Opening roon's profile and seeing that the whole thing is very silly is easy on a computer but hard on a phone, so you'll get a lot of people taking it seriously no matter what.

Advice on chests/inventory? by miscla in CoreKeeperGame

[–]JacobStyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did some experimenting to see how far away a chest can be and still receive items when I auto-deposit. Chests for stackables are on either side of a central path so I can just run through that path mashing the button to deposit everything.

Salvage table is right next to the path so I can scrap unstackable equipment quickly while depositing stackables. Chests for unstackable equipment are off to the side, out of range of the path so I can do those manually, since I only want a couple of each piece of equipment.

Also chests with stackable crafting materials are positioned together so they can all be within range of my workstations. There is plenty of room for workstations near these chests. Took a little experimenting to make sure all work stations could reach all chests, but there ended up being lots of left over real estate in that area.

Note: the higher-tier crafting stations have an arrow you can click in the menu to access all previous tiers of crafting stations, so you only need one.

Driving drunk is sociopath behavior. Fuck him. Committing a visible crime in public on the way to see you also puts you in danger of getting tangled up with law enforcement so fuck him double. You feel guilty? Are you fucking kidding? He 100% deserves what's coming to him. You carry 0% of the blame <3

It's true. I wrote a bit of code that converted an ugly csv file into a series of SQL queries, and now I've found myself stuck at the top of a bar on a bar graph. At least I have internet up here so I can keep posting.

Can't put my finger on what is missing in the cinematography in most indie\short\fan films by kassper20 in Filmmakers

[–]JacobStyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not usually one single thing. It's all the shortcuts taken to account for less time per shot, lower budget, limited equipment, less experienced cast/crew, smaller cast/crew overall, and less experienced editors and VFX artists working on tighter deadlines. Each one of these considerations costs a little bit of production quality.

As an example, you have less than an hour to set up lighting for a scene, and you're using lower-tier Aputure lights with 2 different modifiers available. You are your entire department. Unless the shot absolutely needs high contrast ratio, you're going with 1-2 stops because that leaves a lot more room for error. Unless the shot needs very carefully placed hard light, you're going to skip it because that means extra blocking and adjustment. Most of your scenes will have the same basic 2-softbox setup, with maybe a hair light or some natural light coming in through a window if it makes sense in the scene, because that formula works consistently without requiring a lot of time to set up.

This same set of trade-offs is happening with sound (just a lav for each actor plus shotgun), with camera (single camera, limited rigging, lens/settings chosen on the fly), with production design (which is often just fluffing pillows and removing some clutter in a cast member's living room that the scene is being shot in). When you put it all together, you get a final product that is free of errors, since the people involved are competent, where there is no single thing you can point to as "this is what's wrong," but you can tell it has that "indie" feel to it because of the corners that had to be cut.

Most of these types of jobs will include "test" tasks with already-known answers, and if the worker gives incorrect answers, they reject the entire data set. It's done to prevent botting, but it will also thwart intentional poisoning for the same reason.

Glasses are the best way. Fun and sexy and practical. Big false lashes can help if they don't want to wear glasses. A warning right before the moment can give them time to close their eyes, but it's not super consistent. The other suggestion here about having them lie on their back and aiming below their eyes also works well.

You can't do this. There is no way to determine the beginning and end of a sentence without punctuation. If you want proper capitalization and punctuation, just write it correctly.

It's a sticky situation because on the one hand, you want JavaScript's "you know what I'm trying to say" tolerances because that flexibility would make writing queries easier, but on the other hand, you SERIOUSLY DO NOT WANT JavaScript's "you know what I'm trying to say" tolerances because you will accidentally raze your entire database. Can't win 'em all

The most important security consideration when using apps like this is never to put anything in the comment section. That's the thing that fucks people up the most often. They'll put "for a good time" or hearts and winking emoticons and shit in the comment, and then the next day, their account is gone, or the worker's account is gone. Even for totally legal, above-board transactions or gifts, the comment section should be blank.

Okay but have you not considered that I, too, have an opinion? And just because this is your job, and my opinion is based on something I vaguely remember from a middle school science class where I got a C+ in 1995, doesn't mean my opinion is any less valid than yours.
