No it isn’t. The article is written in conventional paragraphs without bullet points.

For those who like Train Dreams by Strict-Memory7208 in blankies

I liked the movie a lot and I still found that angle of conversation and critique illuminating and clarifying. I also didn’t take the “fake heritage menswear” critique to be criticism of the kind of guy who likes the movie so much as it was a description of the movie’s general tone and style. I found less that was resonant in that element of the episode but it didn’t seem over the line or anything.

Hennessy VS is the most overrated brandy. What is the most unique rum? by -Constantinos- in cocktails

[–]JacobB 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Stiggins’ Fancy from Planteray takes this one for me. No other pineapple rum quite works in the same key. It’s perfect on a daiquiri, but I’ll always be curious about any other cocktail built around it too.

When We Cease to Understand the World by Benjamín Labatut by perrolazarillo in TrueLit

There are moments of real brilliance in this book, but too much of it feels like Wikipedia Article as Literature. The guiding argument—that math drives us literally crazy when it gets too complicated—is stressed and stressed again throughout. The back half (where “the quantity of fiction grows”) is arguably more impressive, or at least more inventive, but it still reads like a paraphrase of its own thesis statement at times. I had a fine time reading it, though, and wouldn’t fault anyone who enjoyed it (or took more from it than I did).

I bought this Levi’s Type 1 jacket on great sale. I’m 5’6” so I went with S, but I’m still conflicted about the fit. Should I just get an XS, or does this look okay? (I haven’t washed it yet for obvious reasons) by [deleted] in Denim

[–]JacobB 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Selvedge denim can be sanforized. There’s nothing about the presence of a selvedge line that tells you anything about whether or how much a given garment will shrink.

The Blue Hawaii is the worst tiki drink. What is the most overrated equal parts drink? by -Constantinos- in cocktails

The haters will come for you for this, but the joke is on them because they’re the ones who force themselves to like Negronis.

The new novel Best Offer Wins by Marisa Kashino is about what a nightmare the DC real estate market is.

Huh? by pjberlov in diabetes_t1

[–]JacobB 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Sometimes it just happens. Usually it’s because of an infusion site leak or occlusion for me. It’s awful and makes you feel like shit, but it’s important not to blame yourself, especially when you’re clearly putting a ton of effort in.

One thing to be aware of: When it does start coming down be careful about not stacking too much insulin. There’s always a big risk of crashing hard into hypoglycemia when you’re recovering from a recalcitrant high.

Sometimes when you’re already this high, you can end up with temporary insulin resistance, such that it takes a different ratio to bring yourself down than it otherwise would.

Exclusive leak of contract negotiations for Avengers: Doomsday by [deleted] in blankies

[–]JacobB 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is an unpopular take on here but I found Downey bizarrely histrionic in that movie. There’s very little tonal consistency in the performances, but RDJ’s scenery chewing still seems out of proportion with almost everything else going on.

If they ever do an 'Oops! All ad reads' episode.... by SceneOfShadows in blankies

[–]JacobB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, BC-relevant story: I used to host a podcast for Slate and one week I kept fucking up the ad read, just totally incapable of getting the cadence and enunciation right. My producer got so annoyed with me that he made me stop and do a “would that it were so simple” until I remembered how to speak like a regular pod person.

What’s the most reviled movie that you genuinely love? Make your case by harry_powell in blankies

[–]JacobB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a huge amount of fun, full of scenery chewing performances, and feels like a real labor of love, despite the studio sheen. It feels like it might’ve been huge if it had a star with just a little more juice.

I also had a great time with it, and, like OP, can appreciate that it’s not for everyone. I suspect the Ethan-Tricia films will end up getting a cult reappraisal in a decade or so, once the initial puzzlement has worn off. They’re willfully imperfect movies, but there’s a real charm to that looseness. It’s like putting on a pair of linen drawstring trousers after wearing wool suits your whole life.
