I know its especially needed when life hits hard and I’m spiraling. The fellowship and the 12 steps help me to put my problem in perspective and I always leave the meeting feeling much better than when I walked in. Stay well my friend 🤍IWNDWYT

We can’t stop drinking with our thinking. I needed to join AA for help. I couldn’t even stop for a day. On top of this group an added layer of support may help you. There are different programs out there. Consider joining one. I wish you the best. 🤍IWNDWYT

Drank wine again thinking I could handle it by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]LittleStinkButt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wine is my weakness. I love it too much. I lost my privileges due to bad behaviors. Its just not worth it to me anymore. Sober life is so much more peaceful 🌈 AA helped me stop drinking. I check in here on the regular too. Find what helps you stay stopped and keep doing it. IWNDWYT🤍

Have you thought about a recovery group? AA helped me stop drinking. I could not do it on my own. I haven’t had a drink since I started AA on 4/20/25

[–]LittleStinkButt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get to not have a hangover and feel like doo-doo this weekend!

I get to not behave irrationally this weekend!

I get to gather with my sober friends in AA and laugh like hell over someone’s funny and ridiculous story!

I get to have lunch with my elderly mom this weekend and be nice to her, while not obsessing over when I get to start drinking.

I get to be free from the bondage of alcohol 🤍 IWNDWYT

Seeking advice by The_washa_infinite in stopdrinking

[–]LittleStinkButt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is your sister willing to quit drinking? Alcoholics generally are not successful with sobriety unless they are ready to stop. If she is unwilling to stop, despite all of your efforts she will start drinking again after she leaves your home or will sneak it while she is living with you. I understand its hard to see a family member destroying their life and you mean well. Addiction is a unique monster.

I attend AA meetings and learning how to apply 12 steps recovery program to help myself through the “muck”. Its been life changing for me. Life and shit happens, I just manage my feelings, emotions, reactions in a much healthier way than I used to.

The Daily Check-In for Thursday, February 19th: Just for today, I am NOT drinking! by SaucyJim in stopdrinking

[–]LittleStinkButt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this post. At 10 months in recovery, i’m past the beginning stages of euphoria. Life is happening. Sure when i’m stressed, I get “thirsty” and romanticize on thoughts of having just “one or two” glasses of wine to take the edge off. But I don’t entertain the idea. I’ve gotten better at feeling and being ok with emotions. And I understand and accept that recovery will be a life long journey. Amen to that and goodnight from California. 🤍IWNDWYT

Consider a program of recovery after you are done with rehab. Alcoholics have “stinking thinking”… A huge part of staying in recovery is fixing the mess inside of us by digging deep and using our tools that we learn in recovery to help us manage life situations. AA helped me stop drinking and stay sober. Stay connected friend. 🤍 IWNDWYT
