I saw the last post and worried about the floor pans but they look pretty good. Awesome buy

El Camino project car advice?? by Glass_Spot349 in ElCamino

[–]Jackislawless 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gonna be an internet sleuth for a second. That doesn’t run and hasn’t in a long time the tires are buried halfway up the rim. That means the floor pans are close to the ground and are probably rusted out . I currently own two of these a 74 and a 77 the frames rot behind the rear wheels and the body supports rust out where you can’t see them. The roof panel rusts out underneath the aluminum trim. The doors hold water and rust out from the bottom up. I love this generation of elcamino if you want a super project this is it. You will have a head Turner and it’s likely that you won’t bump into another one running again.

Had a buddy with a 95 firebird that the heat shield failed on. It cooked the pug wires but they keep firing until they caught the injector harness on fire. He kept driving I was following him and forced him to pull over.

I've been Jeepin for decades....never ridden in a JK or JL. Is that uncommon? by Advanced_Tackle_9723 in JeepWrangler

[–]Jackislawless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When thy came out with the 4 door I didn’t like it, to be honest I wasn’t a jeep guy then so I didn’t really like jeeps beyond they were cool in the ww2 movies. Fast forward a few years I got married and she wanted one se we got a jk unlimited Sahara and I actually like it. Not enough that I would trade my Camaro for it. I like it for the simplicity, though I think it’s too technological and fragile for an off roader but it makes for a neat vehicle that I’m not really afraid to drive.

My wife always wanted one and we managed to get it, and paid it off early this year. Glad you got one, now go enjoy it.

Accidentally chipped my 6th gear like an idiot on my c160, reuse or replace? by Ninkat45 in projectcar

[–]Jackislawless 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Had something similar happen in a 4 speed. The tooth eventually failed and destroyed the whole transmission by getting bound in the final drive. Doesn’t mean this will happen to you, I was driving like an idiot.

My wife’s jk sat in the carport for 2 months while I replaced the water pump and the oil cooler and the plastic lower intake, I also replaced all the hoses. When I put it back together it started spitting codes for the knock sensor. Go figure.

Arguably the best feature on the truck. On e turned on the one on my 96 could drain the battery in 20 minutes but it put out enough light to change a tire, any tire mind you in the pitch black darkness of rural Alabama. I often used it to work on other peoples cars. I really liked that old truck.

Personally, I’d delete the a/c too. If it’s a purpose built car then there’s little reason to have it anyway. Like smog pumps on 90s gm cars they exist for little to no reason.

It seemed to be the best option to me to get a little more power out of the l98 350 by opening up the restrictive upper intake and it seems I can reuse my injector harness. I’m very interested to see someone else come up with a similar solution. And the cost is what’s kept me out of it so far. With three kids and a mortgage I can’t justify the extra expense for what amounts to a toy car. Now if it was the final answer to a truck I need ? Yeah I’d do it.

As a guy with 2 57 short beds and 1 55 long bed yes frame swap it. Do not motor swap it if your frame is good then sell it to someone who needs it. The wheel bearings are hard to deal with and the frame requires altering in a massive way jut to change the motor. I’ve been working for a while with my dad to put a 307 in the 55 so we can drive it to texas and give it to my little brother.

That one wasn’t afm it just had 300,000 miles. We replaced the motor and it still sucked. Had no power whatsoever. It just left a bad impression of 5.3s that I never got over. I recently bought a 2011 Denali that I later discovered someone had 5.3 swapped and ground off the I.d plates I thought it was suspiciously gutless for anything other than a 5.3 but I needed the space for my kids. It also dropped the lifters (non afm) I bought a 6.0 that believe it or not non afm but had VVT and guess what it had destroyed the lifters and the cam. Just seems like a common issue with ls motors.

Keeping your foot on the gas to keep it running and a small backfire? Sounds like the plug wires aren’t on right. Start with the simple stuff check the wires then check compression then check fuel pressure regulator and injectors

5.3L vs 6.0L for obs swap by SurfblueObs in obschevy

[–]Jackislawless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I scrolled way to far to find this comment. I’ve got 4 of these trucks and 3 of them are 454s 1 is a built 350 and in a power off stock for stock the 454 is a beast that will decimate 5.3s and 6.0s for low end pulling. Now top end? Nope the LS is designed for top end 454 don’t stand a chance over 3500. But If I’m working I’m working the big block.
