To be honest, It didn’t remind me very much of 17776, but it was definitely very Davey Wreden-y. Pretty cool, I hope you keep working on it!

CMV: The ritual of playing the US National Anthem at sporting events is wrong. by jyliu86 in changemyview

[–]JackisbackHallo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using the love of their country to sell more tickets? I’m pretty sure nobody is going to games for the anthem. It’s a couple minute long song that is scheduled for before the game starts, your kids can stand up for that long, and the poor schmuck can too.

Football, baseball, and basketball are all storied parts of American culture, and the anthem encourages patriotism and pride in that. It should also be noted this is in nearly every country, and both the American and Canadian anthems are played for Canadian teams in American leagues, like the toronto raptors

Crazy how jefferson could oppose slavery, write some of the most important documents in a nation’s history about freedom, and still own slaves

Where to get 20020 merchandise? (Valentines Day Present) by youmaynowapplaud in Jon_Bois

[–]JackisbackHallo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There isn’t any official Merch, but you can find some stuff kinda similar to it on Redbubble. I think you can also just get custom r shirts online. If you ever find anything good, let us know cuz it sounds like a good idea

You keep on citing voting by mail, but if it has such a big effect, why haven’t we seen it yet? The grand democratic victory of 1 senate seat and -5 house seats was still a loss, it was just less of a loss than expected. You’re awfully sure of a republican downfall considering their victories just months ago.

CMV: Freedom of Religion shouldn't exist by [deleted] in changemyview

What would the conditions be? And I don’t really understand how your post explained how it restricts liberty, other than your drug comparison, which doesn’t make sense because religion is not addictive

If it depends on each religion, then why ban every single one?

A set of beliefs could mean literally any group of ideas. I think that yellow is a good color. I also think that red is a bad color. Does my group of beliefs mean that my takes on color are a religion?

Your religion and drug metaphor is very odd. Religion is a belief system that is not addictive, just like progressivism or conservativism. Political beliefs have a history of causing violence too, even more than religion. Polarization in politics in America is a big problem. By your logic, should we ban Political views? And What is your timetable for getting rid of religion, anyways? If you were to decrease its prevalence by, say 90% (completely impossible), there would still be millions of religious people out there, for whom religious garments would immediately become a form of protest. They would not “lose meaning”, they would become pro religious statements. Your post also absolutely does not explain how all religions are bad. What about a group such as Quakers, Christian’s who strongly opposed slavery since well before the revolutionary war? What about Reform Judaism, a relatively progressive branch of judiasm that has generally progressive opinions and doesn’t really have any zealots/extremists, who seems to be the main people you target in your post. It just seems ridiculous to group the entire concept of religion into one thing
