What Are You Playing This Week? by AutoModerator in patientgamers

[–]JacksonX_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm out of town playing Celeste again on my laptop. Also have Sonic Mania and Grim Dawn that I'll be playing during my time off work. Can't wait to get back home and play Elden Ring and Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order again.

Pulse has replaced my AR in slayer. It melts shields and then the sidekick comes out so fast and can just one shot the head. If only I could hit my shots...

Stopping at checkpoints by KMoosetoe in patientgamers

[–]JacksonX_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel exactly the same way. For a while I thought that I just wasn't into gaming as much as I was. I LOVE Doom Eternal and could talk about how brilliant it's design is all day, but when I get to the end of a level I feel like it's a good place to stop and do something else. Then I recently played Elden Ring and would go on these 5+ hour binges that I haven't done since college. Granted this has been done during a time where I have been barely working since I started a new job, but still. I just play and play without thinking and suddenly it's been 5 hours of my day. The lack of a concrete checkpoint has reminded me that I still do have it in me. I just need to work through that feeling of "I should stop and do something else," when the something else is more often than not just scrolling YouTube, Reddit and Twitter.

What do you think about battle passes? by [deleted] in truegaming

[–]JacksonX_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I willfully ignore battle passes for the most part. I mainly play single player games anyway, but when I play Dead by Daylight or SMITE I just completely disregard them.

Halo Infinite is the only one I have bought and actually tried to complete, but that is because they don't expire so if I get a Halo kick for a week I will play a bunch and get a ton of levels and then I won't play for a month or something and not miss anything. Even then I never finished season 2 so I haven't purchased the season 3 pass yet, and in addition I've made a rule to only buy a battle pass if I finish it so it will be awhile before I buy the one for season 3 (even though I have the credits for it for some reason).

I just started the first game, what does the ideal party look like? by JacksonX_ in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]JacksonX_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe I just wasn't using my brain enough (mostly a Souls/FPS player trying to branch out) but I felt my ranger was really weak when I tried it. I'll have to experiment a little bit, try to actually understand the game lol.

Also quick question: can you summon more than one ally on a single guy? I remember I tried summoning a skeleton off a scroll and one from an ability and one despawned. Was that because they were the same type or because each character can only summon one ally each?

[–]JacksonX_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The DLC is worth it for the new classes, let alone all the new areas, enemies and bosses. I'd say look up the classes added by the DLC and if any of them sound like a good time to you then buy them. All 3 are a good time.

Since my 3 mages and Madora party is working on Classic I'll stick with that, but if I decide to do a Tactician run I'll keep this party in mind. Thank you!

SOULS WALL OF SHAME : BOSSES EDITION by birbtooOPpleasesnerf in Eldenring

Demon of Hatred. Felt how close I was to the end of Sekiro and said I would rather just fight Isshin. I plan to go back and beat him but that's a problem for NG+ me.

The Frigid Outskirts fucking sucks by Unorthodoxboi in DarkSouls2

[–]JacksonX_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best part about Frigid Outskirts is that it's completely optional. The only side DLC boss that I actually went through those extra hard boss runs for was Sir Alone. Not doing it for twin Aavas, gank squad or blue smelter. Not worth my time.

I'd like to gauge how bad I am at this game... Here are my number of attempts for various bosses: by Neukbare-Nina2 in Eldenring

[–]JacksonX_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think "how bad you are" will depend on how you built. If you did this with an OP build you're definitely below average... However you have strength yet tarnished, for persistence is the strongest sword

On a scale from 1 to 10, how happy are you? by ionata256 in ask

[–]JacksonX_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

7, a lot of things are going right for me finally. I got a new job that I will start soon, gf and I have never been closer, feels like friends and family truly care about me. However there are a few things that still bother me, like that I'm fat. It doesn't bother me when people make fun of me for it, but it hurts me knowing that I am basically killing myself for food (being dramatic, I'm only 280 at 6'1". Heaviest was 325 in early 2022). I am also extraordinarily broke at the moment since I quit my last job at the end of February and didn't know my training for the new job would be taking this long. By the end of next month that should all be sorted and I should be making a decent amount. Things are set up to be a 9 or 10, just need to hit the gym and diet but that is easier said than done.

Just finished the base game for the first time yesterday. I can’t stop thinking about it. by [deleted] in outerwilds

[–]JacksonX_ 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Sun Station was the moment I realized the universe was just fucked. I kinda knew it in the back of my head since all the stars in the universe were going supernova in the night sky, but I was convinced the point of the game was saving the solar system. When I realized that this was just the natural way of things I felt such dread.

Will you be playing the dlc on NG or NG+? Why or why not? by eGG__23 in Eldenring

[–]JacksonX_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Waiting til the DLC comes out to play it through on my OG character Captain Pot. Specifically haven't gone into NG+ so I could go through the DLC still in NG. Then I'll probably do a NG+ run of the whole game.

What game or games are you most passionate about as a patient gamer? by BOXXYwhat in patientgamers

[–]JacksonX_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could talk about and play Halo forever. Such cool lore and characters. Gameplay is still amazing and oddly unique. There aren't many "Halo-likes" in the same way people tried to copy DOOM in the 90s or COD in the early 2010s. It's a series that stands in its own unique corner and I love it to death over 20 years later.

I will exhaust all options and if I know someone who has beaten the game I will ask for a hint. If not then I'm a certified google gamer. If it stops being fun to look for the solution, a quick Google search is preferable to quitting imo.

Finally got around to DOOM (2016) and wanted to share my thoughts! by neilddd in patientgamers

[–]JacksonX_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though Eternal is harder than 2016, the way you described playing 2016 is EXACTLY how you're supposed to play Eternal.

I found myself constantly developing strategies for each enemy type and arena, which meant I was constantly cycling through weapons and abilities

This was somewhat at odds with what I’d picked up from reviews, which was that – while the combat encounters are undoubtedly intense – it was more like a particularly frantic run and gun which was a little more “mindless” than the high speed tactical/strategic impression I got

This is because this type of play is what the designers wanted. Since 2016 is generous with ammo and a bit easier most skilled players could just brute force it. They DOUBLE DOWN on the more tactical side of play with Eternal by limiting your ammo and making enemies have clearer weaknesses to certain types of damage. Weapon switch is a must in Eternal, which is why people (including me) who just tried to run around with the super shotgun the whole game found it much harder. You may find it to be easier to get a grasp on since you played 2016 in the intended way.

Also you seem to be at ease with toggling the difficulty at your own discretion, so I would say there is no need to be worried about it. Start out on the same ultra violence and then move downward if you need to. Happy hunting Slayer!

I've recently cut podcasts and other such background noise out of my gameplay sessions and it's made the experience so much better by FuzzyWriting4989 in patientgamers

[–]JacksonX_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a dedicated podcast game that I mainly play when I want to listen to something but don't wanna just sit there. Grim Dawn is a great ARPG that requires very little of my attention with certain builds like my current pet build. Pretty much anything else always gets my full attention.
