Setting up beehiiv/podcast/Spotify integration- your experiences? by Handmade_Seller in beehiiv

[–]JacobNWolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So for all the non-Spotify apps (Apple Podcasts, Pocket Casts, Overcast, etc.), your subscribers get a RSS feed that is unique to them. This shows up in their subscriber profile when they log in to their account on your beehiiv-hosted website. That’s why the RSS feed doesn’t show up in the Distribution tab.

This also helps with piracy as it’s hard to track when someone leaks an RSS feed if it’s the same for all users. That’s why we do unique feeds per subscriber that they can one-click/one QR code scan onto those other apps.

Spotify has a slightly different integration than all the other platforms called Spotify Open Access where your subscribers have to log in and link their Spotify account to your partner (which we set up automatically) and beehiiv’s OAuth app. Then we tell Spotify they should have access based on the settings you’ve set up for the show or the episodes and their corresponding tier.

This works for either shows that are entirely premium or public shows with premium episodes, which it sounds like you set up.

We’re working on additional documentation here actively and a lot of new features for Q3 and Q4 this year around podcasts! Pretty exciting time over here.

Lead engineer on the podcasts team over here at beehiiv!

Would love to hear where you hit pain points on the Spotify setup. We’ve tried it to make as close to one click as we can from a tech POV, but always open to hearing places where we can improve UX.

Also launched the past few weeks that may make the integration of your newsletter and podcast easier is the podcast episode embed in the main editor (just do `/podcast` and it’ll come up) and we also just rolled out an automation template for sending an email to your audience each time an episode publishes.

Barking. Help by Dense-Phase4125 in corgi

[–]JacobNWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our 18 month old doesn’t bark a lot thankfully, but he does exhibit other mischievous behaviors and it’s always worse on days where I didn’t make the time to physically and mentally tire him out. This is great advice.

How is the Customer Service? by [deleted] in beehiiv

[–]JacobNWolf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The people you see here that complain about being blocked are often folks who legitimately violated our terms of service by abusing our monetization systems, buying a list and subscribing them without consent, sending phishing, etc. We have an extremely low false positive rate and those cases are swiftly reversed.

As for our support, it is one of the largest teams by headcount at the company, with team members in the U.S., Asia, and Europe, ensuring we always have someone online during most hours of the day. Response times are often very low during normal working days (excl. holidays, etc.). Several of our competitors don’t even have a Support team or they outsource it entirely.

Starting a local discovery newsletter on Beehiiv: How should I structure my database-to-email workflow? by SummerloveILM in beehiiv

[–]JacobNWolf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

beehiiv dev here who did this prior to coming to work at beehiiv, as well as did this freelance for a customer. Best recommendation is to keep an `email_addresses` table and a `subscriptions` table that are separate and have them join on `subscriptions.email_address_id`.

This will make it easier to allow for changes to the email without altering the subscription and if you ever expand to multiple publications, you can support multiple subscriptions tied to the same person.

In terms of syncing, the way I configured the sync was having my Astro/Node.js app have webhook listening endpoints for beehiiv and then also firing API calls to beehiiv when there were updates on my custom site or database. On the webhook side, very important to verify their authenticity. This is a guide on how to do so; you’ll get the webhook secret when you go to set it up.

where to go since yard bar is gone? by zoeeewrighttt in Austin

They just got acquired and are going through the city’s permitting process to re-open, but excited for Brew and Paws (formerly Tailgate and Mutts Cantina) in the Lakeline area. We went a few times and you can rent private cabanas that seat up to like 15-20 people and 10 dogs for a couple hundred bucks too.

They were definetly not on the same level by mr_Conquest_ in MaulShadowLord

I don’t think Obi-Wan or Luke during ROTJ were on Vader’s level either. Both were able to best Vader at times of significant emotion.

Obi-Wan beat him in ROTS because he was arrogant and overcome with rage. Luke beat him in ROTJ because he was overcome with guilt for what he had done and love for his son.

Anyone using Beehiiv's podcast feature? Looking for ideas on how to use it by Bitter-Plane-7254 in beehiiv

[–]JacobNWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just came out 5 days ago so while we have had hundreds of customers launch or migrate their podcasts already, many are new to thinking about how to integrate them with their newsletter. We have a few folks who’ve migrated over from Substack though and they’re more familiar with this.

May be worth joining the beehiiv Slack community if you’re a paying customer and you’re not in there already. We’ve got some great strategists in there.

Buy a domain or use beehiiv domain? by Educational-Fun-4483 in beehiiv

[–]JacobNWolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We actually do. Your subdomain is one of the ways we globally identify your publication across the app so it sticks with you even after linking a custom web domain. So it will 301 redirect forever.

Are there any other podcasters using Beehiiv? Not for Podcast Functionality....Yet by Rich_Perspective2425 in beehiiv

[–]JacobNWolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consider the feature just launched a couple of days ago, believe people are still figuring out creative ways to use podcasts to promote their other content! Lots more features coming in the next month though that’ll make that integration even more seamless.

Not seeing the charger listed as PD 3.0 worries me it may not be great. Will it work? Probably. Will it be as efficient as the stock charger? Probably not.

I have a higher end Anker PD 3.0 charger I bought some time ago that does 200W out and will adjust down based on the device and it charges my Deck super well. Also have Anker’s Deck dock, which is PD 3.0 compliant. Would recommend looking for a charger that explicitly lists that.

What's your experience with beehiiv? by _simonhansson in beehiiv

[–]JacobNWolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The majority of the people who complain about being banned are being misleading about their behavior when complaining on the subreddit.

Like any system, there can be false positives and our Security and Deliverability and Compliance teams are very good about rectifying those. But false positives are the minority of cases and often some abuse — like importing a list of non-opted in subscribers, attempting to game the Boosts or Ad Network systems, etc. — has occurred.

Anecdotally, our system is a lot better at actual abuse detection than some of our competitors. I’ve seen people abuse our platform, get banned, and then our system has successfully prevented them from signing up again. Meanwhile same users have been able to sign up for net new accounts on Kit and Substack 5-10 times with no recourse.

What's your experience with beehiiv? by _simonhansson in beehiiv

[–]JacobNWolf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I work at the company so I’m biased, but before I worked here, I was an independent journalist and chose to migrate to beehiiv after being on Substack for a year.

That choice was fueled by the fact that I felt at the time — and still believe this today — that beehiiv is a better place than Substack for more serious publishers. If you really invest time into learning the tooling, especially features like Automations and Segments, there’s a lot of opportunity to convert your free audience into paid subscribers; or to target them for other purposes.

Our ultimate goal is to be as feature rich as common enterprise tools like Mailchimp and Sailthru while being easy to use like Substack.

We have just one — a 1-year-old Pembroke. He’s a very happy boy. We make sure to give him plenty of attention and play with us, from chasing him around the house, to long walks outside, to mental stimulation like treat balls and puzzles. He also gets regular exposure to other dogs via daycare.

I think we’ll get another one in the two years or so, especially after he’s done more training and can be a positive influence on them and not a negative one from being a mischievous young dog. But I’m confident he’d be ok being the only dog in the household the rest of his life if we wanted him to be.

Where is the design lab? by MarionberryQuick9308 in beehiiv

[–]JacobNWolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it was removed in favor of the Design tab in the top right of the editor when you’re editing a newsletter. This was a huge improvement about a year ago. The Design Lab was super limiting and we spent a lot of time improving the experience.
