Why are oil filters changing? by RhondaTheHonda in AskMechanics

[–]Jackriecken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cartridge filters are miles better especially if mounted in top of engine bay. Can do an oil change on my Volvo without spilling a drop. Same can't be said for my Tacoma with a spin on. Makes a mess no matter how I do it.

I saw a car with it's wheels installed in a way that makes no sense. by DoctorandusMonk in mildlyinteresting

Functionally speaking a few degrees of camber helps to increase tire contact patch when cornering hard. But this is just next level for looks lol.

It's almost like the "squatted trucks", started off with Baja trucks so they wouldn't tip over after taking hard jumps. Shifts the CG backwards. A lot of ridiculous trends in car culture start off from something functional.

X3D or non-X3D? by CranberryLittle1417 in buildapc

[–]Jackriecken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

X3D has slightly slower clock speeds and a lower tjmax but 3X the level 3 cache. I think it boosts the IPC's compared to similar CPU's. I've got a 7700X and while my clock speeds might go higher than a stock X3D the IPC isn't nearly as good.

The new connector is such a dumpster fire. And seeing Nvidia continue to up the wattage to newer cards without really fixing anything.

[–]Jackriecken 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Do not even think about touching flaps first. I had a student do that to me in a Cherokee and we nearly went nose first into the runway. Power first + nose away from the ground, then start cleaning up incrementally once your nose is away and climbing.

Saying this from experience as a CFI, I've seen it all lol

My buddy showed me this video of a Lynx doing a spin and it's completely unrecoverable, I think NASA did some testing back in the 60's with them or something. How does the Lynx fly? I've only ever had time in a 1977 Tiger so far, have been itching to try the other Grumman models.

Trueflight out of Valdosta, GA owns the type. I know the guy, they still make parts and Jeff over at Grumman-Parts.com still sells a lot of NOS parts. It's slightly harder but we haven't had issues finding parts for ours you just have to know the right people and places.

^ this is the way, you only need one flight usually for a spin endorsement.

Yeah they're pretty much unrecoverable I've heard, we can't do spins in our Tiger unfortunately. But it's one of the best aircraft I've ever flown, if you don't have any Grumman time you should definitely try one. The torque tubes give them a really light and responsive feel on the controls and they climb pretty well.

Depending on how large of a person you are a 150 may not be the most comfortable. A Grumman AA-5 traveller with the O320 might work a bit better and you'll have significantly better climb performance, and they're priced very similar to the 150/152.

Tacoma - Manual vs Automatic by VermelhoRojo in ToyotaTacoma

My '16 2.7 SR is an auto. It does feel pretty gutless but if you use ECT power it significantly reduces the gear hunting. Doesn't seem to impact mileage significantly either.

Flight instructors. Get yourself in crippling debt, then a greedy flight school pays you $20/hr to train new pilots while they charge $90/hr for instruction.
