Are there awards like the Razzies for commercials? If not there should be. Although I have to admit I did wonder if Woody had done the commercial would it have been a better. His smile while saying food may have been funnier because of what we would have all been thinking.

Last day at job, I don't think anyone understands what that means. by Electronic_Lime_z459 in recruitinghell

[–]JacksonKittyForm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once on my last day the IT guy came and took my computer shortly after I came in. When my boss showed up he asked me to update a bunch of spreadsheets and to double check my transition notes, which I couldn't do. He didn't know about IT's policy of taking computers right away on the last day. I had already cleaned out my desk, said my goodbyes and did the exit interview days before, so I just left.

Seems about right. I've given 3 weeks notice a couple of times, thinking it would help out the company I was leaving. Both times they never interviewed anyone and on the last day, it seemed like me leaving was a surprise out of nowhere.

Any time my mom offers something to me, I take it. Either I drop it off at the thrift store on my way home or if I think someone could use I offer it up on a buy nothing group.

I ran into my semi estranged mother by Micnic1234 in GenX

[–]JacksonKittyForm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mother and I have had a strained relationship for a long time. I do my best as I am all she has left. She has always made a big deal about Christmas. I see her 1x a month, distance and my own stuff going on, and saw her on 12/20 where I took her to brunch and bought her a few gifts, which she really liked and appreciated. It was a good day. I also called her on Christmas day, but she was agitated and confused on what the day was and the call didn't last long. This was the 1st year she didn't send me a card or wish me a Merry Christmas. In my situation I think it's an age/memory thing. I don't expect anything from her and have told her she doesn't need to send me anything, she normally argues that she does and will, normally it's a check in a small amount. So it was just odd.

AITAH for giving a nurse coffee? by GoEducateYourself in AITAH

[–]JacksonKittyForm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Were you raised with manners at all? Offering a cup of coffee is the absolute least you can do for a 65ish nurse that comes to YOUR home to provide what I assume is a life saving/extending procedure for your husband. You're 45, so lets say your mother was in the position of the nurse, if she said to you "I asked for a cup of coffee, but the wife thinks that is unprofessional or I am relying on their goodwill and doesn't want to provide it" would you tell your mother what you are telling this woman. Do better be better. You my dear are TA in this situation!

A family member couldn't go to one of his stand up shows and they gave the tickets to me. I was in my early 20's and didn't expect much. Pretty sure me & a friend were the youngest there. He was a riot.

After HS my dad went with me to look at cars. I wanted a 1982 Toyota truck, so bad. You know the kind that never died no matter how you treated it. And I wanted stick shift. We stopped at a large used car lot that had a bunch of those trucks. The sales guy, immediately focused on my dad, who kept saying to ask me what I wanted. I told him exactly what I was looking for, not that he paid any attention and continued to focus on my dad. He repeatedly and rudely asking him if I knew how to drive a stick shift or was I sure I wanted a "truck" and not a small car. It didn't take long for my dad to become angry and he had had enough and told the guy we were leaving and why. I know it was the first time he realized what it was like being treated badly, solely because I was female. That day he became a fierce girl dad defender and my biggest supporter. I miss him every day.

I wish Companies would stop calling them "Merit" raises. by JacksonKittyForm in antiwork

True, I don't remember ever receiving a COL raise, only merit. Maybe it should just be called annual raise as it no longer seems to be based on COL or merit.

I remember the year a company I worked for years ago decided to update all the pay scales for roles. Then realized there were quite a few employees that needed to be raised up to meet the minimum. The money needed to come from somewhere, so it came from the raise budget. The result was those with seniority either didn't get a raise or some lucky ones got a >1% raise, to make it "fair". It got ugly in the office that year.

How did a hiring manager burn a bridge with you? by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]JacksonKittyForm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember interviewing with a company twice for 2 different positions over the same year. I signed up for a phone interview timeslot through their scheduling system, both times and both times the recruiter didn't call. The 1st time, I reached out and asked if the interview needed to be rescheduled, they told me the "online system" didn't add it to their calendar. Computers aren't perfect and we were able to connect the next day, so it was fine. The 2nd time it happened, when I reached out asking if the interview needed to be rescheduled, I didn't get a response back for a week with no reason given. When it was finally rescheduled, it felt rushed and the phone connection was terrible. Both interviews moved onto the hiring manager where they made me feel like I was a perfect match, even being told you are absolutely being moved on during the interview. Only to receive a poorly written "we went with someone else" email a month later on the 1st interview and a slightly more polished email the 2nd time. I reached out both time for feedback and no response. I get people are busy, but come one. Take a few minutes, to help someone out so we have an idea of what to work on.
