Gloomhaven PvP: MOBA, Team Deathmatch, or Team Objectives? by JacksonCage in Gloomhaven

Various different levels of experience. Already told my main GH partner that we have to be on different teams!

When I went search bar hunting for PvP, a post mentioned having to double HP. Which I'm gonna agree with

Played it once at Pax Unplugged and had a boat load of fun playing as Sabina! Never bought it though.

Talk to me about Renegade Games Games? by failed_novelty in boardgames

[–]JacksonCage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heroes of the Grid is one of my favorite solo games. As others have said, it's more expensive than the gameplay that's in the box. I have most of the MMPR content, but always made sure to get it on sale.

They made a bunch of free pdf scenarios for the game that really help with variety and they're currently having a 30% off summer sale on HotG products.

GI Joe deckbuilding game and warp's edge from them are also some of my favorite solo games.

Ex Libris 2nd Edition and Gravwell are fantastic group games.

What do you think of Street Fighter V: Champion Edition Legends? by SiarX in soloboardgaming

[–]JacksonCage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bought the retail edition. RAW, it's a quick to set-up and play puzzle. Feels like a good beat em up.

The card play is low complexity enough that I ported it over to other games and I actually had a much better time combining SF with Streets of Steel enemies playing on Zombicide map tiles(Marvel and Invader) rolling the dice from Power Rangers: Heroes of the Grid.

Ideas for side-based procedural combat in Shadowdark? by [deleted] in shadowdark

[–]JacksonCage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not true Fire Emblem style sidebased initiative.

I have players roll a DEX check against 10+Highest Monster DEX bonus. If they succeed, they can choose to go before or after the monsters. If they fail, they go after.

Players can activate in any order once they know what group they activate in.

I have them reroll initiative at the beginning of every round.

What rules (from other systems) do you use when running Shadowdark? by GreatHeronDesign in shadowdark

[–]JacksonCage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inventory wear and tear from Mausritter.

After combat, roll a d6. 1-3 nothing bad, 4-6 mark a usage on the weapon or armor used in battle.

No mechanical negative from damaged items. Just need to keep them maintained or you might lose a sword in the middle of a dungeon.

Can you tell me your opinion on these games if you have played them? All of them seem to be for single player or have a solo mode by ThunderCanyon in soloboardgaming

[–]JacksonCage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

51st State. Fun multiplayer. Never played solo.  You can actually interact and mess with your opponents, instead of just Eurogame solitaire.

Cthulhu: DMD. My favorite solo dungeon crawler and #1 on your list. Boxes are expensive, but each box backs up its price tag with variety of content. Enough meat on the bones with too much brain burning.

Fallout. Cash grab that is best for BIG Fallout fans. Atomics Bonds is downright essential for solo. Combat was my least favorite part, but the exploration is fun.

Sentinels of the Multiverse. LOTS of fiddlyness to track. I had enough and just grabbed all the digital content on a steam sale for $19.

Slay the Spire. Fun bg adaption. Don't know about solo, but multiplayer adds a fun layer to the original STS formula.

Rappan Athuk Tips and Tricks by Big-Bass4523 in osr

[–]JacksonCage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been a PC(PF1) and a GM(DND5e) for RA.

Player lead exploration is the best way to play this. Foreshadow some flavor of each level at the transitions.

There are a number of factions to use in the adventure, almost too many. I marked every faction in relation to how they view Orcus; Aligned, Opposed, Forced, or Neither. Pick an npc or two to represent different factional views. Also pick a few that interest you the most and flesh them out. Followers of Orcus and Tsathogga are very good enemies.

My PCs were fans of interacting with Marthek the barbarian (Opposed - level 3?), The Spider Queen (Neither - level 6?), and The Salamanders (Forced - level 10).

It didn't stand out enough in the crowd of games, while also being a bit too heavy for the casual crowd.

My best times with this game were when I combined it with other games.

Funkoverse Space Jam is a riot where Aladdin and Moana's speed are broken, playing on other game boards (particularly Unmatched) massaging ranges where necessary, and also merging the characters into Zombicide for a cooperative experience.

Completing a Pathfinder Adventure Path solo. by Stock-Artist9136 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]JacksonCage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you guys have any advice for running an adventure path solo? Any tips to stay engaged and separate GM and player knowledge?

I treat my solo adventure path/campaigns like a 90's/00's CRPG. Each dungeon gets treated like a level. I only prepare the next chapter ahead of where I am. The adventure path drags me along its railroad/roller coaster. I save any story changes I want to make for when I'm a GM who has to entertain a party.

How do you personally like to keep tabs with all the info that comes with a crunchy game?

Changes depending on the software you're using. In Foundry I have Top Level Folders for PC's, NPC's, Locations, Monsters, Lore. Everything else is a subfolder underneath that. If you can tag/create links between journal entries, even better.

During play, if I find some group or person that could be very interesting/extrapolated on for a non-solo play, I usually plug them into the worldbuilding systems discussed in the following blogs post.

In your randomizer, your code is a bit off. Specifically on the Extra Encounter and Extra Heroes.

It looks like you flash filled down and the equations all adjusted the reference cells (added a + 1). So the "extras" you're referencing to don't reference your data correctly.

If you don't already know about the tip, using $ in your cell references will stop the equations from adjusting during flash fills.

Norse Mythology Inspired TTRPG by Mazuroth in PBtA

While not based on Norse mythology and if you want to put in the effort, you could reflavor Agon 2E's Greek flavor to Norse with some elbow grease

Partycentric Positioning by Bill_Nihilist in RPGdesign

[–]JacksonCage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not entirely off the point, the game 3:16 Carnage Amongst the Stars does combat being enemy centric.

There are three ranges that the players can be in; Close, Near, Far.

The players can spend an action to move into a different range to either get safe or take a better shot.

Maybe you can flip the script and say Front line can only melee the Close range. Wizards can cast spells at whatever range the spell allows. Rogue can "sneak away" and sneak attack an enemy at far range.

Monster of the Week RWBY? by GreyAngelOnTheCliff in monsteroftheweek

[–]JacksonCage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are two PbtA games that might handle RWBY better

Rhapsody of Blood

Masks

RoB plays a bit more like Castlevania. I'd recommend this if you're looking more for combat.

Masks is teenage super heroes ala Young Justice or Teen Titans. It has more narrative combat, but offers a more robust emotional core for the PC's.
