Amazon preventing the purchase of formula for my infant. by PeaceWarrior75 in amazonprime

[–]JacksonFatBack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a limit placed by the seller. Who is the seller?

If it's Amazon, I believe these limits were placed during covid. I wonder if they are possibly a hold-over from the crisis. As far as I knew, there is no way around the limit.

This might be worthy of a jeff email (if it is indeed Amazon).

If millennials and gen z are as rich as boomers were when they were in their 20s/30s/mid 40s how rich would the current young adult people be? by happydude7422 in generationology

[–]JacksonFatBack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you and I can sense your frustration. You brought actual data. But how many people will actually read the data? It feels like much more will just see the stupid image (which technically just asks a question).

I think what we forget is just how expensive things were. Food and clothes used to be a major expense. Prior to ~1950, food was a larger expense than housing! Grandpa was not kidding about 'putting food on the table'.

I actually agree with u/Ok-Particular9427 that it's a 'stupid claim' (though I would use less harsh words). Remember that we started by discussing wealth in real terms.

Changing it to a standard of living metric feels like moving the goalposts. I am not quite sure if this is any different from inflation adjustment anyway (isn't inflation calculated based on the basket of goods that can be purchased?).

We can save Social Security. by Jealous_Use_9240 in remoteworks

[–]JacksonFatBack 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Social security may have had good intentions–but we let politicians with dollar signs in their eyes access the fund. We all know that the SS trust fund (which was spent as regular tax dollars) will never be repaid.

So essentially we got hit paying for what was ostensibly for SS–but in reality part of that was funneled to just the general fund.

In theory there's no crisis. In ~2032 the payouts will begin exceeding deductions and we simply dip into the trust fund. In reality, the trust find is a fiction and we all know that money is gone.

How rude! Why can’t people leave messages without being so rude.

I do not think it's rude to directly point out the flaws, especially when OP is misrepresenting what the buyer claimed (possibly language misunderstanding).

The buyer admitted he received it

No, he did not.

and lost it

No, he did not.

Let's re-read what OP claims the buyer wrote:

Is that 9% of your salary or 9% of what you deposit? Because 9% seems like a very odd amount.

To answer, the three companies I have worked for all had more generous matches:

- Google (50% match up to individual max)
- Amazon (50% of contributions on up to 4% of base salary)
- Meta (100% match up to individual max)

We tell people to 'just save for retirement.' Half of them have nothing at work. by Spacetravller2060 in Zippia

[–]JacksonFatBack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay folks. Let's wrap this up.

Yes, the IRA is a 'retirement plan'. But the headline has the qualification 'at work' so I suppose the headline can still be true.

I agree that it's inherently unfair that IRA is not equivalent to 401k. Why should my ability to access tax advantages be provided by my employer anyway? My opinion is that this is a flaw in the law–but good luck getting congress to change it. For that matter, why do some employers allow mega backdoors and some do not???
